Souledtrafford Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Not seen or heard of Manifesto magazine for two or three months. Anyone know what has happened to it? I know it was a bit irregular in the past, but it always seemed to turn up. The latest gap makes you wonder if it has ceased to exist.

I got mine yesterday Issue 137 August/September 2012 I'm in two minds whether to renew my subscription, as they're more often than not, delivered late
Souledtrafford Posted September 25, 2012 Author Posted September 25, 2012 Cheers Alison. I think 136 was the last I had, so 137 should be 'in the post'. Like you, in two minds about renewing, as it is usually running late and 90% of the adverts for soul nights have long past, making the pages a complete waste of space. There is also one or two articles duplicated. It is to be fair a good mag, but needs a good editing before being printed.

My main bug bear, these days, is the lateness that it is delivered, I mean, why the flip do I want to know about an event that I may have attended on the 22nd September (had I known about it) when I'm actually reading the advertisement for it on the 25th!! Grrrr !! Granted, we have Soulsource to help us out with most events, but that's not the point, and I'm an old fashioned girl & still like to see some events in print. If they can start getting them out sooner, then I'll be happy.
Alison H Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 used to be a good read, very much like togetherness it is loaded top heavy with adverts You're right in a way Jim (& out of date adverts at that!) I can look on back on issue 22 from 1999 and enjoy it, yet I'm not sure I'll be able to look back on issue 137 in 13 years time with the same excitement. Could just be a case of me getting older though
Guest nubes Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 I loved it when it first started out...got it from the second issue...when Ian Palmer and Dennis Lee had it...was fun reading reviews etc by soul folk who attended various places..and of course the middle pages picture spread....apart from odd issues here and there...stopped getting in around 10 years ago....no reasons...just stopped.... Delxxxx
Daved Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 It's not been very good for a while. Bad printing, spelling mistakes, too many pages devoted to Australia with long lists of oldies played, etc. I quite like the Soul Jones articles and Fish's page. Soul Sam is also always good entertainment as is Tim Brown.
Pete S Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 used to be a good read Must have missed that... 1
Guest JIM BARRY Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Must have missed that... your a wag pete, lol....seriously though before it went all out modern stuff and new output , it was a good source of knowledge for me, and to be totally honest your magazine was a MAJOR source of knowledge for me.

Souledtrafford Posted September 26, 2012 Author Posted September 26, 2012 Strangely, No. 137 arrived today! Haven't read it yet, but as previously mentioned pages 4 and 5 contains info on events held on Sep. 8th, 14th and 22nd. Thankfully the 'What's On and Where' section is more up to date for those who travel around the countryside. As "daved" says, there is no need for countless play lists from down under and as Alison said, it did use to be a really good read and I am sure with a little bit of editing and a slight re-vamp, it could return to its former glory. 1

Could just be a case of me getting older though I started buying the Mag about the same time, and would be still doing so now had it not been for not receiving issues, then when eventually getting hold of someone to talk to ( no response to emails ), still not resolving the problem. Ironically when my last subscription was due a mag appeared with a reminder form. Steve Not 2

Steve Not Hi Steve I have stopped renewing my subscriptions a couple of times, but it doesn't last long, & I keep getting drawn back in. I'm scared of missing something lol & do buy it for old times sake & I like to see my piles getting bigger :o) If they can start getting the magazine out to me quicker then I'll most likely renew when my subscription is up as, despite the pro's & cons, it's still an alright mag Regards Ali

Can still remember the first time, as you do, having to take a few short cuts through gaps in fences and peoples back gardens! Said I would never go back, but I did. Enjoy the weekend. 1

A very sad day, but over the moon to see him & Marie after all this time. I know I've had the odd moan in the past, and on this thread, but it will be a great shame if it has. The great Jumbo Records, used to get my Black Echoes in there, when it was in the newspaper form. The guys (& gals) down at Jumbo know their stuff, but lets hope they're wrong this time eh Regards Ali
Andybellwood Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 the're wrong , tho retailers seem to be frustrated with eratic stock delivery
