Guest matt tees Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Great track I have had this in my box for nearly six years and always gets a great reaction. I had it on my website for at least 8years prior to that for a fiver, could not sell it, so revisited played it again and it was straight in the DJ box.
Markw Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Oddly enough, if you read the Pete Lawson "Gospel According to Dave Godin" magazine stuff from 1989, El Corels is mentioned as a newie and one which he is particularly enthusiastic about.

I got my copy on Rouser from Rudzi's shop in Leicester in the 90s for @ £2.50 (think he wanted £4 for it, but as usual i Knocked him down)Lol
Dave Thorley Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 The Rouser mix is so much better Sorry, but the Tiny mix leaves the later Rouser mix standing. Spoke to the group a few years ago, they were totally pissed off when they heard, in their words 'The hatchett job' done with the Rouser release. Cut off the intro, bongo's way down in the mix, not the same........ 2
NEV Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 IMHO ...neither copy are any good ! Have heard both copies ..one I picked up on rouser and sold quick...and yours at Leeds Dave . The chick chick chick ch ch chick chick spoils the record for me
Corbett80 Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Isn;t the crossover flip the better side? 2
Guest clanger v2 Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Isn;t the crossover flip the better side? You've changed Joel.....and not necessarily for the better.

Modernsoulsucks Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 I think if we're gonna discuss 45s this section rather than Sales or Wants is the best place. If members could just bear that in mind please. ROD {Sales Forum Moderator}
Haydn Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Defo the first one. Rouser copy is pale in comparison
Gene-r Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 (edited) "You Gotta Be An Angel" is the side that really does it for me. Was it on another label other than Rouser, then? Edited September 6, 2012 by Gene-R
Dave Thorley Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 "You Gotta Be An Angel" is the side that really does it for me. Was it on another label other than Rouser, then? Yep both sides came out on Tiny first, which was owned by the bands manager. He then licensed to both to Rouser, who did a remix of 'Chick Chick'

Surprised it was n your sales for so long at hat time Sean. Around turn of century, early 00's it was quite indemand, Dome, Drunken Monkey etc. As said it has been around for years, since the late 80's at least.. I'm also with Nev, anything good in the record is spoilt by he annoying "chick chick".
Reg Scott Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Defo the first one. Rouser copy is pale in comparison The strange thing with this is they cut the the bongo driven intro from the Chick Chick side for the Rouser release but left the drab intro for the flip which doesn't get going until 28 sec in to the tune - should have left the Tiny version intro for Chick Chick and cut the flip down - IMHO of course
Prophonics 2029 Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Never seen a demo but I have not really looked for one. Had the Rouser copy but went off it and never liked the slow side, lyrics make me cringe.
Pomonkey Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 My favourite Chick song, have it on UK BAF, don't know if got a US release?
Gene-r Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Yep both sides came out on Tiny first, which was owned by the bands manager. He then licensed to both to Rouser, who did a remix of 'Chick Chick' Thanks Dave. I would imagine the Tiny issue must be dog-rare - never knew of it.
Corbett80 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 (edited) "My favourite Chick song, have it on UK BAF, don't know if got a US release?' hi michael. is the flip of this a british rocksteady called 'falling in love'??? Edited September 7, 2012 by corbett80
Pomonkey Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 No fella, tis a version of On Broadway, probably didn't help sales as it's pretty dire, but you're right in that the label is more known for rocksteady type releases, both sides of this are also on a comp lp of various 45's on the label, don't know how tough is to find on your side of the water, maybe a q for Pete S?
jocko Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Oddly enough, if you read the Pete Lawson "Gospel According to Dave Godin" magazine stuff from 1989, El Corels is mentioned as a newie and one which he is particularly enthusiastic about. Pete had knocked that around for a few years, think he had it covered up at one point. He made me take it home 3 different times saying it was a goer and would be perfect for djing with. I returned it sheepishly each time. Think that sayed more about how I could get away with anything at last hour in Allanton rather than me djing skills. It really does not work for me on any level. 1
