Billy Freemantle Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 (edited) I really appreciated it when I 'discovered' Sharon Jones and Charles Bradley. In the same spirit I'm linking to Dee Dee and the Dirty Martinis a band I caught in Toronto the other night. Absolutely brilliant hairs on back of neck stuff. What else is new? spike1 Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 (edited) One of my favourite etta James tracks when this gets played at the twisted wheel I just get lost on the dance floor! This is a really good rendition great vocals and good backing You say this was filmed in Toronto ? With the bare brickwork at the back of the stage it reminds me of a certain club. On whitworth street Manchester Would love to see this group down at the wheel Spike Edited August 25, 2012 by spike1
Billy Freemantle Posted August 25, 2012 Author Posted August 25, 2012 It reminded me very much of the Wheel too! Much better live than they appear in the video. Sax player is possibly English and briliant.
Petedillon Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 A band called Vintage Trouble supported the Impressions last year in Manchester, they were blinding..my mate Easty has just bought their album which he is raving about..not heard it yet myself.

Guest keithh Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 If no one has caught James Hunter live, I urge you to do so. I think he is great.
Mike Lofthouse Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 If no one has caught James Hunter live, I urge you to do so. I think he is great. He was the worst act I have ever seen live - the only act I ever had a refund because the performance was so poor
Billy Freemantle Posted August 26, 2012 Author Posted August 26, 2012 Dee Dee and the Dirty Martinis - You can't hurry love

Mike Lofthouse Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 [ Mike you must have caught him on a bad night i've seen James Hunter 3 times now and the guys brilliant. I sure did! - it was at the time of his 'People Got To Talk' album which I had bought and enjoyed - and of course I knew him from his Howling Wilf days, so was really looking forward to it. Saturday night too - he was already on stage at 8:00 and was gone by 9:10 - his 'patter' was awful - he came across as 'Del Boy' - he kept doing a 'fast' number then a 'slow' number. He really didn't want to be this far North ! the more he tried to engage the audience the more withdrawn they became - people didn't want to be dancing that early in the proceedings. As I say there must of been plenty of complaints as they refunded half the admission price! Sadly, I can't bear to listen to him now! Mike
Guest Soulshake Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Sorry to hear that mate, that album is really great too.
