Ljblanken Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 i have been made an offer to buy this single. Does anyone know if any boots were made, and what the going price is on this? One is listed on popsike for almost $4,000. That seems like a lot!
Markw Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 (edited) Dave Flynn's old Fran Oliver c/up from the Capitol Soul Club days. Not booted, not many about and not that well known or played out much, hence no real 'going rate' as such. Always wonder whether/who is sitting on a box load of records like this one though! The Ebay sale for a few grand a couple of months ago seems a bit of a one-off, though indicative of the interest in this record. There is one on Ebay now which is a relist from one which was on there a few weeks back (not clear whether it didn't make reserve or what?). Wondering how much your seller wants for it............. Ljblanken Posted September 4, 2012 Author Posted September 4, 2012 the one that was just up on ebay is it. i went ahead and bought it (for $250). i was the second highest bidder from the original ebay auction (he said the original winner failed to pay). i have had this song on a mixed CD for years and always looked for it! 1
Anais nin Carms Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Great stroke of luck for you , love this record its so today
Ljblanken Posted September 4, 2012 Author Posted September 4, 2012 (edited) Thanks! This is actually the MOST i've ever spent on a record (am not a big DJ or collector), but I am quite happy with it! (big sound for my small-fry collection!!) ....now just have to tell my wife! I have actually PRINTED OFF the popsike sale (of $4,000) to show her, so she doesn't break my legs!! Greg Belson Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Always wonder whether/who is sitting on a box load of records like this one though! Looks like that might be answered, mate.......the same seller has just listed another copy on the bay with a starting bid of $200. The 4k price tag (for a VG copy!) was nothing short of ridiculous.....$200 to $300 seems right IMO.
Dave Pinch Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 who ever bought that expensive copy must be having kittens right now

Odd thing about those 2 recent Ebay offers though Greg is that the seller is using the same image and, although listed as 'E' condition, the label has writing and a fair bit of wear, which is why I wondered whether this was a relist (clearly not as our friend who started this thread bought the first one). We shall see.....................as you say though, 4k was crazy. Great record which could do well IMO.
Guest Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 (edited) Dave Flynn's old Fran Oliver c/up from the Capitol Soul Club days. Not booted, not many about and not that well known or played out much, hence no real 'going rate' as such. Shades Of Soul #31 - April 2004 https://www.anoraksco...scReviews4.html This disc has been with me for many years, and is worthy of scene exposure. Delores is quite a prolific artist, but this is her most Northern track I've come across. Her vocal style on this one is almost identical to Fran Oliver on her 'Next time you see me' on Sonar, hence another cover up was born, 'Fran Oliver - Searching' for my man'. The track is powerful, yet instrumentally fairly sparse, with organ work keeping things alive and well throughout, coupled with a fat biting bass-line, with special mention to a memorable hard-blowing rip-rawing sax instrumental break. It has proved to be fairly popular at the Dome, and has had several collectors hounding me to sell it for a while, but I'm resisting especially as I've only found three copies in almost twenty years. Markw Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Nice one Dave! I reckon this record is set to have its day big time. Went down well when I played it at GoGo Children last month.
Guest Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Nice one Dave! I reckon this record is set to have its day big time. Went down well when I played it at GoGo Children last month. It's raw, its Funky, it's got a rip roaring sax break...whats not to like 2

Great record which could do well IMO. i noticed the same thing (same pic). i paid yesterday, so should hopefully receive it soon. two things are strange about the seller. first is that he has such low number of feedback (he clearly has a bunch of interesting records - that he keeps listing as "new item" - which i took to mean "new old stock") and his written descriptions are odd: "record size is seven inches - plays at 45 RPM" (like he has never dealt with records before). i will be very happy when the record actually shows up in decent shape!

I do hope you you eventually receive it . Has the same seller listed the one that is on ebay at the moment ? I think its a little strange if its the case that he has two copies of a record for sale in a matter of weeks when Flynny says he has only seen 3 copies in 20 odd years ? Pomonkey Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Would be very happy for you if it's legit, that would be beyond a bargain, have had many offers over the years for mine, would never let it go!! Rarest one on the label is by the backing band from this 45 but without Delores - Robert Cardwell and his Soul Searchers Band - only know of a few, have one here, there's one in LA, a beat-up copy went to UK few years back, otherwise never see it listed.
Ljblanken Posted September 5, 2012 Author Posted September 5, 2012 now i am worried! the seller has few feedbacks (around 13), but all seem legit. and bogus sellers often use "stolen" images (off popsike etc), but this guys pics all seem to be taken at the same location (on his turntable), so he at least has these records. has anyone seen a boot of this? does anyone know the deadwax numbers? i would be really bummed if it is not real!

Great record which could do well IMO. just to clear up - i have been in contact with the seller and he does NOT have a second copy. he mistakenly re-listed the same image, but i emailed him to clarify and he took it down (he is still getting the hang of ebay). he said he shipped my record yesterday, so i am just crossing my fingers to get it in one piece! (but his feedbacks say he packs well, so let's hope so!)
Ljblanken Posted September 12, 2012 Author Posted September 12, 2012 to wrap up the ail.... got the record today. has some marks and label wear (maybe visual vg or vg+), but plays like a cracker! really pleased! ps - i am on a deloris ealy kick. just won a copy of "finders keepers" on velvet for 5 bucks today! fellow graded it as vg-, but sound file sounds better. yeah! 1
Anais nin Carms Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Really pleased foy you , look out for "Its about time I made a change " Funky and nice 1

I'd wager that the rarest one on the label is a gospel 45, by the Singing Tones.....bloomin' marvelous it is too!

Greg Belson Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 So that's at least 4 copies that have turned up in as many months.....looks like it's not as rare as some seem to think 1
Markw Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 This is the only Deloris Ealy 45 I can find on Ebay at the moment - https://www.ebay.com/itm/ROBERT-CARDWELL-and-his-SOUL-SEARCHERS-BAND-45rpm-7-VELVET-DELORIS-EALY-/200849700142?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item2ec393352e That isn't "I've Been Searching"?
