Guest JIM BARRY Posted September 17, 2012 Share Posted September 17, 2012 was thinking about what the big tunes back in the day went for after thay went big on the scene!...for instance at the cats when ..stick by me baby went huge, what did the copies that were around at the time fetch?....would like to hear stories about all the old classics first time round ...who had them while they were first being played. one thaat sticks in my mind was paying £5 for a duke browner original at the sale blue rooms after it had been booted. Guest JIM BARRY Posted September 19, 2012 Share Posted September 19, 2012 I remember selling dave evvison a u.s copy of the formations at the top of the stairs for 2 quid in the record bar at wigan, he went on to make it a huge oldie, sold a lou johnson , big top copy of unsatisfied while in the queue outside for the same price.....not huge tunes but that was the going rate at the time. Jim G Posted September 19, 2012 Share Posted September 19, 2012 Back in the day, once a record got pressed (bootlegged) the value of the original dropped like a stone so some real rare records were changing hands for what seems like peanuts today, but in reality were still quite expensive. £20 Might not sound a lot but in 1974 it was a weeks wages.
