Ther was a UK band who did a version around that time.

I think they were from the West Midlands, possibly Walsall. I was seeing a girl who knew one of the group but I couldn't tell you who the group were. I never heard the version, but I understand It was not a Soul / Northern record in any stretch of the imagination.

Other than that, the only other version apart from the Invitations, Wigans Ovation and Laura Pallas would be the Beach Girls.

cheers mick, half of my bet won with a true "know it all" of northern who says hes never heard it, it does exist, now ive got to get one,your not still in touch with that girl are you ?

Alas, no - and I haven't a clue what happened to her (it was 25 years ago). As to the record, I've trawled tinterweb and I can't find any reference to any other versions apart from the four above mentioned versions .... unless you count this one by Sid Saint John !!

Is he singing over the Wigans Ovation backing that was knocking about in the 70's ??
