Platters 81 Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 (edited) What is the source of this...CD ..LP..?....tia ...sounds like a later rerecording..... Edited September 18, 2012 by platters 81
Pete S Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Think these were done in the 70's for budget label compilation albums: I had a version of Um Um Um Um Um Um on a compilation album (though they called it Curious MInd for some reason)
Robbk Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 That has "much newer" sound than the '60s. It surely doesn't sound like Johnny Pate or Riley Hampton's '60s arranging, nor the Columbia musicians they used. It sounds like a '70s arranger and band trying to "copy" the original.
Nickinstoke Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 It sounds as though it was done at the same session as the Gusto 45 with remakes of "Um, um, um" and "Monkey time", issued in 1979
Nickinstoke Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 I've just found a reference to a 4 track EP put out by Gusto in 2008, including "The matador". You can hear a preview in iTunes - I'm sure it's this version. Nick
boba Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 It doesn't even sound like it could be from '79, it has digital synth. It could have been recorded in '79 and the synth track changed later.
Nickinstoke Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 (edited) Does anyone know if this version of "The matador" exists in a physical format? Vinyl preferred, naturally, but I'd take a CD if that's all there is Edited June 23, 2016 by nickinstoke
