Davenpete Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Does anyone else remember The Dooleys being launched on Nationwide (I guess about 1976) as the UK's first 'home grown' Northern Soul group? There was footage of them dancing on what I think was an empty Wigan floor - wasn't long after Nationwide did a feature on the Casino. Funnily enough if you think about Love of My Life and the cheesier end some of the pop-disco sounds around in that period... Long Gone etc. Dx
Guest Matt Male Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 (edited) I remember the Dooleys, I can't ever remember them being considered northern though. I do remember the two women being frickin ugly. Edited September 19, 2012 by Matt Male
Peter99 Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 I remember the Dooleys, I can't ever remember them being considered northern though. They were from Yorkshire.
Goldsoul Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 The Dooley family were based in Ilford, Essex as a showband in the late 60's. Following TV appearances GTO signed them in 1975. I interviewed them when I worked for Magic in the 90's. I even compiled one of the group's tracks for the North of Watford CD series. Lovely 70's Pop. Northern Soul....nah. 1
Garswood Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 one of them, can't remember which one, moved to culcheth near warrington, i used to clean there windows every 2 weeks for about a year, i was 16 at the time so would have been 1980/81 , didn't know the wigan/northern connection though 1

Davenpete Posted September 19, 2012 Author Posted September 19, 2012 (edited) People seem to be thinking I think they're Northern!... I was pointing out the joke of it, but you could see them trying to cash in given the sound of something like Debbie Fleming and The Street People - You're My One Weakness.
