Guest ashleysoul Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 I know it isn't northern but it's got soul and it's very. Anyone got a copy of the LP they wanna sell. Regards Ash
Agentsmith Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 I know it isn't northern but it's got soul and it's very rare. Anyone got a copy of the LP they wanna sell. Regards Ash dont know about the lp bro, best ask pete smith, you should check out the double a-side single on pye, "dont run away/stop" 1968 came out on australian astra as well....might be pop but it would have been massive at the casino in its "blue eyed" phase.
Guest ashleysoul Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Cheers It's all about the title cut...proper banging madness....utter class....
Godzilla Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Stop is a well known pop stomper and is pretty pants - especially compared to reviewing - which was also a single on Pye and which is not Northern in the slightest but is a superb record. Horses for courses and all that though, of course
Guest ashleysoul Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Didn't know it came out on a 7" Want one!!!
Cover-up Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Anyone got a copy of the 45 they wanna sell ME?
Godzilla Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Something really weird has happened to this topic? Anyway it looks like I can still reply to the original version which went like this: I know it isn't northern but it's got soul and it's very rare. Anyone got a copy of the LP they wanna sell. Bugger - once the Northern crowd latch on to a record they inevitably chuck far to much money at it and push up the established and settled price. Wish I'd kept my gob shut now
Modernsoulsucks Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 I've merged it. Was it a double posting? ROD
Godzilla Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 I've merged it. Was it a double posting? ROD I've merged it. Was it a double posting? ROD Quite probably Rod
Guest ashleysoul Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 It wasn't a double posting. When I tried to edit my first post, a second after posting it, it kept the original and the edited one. Most probably because people prefer original versions :)
Guest ashleysoul Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Oh and I've found a bashed copy on eBay but still want a nice copy of either the LP and the 45".
slimharpo Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 The Wants Forum has requests for tracks by great soul artists like Jr Walker, Etta James, Buddy Ace, Marie Knight, Barbara Mason, I can't help but get a horrible shudder when I see anything by Sandie Shaw being requested on there alongside those names. I suppose I will have to accept that I missed out on something significant in the 60s and shouldn't have stampeded to the radio/TV whenever she came on to turn it off. I've listened to the track being requested and cannot hear anything 'soulful' in it IMO. 1

Don't think anyones claiming there's anything soulful about it at all, quite the opposite really, it's just "kitsch" and someone wants it. Why anyone would want it is a question that I can't answer either, but I like records by Maureen Evans and Eartha Kitt so who am I to talk.. 1

I only made the post because the inital poster wrote 'I know it isn't northern but it's got soul and it's very. Anyone got a copy of the LP they wanna sell'. it's good we agree it doesn't have soul. I like stuff by Spanky & Our Gang - Sunday Will Never Be The Same has incredible vocals and lots of other non soul stuff too so I don't want to give the impression that I am too much of a 'Soul Snob' just a bit of a one.

Oh in that case I agree with you. It does not have soul. At all.
Guest ashleysoul Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 I choose to disagree. I dont want to open up a bag of nightmates but....What is and isn't soulful Is pretty objective no? You can't compare dana valery with Otis redding but both are soulful, well I think they are for what it's worth
Guest ashleysoul Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 I should add though that when I originally posted the request I knew it had nothing to do with the northern or soul scene I just wanted to find a copy of the LP.
Cover-up Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 I'm first...get in line Err, I was actually the first person to reply to the topic - before someone else mentioned the 45 existing. But then the topics got merged, making it LOOK like I was merely bandwagon jumping. When, in actual fact, I was "trending". So, despite my post appearing after yours requesting the 45, it was in fact posted earlier, technically putting me at the front of the virtual queue for the 7". It's of very little consequence, however. I've been looking for one for about 8 years and it's exceptionally rare. Not massively sought after, but the handful of people who want it REALLY want it. And just to prove I know what I'm banging on about, it came in a tidy picture sleeve, like a mini version of the album. The album is hard to find in nice shape, since the cover is a flimsy card gatefold - but £50 would get you a nice one.
Guest ashleysoul Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 I've sen the 45" on popsike, it looks sweet.... Proper want one now!

Pete S Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 1969 Ta. Sure I have "Today" and "Stop" should anyone want them.
Guest ashleysoul Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 We need to start saying its rubbish
Godzilla Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 (edited) Agreed Ashley. I'm afraid the genie is out of the bottle now though. Reminds me of a post I made a couple of years ago regarding a massive want of mine. I decided not to announce the title as it's never been mentioned on here and I didn't want to draw attention to a 45 that should be obtainable without paying the earth. It's still not been discussed on the site however, so clearly I need to stick to my guns - although I've not had a sniff of the record either, so it could be argued that my cunning plan offers limited success... (edit for typos - left glasses at work again - better go get 'em) Edited September 18, 2012 by Godzilla
Guest ashleysoul Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 I know a cracking tune by Tobi legend but I'm gonna keep it under my hat

Guest ashleysoul Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Personally I think that track does have soul, yes. It's certainly not a 'soul' record but she certainly belts it out with some 'soul'!

Probably longer than 8 years mate, I think I first drew attention to this 45 existing in the late 90s on the funk forum, I remember gerald betting me that it didnt exist. Since first seeing chris arthurs copy back then ive never seen another copy. Demo only no doubt. I remember hearing that the lp caused a big dispute with pye for being too 'progressive' and actually got pulled in the uk which probably explains the rarity of both lp and 45. mik
