just looked that up.... actually quite rude to ask for such a price while the label easy to spot as different to the original IMO

@ soulcarp... hope my fingers crossing works, as it seems that the guy is going to rip peoples money

Geezuss!!!! 1300 for a boot must be a record. Hope you didnt pay that much mate.

I wouldnt pay the price.....makes you think twice?.

Edited by Prophonics 2029

i've just offered him $20 for it, I recommend that anyone else with an eBay account do the same - he's got to physically go on and decline them - maybe he'll get the message

Being a tight git I've offered $10  told him that it all it is worth being a recent repress

I feel a bit sorry for the guy...10 copies...if he bought them at luckys price 2000 USD a piece that makes it 20.000 usd :o ....maybe he did get a discount price, still even 1000 usd per re-issue would see him having lost 10.000 usd. still no excuse of course to try to shift them on via ebay. he should really have returned them to mr lucky.

i offered 10-00 the other day - so chalky --- you might win it :D

ive sent said record back and opened a case with ebay will keep this topic informed

Hadnt seen this but heard about it

Obvious at first glance its not an original

Legit reissue or boot? Anyone know?

They are done by Mr Lucky himself, Luckey Jamal Davis. He offered me some a long time ago after I made contact with him (before facebook btw).

He offered me 6 at i think $2000. He had already sold 10 to someone in France so he told me and these were the last 6. This is some years ago. Since then they have been sold all over the world including Jonno and Nev. Some believed he had a small box of originals. As you say one look and you can see they aren't originals.

If he'd sold them at say $20 which is all they are worth no one would have bothered and he would have sold the lot probably.

There's a French seller called Crazy-Records on CD&LP, who i'm assuming is the same guy. He's poached a popsike picture of an original and added it to his listing. Naughty boy....

There's a french seller on ebay under two different names I think, think Jonno mentions him further up.

:( He's refused my offer so you could be in there with the higher offer....or will it be Joe?

i also have had a offer of $10 declined by the seller !

jason

My offer was declined

I've since had the following message

"Hello..Luckey Jamal Davis is selling copies of his promo ,with letter of authentication for $999 + $60 for paypal fees and posting ,so if you can get one for $20 GOOD LUCK !Don't forget that i put a best offer !

I was given this copy at a lower price because Luckey is my friend ,but its not my favouriye music ,so i am selling it .

It is not a boot because it is being sold by the owner of the record!

it is not a re-issue ..promos were never issued originally in the 1960's ,so how can it be re-issue ?

This is a collectors item and is limited edition ,so when they are all sold ..they will become collectors items !

thankyou and have fun!

- funkitalien "

John

me too

told him a record is released - if another (Same record) is released later

its a re-issue

got same letter as Chalky

think he will be lucky (NO PUN INTENDED) to sell these above say 30-00

I think that it's not fair to expect an artist from back in the day to understand the strange world of record valuation and collecting now. Moreover they are probably bitter that they are the real people who made the music yet random record dealers are making lots of money.

That said, Jamal Davis and other artists and producers who do stuff like this aren't entirely innocent of any wrongdoing, as they are trying to exploit people and get money. It's just that they have no clue about the area they're trying to hustle in so they can't effectively exploit people.

well said Mr Pinch

james bell - pressed up copies of his tune back to back

and told everyone they were re-issues done by himself

to cut out middle man - thata a BEST way to do it and everyone is happy

i bought a few from him - i still made a crust

He knew what the record was worth and how rare, I told him years ago. When he offerd me his "LAST" 6 copies at $2000 I told him I'd never shift them, I had my doubts then as to their authenticity. I wouldn't have felt comfortable trying to flog 6 copies at $2500 or whatever to try and make a bit. Those last 6 have sold quite a few times over.

Yes, just saying that he clearly didn't understand what creates the value in the record collecting world given that he assumed his fake copies would be worth the same or that his fake copies would be indistinguishable from the originals.

lost my case with e-bay and he's got the record back :(

Im gutted for you mate, I really am

I think its time for a mass cull of these dodgy sellers and their wares. I feel like starting a facebook group to name and shame these people selling 'limited edition re-issues' and the other crap they carefully disguise to make them look legit!

I'll get you a pint when I see you and i might disclose the real identity of my Benny Hill cover up to cheer you up

As others say gutted for you pal. Can you not do anything through credit card, sure someone had some luck that way in the past?

why did you loose your case, I by now know of several who won theirs ?? Blimey...thats really awful. Must say LJD has done real big damage to his record and name. To me it will never be the same to hear said Stardom 45...in fact I am not so sure if I really wanna hear it again at all :(

sure the trades description act must have some clout here/go to your trading standards

or you should get your credit card to do something

if it was a counterfeit 50-00 jumper they were selling as orig

you have grounds - so whats the difference

very sad news.

not in your leauge but i lost $130 to a ebayer the other day. unplayable 45 which he said played fine.said what am i moaning about it was only $130 not $300.he dosnt have the money now.he is in a bad financial state @ the moment.so am i,i just lost £90.ps his ebay names(avoid)are..kentsvinyl & collector.of.things.

only way the guy must of won,was if he pulled out the authenticity card from lucky(sod).

i lost my case by asking the seller not to declare the value of the record to customs to avoid paying import duty you live and learn would like to thank every one for there comments will see if i can get some redress from my bank card

What has customs got to do with PayPal? W*nkers. The sooner another system for transferring money or paying for goods comes in the better.

This fella is very slippery ,I'm sure it's the same guy who stung Darren Browne with the Mr Soul 45 a few yrs back ..from the same part of France too ?

if it came from France theres no import duty as we are in the EU i think

Ted is right, you are in the EU. Therefore no import duty from any other EU country (since 1973 I think, so quite recently for some)

I really can't believe that there are still folks in the UK who think they have to pay import duty when buying from another EU country :dash2:

Well, we get robbed for taxes at every other opportunity, so it's seems too good to be true when we don't get stung for something!
