Mattfox
Soul has to be tragic - no doubt...that's why we love these kinda deep and sad lyrics of quality productions... Yesterday I stumbled, while diggin' in my own crates, upon the Running Water LP by Clarence Reid. The choon "Please Stay Home" was a revelation of sadness...it's about a wife who committed suicide and what the husband feels after finding out... Any info on this song? Is it a biographical experience of Mr. Reid himself? Cause it's not usual to sing about such a sensitive topic! thx in advance! atb m. btw. didn't find a soundfile on youtube...will upload it during the next days and will post it here... Sebastian
That tune has got extremely tragic lyrics with massive amounts of self-blame. I hope he didn't have to live through that, wouldn't wish that upon my worst enemy. 1 Link to comment Social source share

jocko
Try the equally brilliant lyrically supreme Must I Kill Her by David Hudson, which I am sure was not based on Clarence's life experience. Just a brilliant songwriter, especially of that time and some of my favourite stuff. I think someone else covered MIKH but can't remember who. 2 Link to comment Social source share

Mr. Reid I got some bad news for you concerning your wife ..." - that was confusing me a bit ... Edited September 5, 2012 by mattfox Link to comment Social source share
Steve G
Has anyone seen his film? It's like a 2h documentary following him around as he does his Blowfly "porno" stuff and talking about his life and his influences. His story is very interesting, one of a zillion kids etc, ran away, washed dishes, stacked records for Henry Stone, dodging local sherriffs with his alter ego mask and topless girlies in tow - I am sure there's some embellishment but even without having seen it I'd say it has to be a 100x better watch than old re-runs of "Soulboy". "The Weird World Of Blowfly" is on Youtube. The guy's crazy, but funny. Link to comment Social source share
