Eye up Jim - your welcomed post is valued by the many on here !! Ha ha - it's been more than a few years - so a good first shout.

Beware of the biting sharks on here - who like a first or even a second toe dipper !!

No seriously - "welcome Jim" :D .

Hold some great memories of Shotts.

Welcome Jim!

Cut my teeth in the eighties at Messrs Walls dos (being one of the Fife lot myself) and then of course at Allanton - surely some of the best series of nighters I ever experienced. We met briefly at Guy's birthday bash at Stoke. Hope your doing well and enjoy yirsel' on here! There's a few of us rolling around on soul source!

Mark.

All the best mate hopefully bump into you soon

Shotts Allanton was one special nighter.

But it never seems to generate much discussion on here or elsewhere for that matter, I'm guessing because the scene had around 500 hardcore punters then.

I personally think it had its own atmosphere, a nighter where punters were prepared to travel to.

It's difficult to define what was unique about Shotts, similar progressive playlist to most of the scene at that time. But it was just that, unique.

Although the mob we knock around with are casino, Stafford, Oddfellows, Blackburn etc regulars but I think Shotts was the glue which has led to friendships that have endured decades.

Cheers for that Jim old mate.

Hi Byrney

Yes shotts/Allanton/scotland as it was known to many, did create something that seems to have left a legacy

I suppose just the right time, right people, definitely right music, right venue, right atmosphere, all merged together created something unique as you say

Must admit I am extremely proud of shotts and especially when so many people talk fondly of it

Just wished I had attended as a punter!!

Hi gilly

Really good to hear from you and I hope you are well?

Yes you did DJ for me at Allanton, can't remember the date or year, but I do remember being in the pub beforehand having a few beers with you

Something tells me it may also have been your birthday the night you DJ'd?

I think you did manage to get some people of the arse and onto the floor - in fact there is a video of it somewhere I'm sure

All the best mate and I really hope I bump into you again soon

Remember Alan Walls and Kerso telling me about a phone call I think you received Jim on a Saturday afternoon... Something along the lines of

"hello... Is that Ruff Cut?.. Is Scotland on tonight" :)

Hilarious. Is Scotland on.

This does propose a Descartian philosophical querie, does the country Scotland actually exist if the Allanton nighter is not on :)

See anything of Kerso Jim, he's part authored a book on casual culture in Motherwell called Dressers, excellent read.

I travelled up to Scotland for a lot of the Shotts allnighters, and always enjoyed the nights and a great selection of music.

I have got the Video that was on sale there of the 3rd anniversary, 3rd/4th Nov 1990.

Remember people like Guy Hennigan, Pete Lawson, Rob Marriot and even John Manship travelling up there.

I would hear cheap records like Pretty Baby - The C.O.D's then something rare like The Combinations - I'm Gonna Make You Love Me,

Mandrill - Too Late then Matt Brown Thank You Baby. First heard Bob and Fred up there as well.

I suppose it was all down to a great selection of DJ's and the people who were on the allnighter circut at the time.

Hi solid soul

the DJ policy was really to mix the best of the Scottish collectors and DJ's ( jock, Colin law, Alan walls, Keith Whitson, mark Linton etc.) with the ones from done south who deserved the break, I.e. kitchen, dean, guy, graham Ellis, rob marriot etc. etc.

I did have some of the more obvious popular names early on like Brian Rae etc., and also had the elite like Butch, but the aim was not to have people just playing rare expensive records (which it seems to be now), the target was quality

Therefore you would hear a £5 record next to a £500 record, and to me and the people that enjoyed the scene at that time, this was greatly accepted

Allanton was certainly responsible for bringing great people with the right attitude together at the right time with the right music

All the best

Jim
