British rare soul collecting doesn't get much more alluring than this, a superb clean condition, with only a small fine discreet 2/6 on the label, you will have to squint but scrutinize the magnificent label scan, so miniscule it pales in comparison to the draw of the green & white DEMO Top drawer stuff....so very plesing on the eye & ear. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 235.00 Imperial C's Someone Tell Her OMG a STOCK COPY..in just sublime condition, two immaculate yellow labels hugging vinyl that only reveals the merest surface blemish or or two. This copy shows absolutely no signs of courting a DJ, perfect sound reproduction This will be an opportunity to own a top-flight Northern Soul DEMO at an affordable price, as the labels are reversed. This does not distract one iota from the amazing delights in the grooves or the pulse quickening label-vista. Tiny flaw, that many will see as a chance to own..... this truly iconic 45. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 368.00
JOE TORQUAY Posted August 8, 2012 Author Posted August 8, 2012 Willie Kendrick Give Me Lots Of Lovin' C/w You Can't Bypass Love Black is rare and beautiful! The magic of Pied Piper once again is laid before you, and you'd be right to presume this review will be 100% biased in favor of the most-creative Soul-production team ever. This Willie Kendrick session showcases two 45's also covered by two other extreme Pied Piper talents. Topside was recorded on the unparalleled Freddie Butler Kapp album and the flip cover by in the incomparable Hesitations. It's not for me to suggest which ones are the best takes, as I love every note of each version. What I can underline is the level of precise genius mustered by Joe Hunter and pals is unsurpassable, as is owning this as the rarely seen BLACK STOCK copy! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 127.00 Connie Francis It's Gonna Take Me Some Time POPCORN and how! There is to my knowledge no USA 45 for the recording... Before you today is a raresoulman auction debutant in the form of an extremely RARE 1962 UK DEMO! The versatile Ms. Francis seemed to a vocal chameleon equally at ease with Country, Rock & Roll, Pop, Teen or this compelling style of down-n-dirty-get-ya-ass-on-the-dance-floor 60s that's can only be categorized as Popcorn Northern Soul of the most-infectious kind. Love it to bits, but love the scan even more... Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 42.00 Ty Karim I Ain't Lying C/w Only A Fool This lady is heralded as perhaps the most important Soul Sister contributor to Northern Soul ever. Every single recording is considered a trophy, so we thought how about listing her most neglected title. How could this 45 not have rocked every house and club on the Island as some point during the last 4 decades. It is after all, another top-drawer explosive sister-soul session, that would detonate any dance-floor into self-destruction. Soundfile attached is at the designed 45rpm. NB play the a-side @ 43rpm and the record lifts yet an other notch. We'll leave the desired RPM to the future owner, who like me most probably will say I'll any Ty Karim 45 @ any speed this lady IS the Queen of NS. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 511.00 Spellbinders The Magic Of The Spellbinders - Mono Promo This may be the longest soundfile we have ever put on the site, because this 1966 New York session crafted one of the finest vocal-group albums ever. Only The Hesitations or The Metros LP's get close to matching the richness and quality this Van McCoy and Dave Kapralik's collaboration. We've picked 7 tracks from the PROMO, but could easily have recorded all 10 as the entire album arranged & conducted by Van McCoy offers sheer vocal group brilliance. Check out the exceedingly impressive soundfile - that'll give plenty of you the time to drool over the label & sleeve scan. You'll soon notice some killer Northern Soul tracks that never achieved 45 release. Bob Shivers, Jimmy Wright, Ben Grant, McArthur Munford & Elouise Pennington you are absolutely MAGIC! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 177.00
JOE TORQUAY Posted August 8, 2012 Author Posted August 8, 2012 Jock Mitchell Not A Chance In A Million C/w I Got To Know The name Barney Duke Browner and Impact records sparks fond memories of his talents with the pen and the console. Duke Browner writes and guides Jock Mictchell through this bellowing horn crammed session which Jock proves he is the Biggest voice on the block. Man, this guy deliverS a song, riding wave after wave of blaring brass in an unfaltering defiant manner - of hey there's "NOT A CHANCE IN A MILLION". Flip it over and the tune is so nearly as good, two totally terrific Northern Soul dancers of the most powerful type. But the aspect that strikes me about this offering is the sublime condition. Rarely do you meet an Impact 45 without the RED label being faded or sporting varying degrees of ring wear. Equally, rarely do you ever meet this title without signs of NS DJ abused. Gaze upon the solid-red label, unblemished! check out the note-perfect soundfile.. Some copy this is...flawless Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 511.00 Jeffrey Some Kind Of Love Small label Maryland D.I.Y. release from Jeffrey, that is dead-right for the landslide dance movement toward 70s & 80s indies with a sprinkling of funky attitude. JOE TORQUAY Posted August 8, 2012 Author Posted August 8, 2012 Torch Program Flyer & Membership Card 1972 Torch - Tunstall Stoke On Trent Glossy finish pocket-size November 1972 flyer for forthcoming events. Announcing the legendary "The Kingspinners" resident DJ line-up of KEITHMINSHALL, MARTYN ELLIS & ALAN DAY. November the 11th - DORIS TROY and her 10-piece soul show, made their Torch debut appearance, and proudly boasting a "SUPER_SOUL SCOOP" with FONTELLA BASS performing on the 25th. November. Admission for the two live acts & all-night Northern Soul was 70p Printed both sides, it's interesting to see the rivalry between the Catacombs, Blackpool Mecca etc. in 1972 as the very last sales pitch made on this flyerr is: "Our ALL-NIGHTER October 14th. visited by 13 other DJ's - Thanks for te compliments! 13 other DJ's had to be there to see what records the "Torch" was playing and why near 9,000 members had already joined. Gold finish membership card is # 8544. It is unreasonable to expect these membership cards, or pocket sized flyers to be ever experience in Mint. The "Torch" was the amphetamine fueled nerve center of the English Soul-scene of the era. The hot steamy, crowded and bustling atmosphere and all night dancing cause more than a few creases to the fans pocket contents. 40 years on, this neat presentation is a vital artifact in the history of Northern Soul.. pikeys dog Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Spellbinders LP - great album, but only £75 tops in the real world. Be interested to see what a UK Valadiers, or Mike and the Modifiers would fetch since Martha raised over £800 (record collector books it at £400 , and Manship himself rated it at £561 - his previous auction high)
