Soulfulsolutions Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Is there anyone on Soul Source who was or knows someone who had connections with the British or European Music / Record Industry, possibly in Promotions or Marketing during a period 50's through to 70's. I assume that, as in the United States, UK and European record companies received promotional mailings from radio stations, which sent their playlists and charts so that they would get on the mailing list for new releases. If you think you may be able help me obtain old radio station charts or playlists from the UK or Europe I would like to hear from you. Cheers, Lee
Roburt Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Until the mid 60's & the Pirate radio stns, there was only the BBC (Light Programme, etc) in the UK. Of course, Brits listened to Radio Luxemburg & AFN Radio during those years. Many of the UK related Pirate Stn charts are up on the web (Radio Caroline; Radio London, etc).

Roburt Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 no, I'm pretty sure I'm the first person to think of it right now You're wrong there Bob. The idea came to me last Thursday & so on Friday I sent a letter to the Director General of the BBC asking him when I could get acess to the BBC's record library as I needed a few of the 45's he had in there.

Soulfulsolutions Posted September 24, 2012 Author Posted September 24, 2012 I can see how it's easy to come to the conclusion that I'm after records! In a roundabout way it comes down to that, but not in the way you think. I posted the question on behalf of a long term friend and big radio station chart collector in the US who wants to acquire UK and European charts. All that's in it for me is some credit that can be used against his warehouse stock of vinyl, he's always been a good source for me so I opted to help him in his search. Anyway I can't be doing with a whole generation of UK music genres when there's so much US label Northern to be had, so tapping anyone up for records wasn't the aim. Still looking for leads re: original radio station charts and playlists.
