Northern Soul Uk Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 Can you find this then? 'JSS1142'

Northern Soul Uk Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 (edited) dont think it goes that high does it Just bought one from the states, UK Stateside 'JSS 1142' Oscar Toney Jnr - For your precious love/Ain't that true love. Looked on the discography and it's not supposed to be that number. Was there any Stateside stuff booted on a UK Stateside label? Can't see any that start with 'J' either (JSS)? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370647985972?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 The print looks rather suspicious not being in the usual font. Bo Diddley Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Do you think it could be a Jamaican issue? I have the UK demo if you want to compare. Cheers Kev Bod 1
Northern Soul Uk Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 Please Kev, can you upload the image? Thank you
Tabs Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 JSS was used for South African SS releases. 2
Northern Soul Uk Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 Excellent, thank you Mr Diddly :-) I will compare it to the one I have bought.

Northern Soul Uk Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 Yes as you say Tabs, just had verification from the seller that it is from a collection he bought from South Africa. Thank you again. 1
Tabs Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Not a problem. Glad you cleared up the "mystery". Yes as you say Tabs, just had verification from the seller that it is from a collection he bought from South Africa. Thank you again.

Gene-r Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 (edited) Some UK HMV export singles from the 50s and 60s were given a JO prefix, rather than a POP prefix. I'd always believed that the JO stood for Johannesburg. This kind of reinforces that assumption. Does anyone know anything about CSS prefixed UK Stateside 45s? Edited September 19, 2012 by Gene-R
Mike Lofthouse Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Thank you Tabs Just bought one from the states, UK Stateside 'JSS 1142' Oscar Toney Jnr - For your precious love/Ain't that true love. Looked on the discography and it's not supposed to be that number. Was there any Stateside stuff booted on a UK Stateside label? I have two other Oscar Toney Jnr South African Stateside 45's JSS 1170 & 1204 (which is Dark green rather than black) Got them of Denny Johnson when he was working over there and picking up some interesting stuff - he use to pass the 'Deeper' stuff onto me
Airfixkid Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 can you put up a scan? your record would have been issued in 67-68 and possibly with a tri-centre if your lucky. Re Gene's CSS 1 - possibly uk export for the far east {singapore} or maybe Celyon.
