Amsterdam Russ Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 (edited) Picked up a couple of acetates recently. No idea who the tracks are by. Any ideas? All help appreciated. The first one is an R&B flavoured number. https://soundcloud.com/harveysoulfinger/unknown-im-through-with-you The second has a nice cross-over feel to it a https://soundcloud.com/harveysoulfinger/unknown-heads-you-win-sample (I've best guessed song titles for both based on the lyrics) Edited August 16, 2012 by Russell Gilbert
boba Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 i don't recognize either but the second one sounds clearly White to me
Amsterdam Russ Posted August 16, 2012 Author Posted August 16, 2012 Yup, little doubt that the second singer is white.
Garethx Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 The singer on the second song is naggingly familiar. He sounds a bit like Clark Sullivan whom Ollie McLaughlin produced solo on Enterprise and later as part of Liberty on BASF. Not saying it is him though. Any info at all on the acetate's label? Also worth searching the BMI online archive for titles which might fit.
boba Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 i can look in copyright if you have a title, idea of year, and it's an odd enough title. Any other markings on the acetate (e.g. writer, publisher, etc.). BMI probably won't have it online.
George G Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 The 'crossover' one sounds like a generic early 70s pop record. It could pass for a Bobby Sherman demo (it's not him but the range and key would be a match for him) - or other pop acts of time. Too pop for Three Dog Night or a more rock oriented hitmaker. Sorry, there aint no soul in them old grooves.
Amsterdam Russ Posted August 17, 2012 Author Posted August 17, 2012 There are some names on the label of the 2nd track and I'll post up what I've found out when I get some time. It definitely has a poppy feel to it, but I've heard much worse played out and masqueraded as soul

Amsterdam Russ Posted August 17, 2012 Author Posted August 17, 2012 Whatever... I like the track. And I have to say I could see it going down quite well if played out. To be honest, I'm more surprised that no one's offered any info or suggestions about the origins of the first track...
George G Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 I think the second one might be Gary Puckett. Deffo sounds right up his alley. I also thought of Mark Lindsay.
