Guest andybebo Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 So about a year ago I was rummaging through a local record spot that tends to get in a nice small stack of used soul/r&b/and not-so-often funk about every 3-5months. It was good/bad day - got a couple more common essentials for the collection including watts 103rd st rhythm - in the jungle babe (woc, but $2 woc m-), james brown sings raw soul (like $10 vg+ and cover vg-/g), donato - a bad donato ($5 on bluethumb, vg++ and cover vg+). then what did i see sitting there with "Funk $2" penciled onto a white sleeve (another woc) but a pristine copy of ramon morris' thunderous sweet sister funk. the label was so clean it through me off from thinking it was an original, though the guy has never been known to get many reissues (i missed out on the maceo all the kings men snag a couple months earlier - SS!!). before my drool hit the floor i quickly caressed the beauty and took a closer look. indeed too good to be true. upon closer inspection, the etching around the label revealed it's true identity.....GM 521 aka dakota staton's i want a country man. despite the let down, i thought the mislabel of an og groove merchant record with sweet sister funk on top would be worth the couple bucks. my question to you all is, ever seen it before? what would you speculate would make it more collectable, a copy of dakota staton's album mislabelled as ramon morris' or ramon morris' with a 'i want a country man' stamped on it. (my guess would be the latter, plus it'd be listenable). peace, andy bebo
