Mister Fish Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 (edited) Am I going mad? Today i went into records on Ebay US and in the soul/r&b category there are only 17,000. Usually there's around 200,000 so have over 90% of the records disappeared or been moved? I can't even find the records category for ebay uk!!!! Edited September 11, 2012 by Mister Fish
Des Crombie Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 You are looking at CD's, there is 63 thousand under records. You need to go to Formats & Other then set to Records. Hope this helps
JOE TORQUAY Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 hi, there's only 3,000 + records on r&b & soul on the uk ebay and thats auctions & buy it now. so there's a lot gone missing somewhere, the us ebay is even worse there's only 66,000 and there should be over 200,000. maybe a computer clitch, joe.

lee Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 They're probably all over here now! Most of the warehouses have gone out of business in the U.S now and there are very few record shops left too.
Marc Forrest Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 lookout for that someone who soon will have 183.000+ positive feedbacks, in a moment of boredom he decided to buy them all. 1
Alan Bonthrone1 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Maybe All Going To Be Used For Ship,s Ballast.
Benji Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 lookout for that someone who soon will have 183.000+ positive feedbacks, in a moment of boredom he decided to buy them all. Thought Bob A. was on a shopping spree?
Marc Forrest Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Thought Bob A. was on a shopping spree? is he ? well, maybe THAT was his shopping spree ?
Des Crombie Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Are you sure that there is usually about 200k on US Records R&B & Soul? As only 76k now. Forget global warning, if this is correct then we need to take action to conserve this dwindling stocks so I suggest everyone on SS should stop bidding on and buying these records now for the next few months.
Marc Forrest Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Maybe All Going To Be Used For Ship,s Ballast. if thats the case history will have a chance to repeat itself by having young kids who after having have found them via local dealers and shops will have created a whole "new" dance scene around it. as it will all take place in china, mostly near the coast and surrounding mega cities it will be years later given the name "(chinese) sea soul" by a travelling journalist from bejing as the music is so dfferent to what he will have heard in bejing and other mainland chinese cities. 3
Dave Pinch Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Thought Bob A. was on a shopping spree? no he`s got them already

Mister Fish Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 (edited) US Ebay now up to 117,000. That's 100,000 added in 4 hours! Still way short of normal. Edited September 11, 2012 by Mister Fish
Ian Dewhirst Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 It's loads of artists buying 'em up and recycling 'em as artwork....... https://1800recycling.com/2010/07/uses-old-vinyl-records/ Ian D

Guest soulwaxusa Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 On the U.S. site they have changed the sub-catagories to "style" and now you can not search for a specific sub-catagory under a genre. So for example you can not search for Northern Soul, Funk, Doo Wop etc... under R&B and Soul. Wonder what Einstein at Ebay came up with this fine policy. Good work Ebay. If it ain't broke leave it alone! This is going to be a nightmare for sellers and buyers. They have really screwed things up. I am glad I don't have anything for sale at the moment.
Marc Forrest Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Borrocks thankfully most did notice the although it wasnt installed..
Chalky Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Hopefully all the sh*te has disappeared, all the boots and pressings that plague the UK site. 1

Oh they know what they're doing... They want us to have to search through more stuff to find what we want in the hope that we might get distracted by something else we wouldn't have normally noticed. Or as they would say it "We are adding value to your search by giving you more results to select from".

Thanks for the info. WTF! I still don't get it. The other day there were 200,000 r&b/Soul records now there's 98,000 where should I be looking for the others?
Agent45 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 This is not good. If you back all the way out to eBay's home page and browse to Music > Records and then pick a category, there are a lot of sub-categories listed and others that aren't. This means you really can't find records that are in fact listed. Sellers are going to take a big hit on this unless/until they figure it out. Not soul, but if you go into Rock, the Garage-60s Punk category is totally gone.
Agent45 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Looks like they changed the category number from 306 to 176985. https://www.ebay.com/sch/Records-/306/i.html https://www.ebay.com/sch/Records-/176985/i.html I was looking through Turbo lister and records now go under: 176985 --> Music > Records Also, there are input fields for record and cover condition, which is going to be a nightmare if required, since I put my grades inside my listing template.
KevH Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Also having problem saving searches.Depending on choosing options,i'm gettin anything from 108 records to 16,000 0n UK.
boba Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Thought Bob A. was on a shopping spree? i had some extra cash so i made offers on 130,000 records and everyone accepted
Benji Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 i had some extra cash so i made offers on 130,000 records and everyone accepted Well, you missed mine. Feel free to offer me $$$, pm please

Sebastian Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Looks like they changed the category number from 306 to 176985. https://www.ebay.com/...rds-/306/i.html https://www.ebay.com/...-/176985/i.html I was looking through Turbo lister and records now go under: 176985 --> Music > Records Just had a look at this. It doesn't look good at all. As you earlier wrote, a whole lot of sub-genres are gone within the r&b/soul and rock categories like "northern soul", "Motown", "60s punk/garage" etc. Might be time to start listing things on the co.uk site instead, at least the categories on there make a bit more sense. 1
Mister Fish Posted September 13, 2012 Author Posted September 13, 2012 I STILL don't understand where nearly half the R&B/Soul records have gone. Have they been re-categorised? Put into 'other' or a 'miscellaneous' category. Surely if you've listed under R&B/Soul they couldn't just move it, could they? Nightmare for sellers..
Guest JJMMWGDuPree Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 I just thought I'd check again, and I got 161,093 active listings. Still a little short, but better.
Stuart Bower Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Maybe a lot of sellers have finally got pig sick of the extortionate charges that eBay slap on em for selling their wares. There are other places to sell.
boba Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 no what happened was that they changed the category ID but some servers had stale data and was either filtering on the old ID or didn't have the updated item listings with the new ID 1
Jordirip Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 no what happened was that they changed the category ID but some servers had stale data and was either filtering on the old ID or didn't have the updated item listings with the new ID Is there some way of refreshing your computer so it sees everything as it should do Bob? I've got a lot more in view now than before but still not everything. Jordi
boba Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Is there some way of refreshing your computer so it sees everything as it should do Bob? I've got a lot more in view now than before but still not everything. Jordi it's not an issue with your computer. Ebay is a large system that has to be highly distributed because no one server could handle the millions of users. That means that data gets replicated and cached across different servers and a server can potentially have stale data if it hasn't been updated. I really doubt this specific problem still exists, it probably only existed a few hours after the ID change. They really probably should have restarted or flushed the cache of the replicating servers at the time the ID changed happened to prevent this issue.
Swaggy Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Just checked ebay uk there are at the moment 16,244 records classed under northern soul, 39,616 records under soul music but only 384 under RnB bit of a shortage there so we can keep fishing on the northern and soul categories but leave the RnB stocks alone until greenpeace allow us to dabble there again
boba Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 yeah my comments were specific to the US site, have no idea what goes on on the UK site. With all those boots, etc. it looks like the soul music red light district. 1
