Russ Vickers Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Firstly thank you to Eddie Hubbard for reminding me of this via FB - cheers mate. Butch played it from an unissued acetate, but demo copies were pressed on Grapevine, but were withdrawn. Some questions: Was the Grapevine demo the same mix as the unissued acetate ?. Did Butch pitch this up + ?. How many Grapevine demos were pressed ?. Were they all sold or did some get trashed ? Brilliant tune BTW Best Russ 1
Russ Vickers Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 That intro caused a stampede to the dance floor...great tune.....
Simsy Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Yeah the Grapevine release was the same as Butch's acetate and yep he pitches it up, but it does sound better that way imo. Sold a Grapevine copy a few weeks back, less than £30 I think. 1
Russ Vickers Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Thanks Ian. Whats the story with Irma & the Facinators version, did it get a legit release, its not mentioned on the Harthon discography unless it is one of the missing numbers ?....any info much appreciated. I did know this when it was played back at the Dome, but my shot away brain has ditched the info ... Russ
Speedlimit Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Hi Russ mate, long time no see the irma & the fascinators version was first played at rock city nottingham mid-late 80's played by jim wensoria then rob marriott sure it came from dave raistrick top tunes both of them atb steve

Steve Plumb Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 As far as I know just 50 DJ copies were made - I don't believe any were trashed, unless they made the issues and trashed them????? Here's some more info on the unreleased 45's on Grapevine 2000 including info on Test Presses, DJ Copies, Issues and a full label listing https://www.soulmusic.co.uk/grapevine_article.htm Cheers Steve 1
jocko Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 50 copies..... pretty sure I have 2 of these*, and based on most records of only 50 copies all hitting at least 4 figures, feel free to send me your best offer, just don't include the wife just yet to see I what else is on offer. *Apologies for the obviously annoying gratuitous I have one post, but my justification, as I need to provide to avoid being labelled little dick, is I am genuinaly amazed at the small run and would obviously seriously consider selling my extra one, assuming I haven't already given it away as I normally do with spares (see a nice guy really!) 1
Guest ruffsounds Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Thanks to all for the responses, nice to know i can rely on you lot for the info. cheers Ralph
Dave West Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 no mate it was a 10" virtue acetate i have a boot of Larry Clinton with irma on the other side, is this the only way to have it then ? Dave
Micksmix Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Irma and the fascinators came out on a goldmine 7"
Baz Coops Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Can anyone confirm that Barons Of Soul ' You need Love' only 50 copies were pressed, I cannot see it (45 -155) on the discography on Grapevine 2000.
Benji Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 From what I remember Barons of Soul was only distributed on demo. Issue was withdrawn due to low fi sound quality.
