Browsing through 45cat just now, and I came across this oddball in the Stateside discography. Never seen it before, or even knew of its existence. Does anyone know anything about it? Any more releases in the CSS series? (Images from 45cat)

Gotta be for export. Question is, which country?

Exactly my thoughts Den. Unusual number though, CSS 1! Makes you wonder if there were any more released after this. Both sides were released as separate Top Rank singles in 1959 and 1961 respectively.

There was a similar thread to this a couple of weeks ago tops. Or was it on Facebook. No, I'm pretty sure it was on here. Can anybody else track it down? The other thread that is.

This one that talks about South African Statside releases with a JSS prefix?

Hi,

I'm no expert (get that in before anyone else!)

This one states that CSS is Malasian...

https://www.45cat.com/record/css3017

This gives a bit more info and says it's Singapore..

https://rateyourmusic...eries_1964_1968

although I've also seen records listed as being from SIngapore with a different prefix.

Not sure if that helps :)

Cheers

Kev Bod

Thanks Kev. Given the info in the links, I'm assuming that it's an export intended for the Asias. Unless anyone else can shine some more light on it.

Makes a change from two hours ago, when I first looked at the label and thought "CSS? FFS!".

This US ad placed by EMI in 1965 gives a strong clue as to the 'worldwide' reach of the company ..........

... it states they sold their product in the UK + 45 other countries.

Some of these are easy to ID (Australia, NZ, Caribbean Islands, India, Sth Africa, Singapore, Malaysia, etc) but I'd guess it would prove a hard task to come up with the complete list.
