Amsterdam Russ Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Can you identify the track? I'm guessing called "Eyes of love" or "Looking in the eyes of love" and I'm told it comes from Detroit. There are two names on the label: Yvonne Stevens & Ralph (something - looks like it could be Woothy / Woolly / Woodly). The song sounds really familiar - was it recorded by someone else? https://soundcloud.com/harveysoulfinger/eyes-of-love-sample All help appreciated.

Don't know that version-but it should sound familiar... it's from the Opera "Carmen" and it's called Habanera ATB Tony Edited August 21, 2012 by tonyp
Diddy Morgan Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 after listening, this thread should be closed immediately 1
Guest ritchie Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 The tune is the famous aria from Habanera (Carmen : Bizet) "L'amour est un oiseau rebelle." ("Love is a rebellious bird")

("Love is a rebellious bird") I have Habanera in my music library - just been giving it a listen. Of course, no wonder it sounded so familiar! Excellent - well spotted the pair of you! Much like The Toys and their use of Bach's Minuet in G major... Artist & label? Edited August 21, 2012 by Russell Gilbert
Amsterdam Russ Posted August 21, 2012 Author Posted August 21, 2012 Blimey, that's impressive. How did you happen to remember that??
Prophonics 2029 Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Prefer the first issue. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AU3nDOy_FwE&feature=related Makes me so glad prowed to be into old soul music.
Modernsoulsucks Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Dreadful!!! If you have a liking for the Bizet tune there is a really good rendition by Regina Resnick from a performance in early 60's I think. None of that 70's/modern opera rubbish. ROD
Amsterdam Russ Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 Excellent - thanks for the practical input, those that actually had something to contribute. As for personal opinions, each to their own. Now, anyone have information about the origins of the song/acetate & the two names mentioned earlier?

Amsterdam Russ Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 I liked it. You've always had great taste, Pete! In lieu of identities being discovered, and in honour of the views shared here, I'm thinking about naming the singer "Miss Marmite".
Prophonics 2029 Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 I thought interesting use of a great tune and to hear it in English was better than I have listened too at eno.
Amsterdam Russ Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 In other words, you haven't got a clue.
Prophonics 2029 Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 (edited) Err! Thought the cat was out of the bag on its id so never gave it another thought. It did remind me how Baby Boy on golden world stats a bit like Blue Moon tho. Edited August 22, 2012 by Prophonics 2029
Amsterdam Russ Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 The only thing I know is that I can make out one and a half names on the disc. No idea if these people are directly connected to the music or not. If you can shed any sort of light on the track - who/where/when/what label or studio - it would be greatly appreciated...
Robbk Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 The musicians sound a little like a few of the late '60s Detroit musicians. So, IF we find out that this recording was made in Detroit, I won't be terribly shocked. But sound can fool you sometimes, and people like Richard Tee in New York, sometimes 'simulated "The Detroit Sound" several times, very successfully. I'll be curious to find out who made this recording, and where it was made.
Chas Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Ooh a bit of culture, splendid stuff.Unfortunately not for knuckle draggers though, but those of us who appreciate the finer things in life applaud it...good arrer!
boba Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Ooh a bit of culture, splendid stuff.Unfortunately not for knuckle draggers though, but those of us who appreciate the finer things in life applaud it...good arrer! what does "good arrer" mean (or is it a typo)?
Chalky Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 what does "good arrer" mean (or is it a typo)? I think if I read correctly it is a sporting term, Darts (if you can call darts a sport). "Good arrow" as in good shot, or good one.

Platters 81 Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 I think if I read correctly it is a sporting term, Darts (if you can call darts a sport). "Good arrow" as in good shot, or good one. reminds me of that Gene Wilder line in Young Frankenstein....."nice grouping"...
Guest Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Ooh a bit of culture, splendid stuff.Unfortunately not for knuckle draggers though, but those of us who appreciate the finer things in life applaud it...good arrer! never mind 'good arrer' its the 'knuckle draggers' that caught my attention. Who are 'knuckle draggers'? Does that refer to anyone who does not like the same songs as you? I can't stand people with that sort of attitude...and a huge part of the reason I don't like going out much anymore...the scene seems to be full of self righteous people who slag people off for what they choose to listen to, or what clothes they wear etc
Chalky Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 It is about time the insults, simply because someone else doesn't share the same views were knocked on the head. By all means comment on the record but why drag the conversation down by insulting anyone who doesn't care for it?
Amsterdam Russ Posted August 23, 2012 Author Posted August 23, 2012 Simon, still hoping you might be able to shed some light on how come you remember that post from 2008. Were you the original seller referred to back then??
Prophonics 2029 Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 It sounds like Please Leave Drake and The Ensolids on the backing but reminds me of stuff I have on RCA like Dangerous Town. Sorry I can't help more Russ. 1
Guest Bearsoul Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 (edited) could be this Lady https://hem.bredband.net/funkyflyy/takaboom/takaboom1.html Edited September 3, 2012 by bearsoul
Amsterdam Russ Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 Nice thought, except she would probably have been 12/13 when the track was recorded.
