Guest SteveJohnston Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Claire being a mobile hairdresser is rather handy for more than one reason! a free haircut every time i need one & the one thats much more interesting!! One night i returned from work & after the obligatory hug and kiss from Claire she proceeded to inform me that a customer had sent a cardboard box of 45s for me to look at, "yeah yeah i'll take a look later" was my reply, later at the dinner table and Claire says have you looked at the records yet? "pass them here then if i must" Claire passes me this old cardboard box & i pull the first record & do a double take!! looking back at me was a HMV red & white demo in a company sleeve i slowly slide the record out of its cover praying it's in good nick, it was unplayed M condition "smack dab in the middle" Ray Charles & his Orchestra with the Raylets with the sublime "i wake up crying" on the flip, the next one a HMV demo in company sleeve "baby don't you cry" Ray Charles & his Orchestra, next one HMV demo again in company sleeve "all of my life" Elkie Brooks, then up pops a Columbia demo in company sleeve, "do the dog" Georgie Fame & the Blue Flames with the great "shop around" flip, "Over under sideways down" The Yardbirds Demo in company sleeve with "jeff's boogie" on the b side!!! i may be wrong but is this the other way round on the Columbia issue? Freddie & Dreamers "over you" demo, Gary (us) Bonds "new orleans" Stateside demo all in M unplayed condition! i thought that was the end of the demos when i pulled out the Applejacks "tell me when" on Decca but there was the Demonstration sample not for sale!! up next Barry St John "bread & butter" Decca demo!! then Crispian St Peters "the pied piper" Decca demo that was the last demo in the box all in M unplayed condition all in company sleeves, it turned out that Claires customers Brother-in-law had a record shop from 62 to late 70's & he give her records ever week but this is the only box left!! the rest of the records in that box were 90% soul related around 100 in total when i least expected it. Anyone have a similar find? or records given to them that turned up gems? Steve Juntitled.bmp
Pete S Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 "Over under sideways down" The Yardbirds Demo in company sleeve with "jeff's boogie" on the b side!!! i may be wrong but is this the other way round on the Columbia issue? No that's incorrect. Over Under was a sizeable hit and was the A side. Congrats on the find. 1
Bigsoulman Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 You lucky dog! I had a mate who worked for the gas board and found a box of around 50 British soul (all 60s) in a box in an attic, on asking the woman in the house who's they were she said her son had left them 10 years previous and was now in Oz, she then said "just take them, he won't want them now anyway" Loads of Tamla Motown 500's Stateside's Etc Lenny

Geeselad Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 found, 35 r and r records in a charity shop, last year, all in E+ condidtion, loads of Fats domino, on gold, tri centre, london. They made me £440, in totol, with £ 220 for 'I love you', his rarest uk release, that one was NM. Kept only two back, including- 'sick and tired' wich I've been playing out for a while, very similar to Back slop, but with a vocal! 1
