Mark B Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 oh another newish 70's modern tune probably not everyone's cup of tea but i really do like it and played it out a couple of times is the fat jack band !!! My cup of tea as you know I was also playing the sun and rain before the Greatstone soul club closed Mark
Chalky Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 I do agree that its pretty rare seen a few on ebay but not any huge amounts. I agree it is pretty rare and like you seen them go through ebay. Think the last one was around $700?? It has been around some while but not widely known outside collectors.
Chalky Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Again, the JT Carter record has been collected for about twenty five years. This is the b-side of Closer To Your Heart and is probably even worse. Old Gary Spencer biggie.
Wiggyflat Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 What do you think of this.....i recorded it on a soundburger which caused hissing..I like it a a record but not enough oomph for my playbox.I will get around to uploading the unreleased tracks i dubbed from a sixties Canadian radio session by Jay Jackson and Little Diane 1
Kris Holmes Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 (edited) this is the flip to known funk 45 which a couple years ago i started flipping over & playing at soul nights, people dig it & will most often come up to the decks & ask about it. https://soundcloud.com/kris-holmes/side-b Edited August 7, 2012 by Kris Holmes
Sebastian Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 this is the flip to known funk 45 which a couple years ago i started flipping over & playing at soul nights, Do you know if this got a 45 release in the US? Have only ever seen the NZ issue.
Dave Thorley Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Here a few lesser known thing, wouldn't be foolish enough to say unknown........................ 60's/70's/80's 3
Dylan Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 a realy nice griity 60s track i've never heard out but that is known by collectors is david dee "every loving man" time I think this has all the ingredients to be a popular all nighter record. pretty hard to find as well.
Marc Forrest Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 I have been spinning the sun & rain over a year in Hamburg + @ hip city once and it went down very well everytime !!!! If ya spin it to an open minded crowd with some known northern with a similar tempo it works a treat. But as always newish tunes have to be mixed in quite nicely in order to work.... But for me a current biggie is this marc Forrest spin altough he has been spinning it for some time !!!!! and lots of stuff played at the last Hip City Anniversary !!!! cheers frank , glad you lilke it...if your reaction at the anniversary was anything to go by I had indeed a feeling you would ;) first played it out 2004 or ´05 in Hamburg at the mandarin kasino when I was guesting there together with butch. just sort of re-activated it of lately ;)
Geeselad Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 I'm genuinely sorry if people dont think this is a worthy topic for a thread, but I thought it would be an interesting discussion at least...I was just trying to keep things upbeat & interesting/ I would add that one prominent DJ has already PM'd me two very good tunes that were unknown to me, so just for that alone it has been worth while. Anyhoo...lets let it run & see where it goes, keep it positive... , Unknown to who Russ? a band of 100 collectors, who have, 'the knowledge' or to the general soul public, I'm trying not to be perdantic but with so few sounds making it through into the larger halls nowadays and the rare scene suffering from numbers issues, are we talking something that might actually break through into greater spheres? Russ
Ian Dewhirst Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Can't believe Wylie-Hestor stompers are still turning up on tiny Detroit labels......... Ian D
Soulman Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Can't believe Wylie-Hestor stompers are still turning up on tiny Detroit labels......... Ian D I quite agree in principal Ian although for the best part of 10 years prior to this being unearthed there was not much "released material" that grabbed the boll*cks so tightly... and it's been a good 9-10 years since it's first play. On that basis is this the most important / best / newest 60's discovery to come out of a 20 year period. If so, boy has that well gone dry Steve Handbury 2
KevH Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Here's on i've been playing for a while.Not totally unknown,but near. 3
Steve L Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 More than the last 2 years but Butch's Mighty Lovers cu is the best record of the 21st century for me. If you havent heard this you seriously need to put it on your bucket list! 3
Des Crombie Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 I really dont know if this is unknown or not, wouldnt suggest it is an unknown but everytime I play it, it keeps the dancefloor filled and people always ask me what it is and who its by and when I've asked some others about it they dont know it. So I would say its lesser known, up here anyway. I like it. Please ignore the video and all the text as thats irrelevant, its the tune I'm posting. Not sure how to post a Youtube vid, so fingers crossed this works.. 3
Kris Holmes Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Do you know if this got a 45 release in the US? no it did not. possibly an unconfirmed german 45 on ariola as well...........
Chalky Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Can I ask when posting videos please type who and what the track is. Those viewing on mobile device cannot always play said video and it will help if they can see who and what it is, they might be able to add to the discussion. I thank you 1

Pomonkey Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Bold Breed isn't what I'd call a new discovery, agree still not that many copies around which isn't quite the same thing
KevH Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 thnaks chalky I have this problem with a lot of youtube links its a bit annoying. Sorry, forgot.
Popular Post Sean Hampsey Posted August 9, 2012 Popular Post Posted August 9, 2012 I would say that these are some of the very best discoveries in recent times. Top Drawer Soul Music that would have been big on any self respecting Soul Scene at any point in the past 40 years... had they been discovered! Candi Staton - "One More Hurt" William Bollinger - "I Won't Have To Cry No More" Willie Walker - "Runaround" The YouTube clips really don't do 'em justice. Buy em when you can! Dean Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Just reflecting on Sean's 3 above. I don't mean this in any way dismissive of the thread as I've enjoyed going through the tunes but I think the majority of Kent Select releases fit the bill of the original thread. 1
Sean Hampsey Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Just reflecting on Sean's 3 above. I don't mean this in any way dismissive of the thread as I've enjoyed going through the tunes but I think the majority of Kent Select releases fit the bill of the original thread. I think you're right Dean. Was beginning to think I'd killed the thread off, by stating that these are some of the best discoveries in recent times, just because it's so blindingly bloody obvious that they are. They're in short supply too, already, so need picking up when you can and, let's face it, the label requires and deserves the support of every Soul fan (IMO). Let's not forget this other brilliant Gem of a discovery from the past 2 - 3 years... also on Kent Select. Spencer Wiggins "I'm At The Breaking Point". A Southern Soul stormer that's certainly up there with the now famous 'Two Willies" 45 and the stunning Candi! Sean 2
Popular Post luxury soul Posted August 10, 2012 Popular Post Posted August 10, 2012 Hey Russ...there's so many waiting to be discovered just waiting for us to get older! These days they're called ballads...give it another 10 years and they'll feel like stompers :-) BTW; you still win best nighter recovery for Winsford circa 2002 In the meantime...a frequent visitor to my music room and fairly new to my old ears; Sherrell Bros - The Price - Currison 4
viphitman Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 My cup of tea as you know I was also playing the sun and rain before the Greatstone soul club closed Mark Great that you like it too !!! Both tracks go down very well mixed in with a few classics and slowly becoming Motte Oldies ;)
viphitman Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Ok, most of us can not come up with the big guns like butch and co but there are lots of tunes which very very rarely graced the decks and could be considered as a ''new discovery'' as only a few collectors may be aware of those tunes. I hope a few more people going to post some tracks !!!!!! I did post this quite a few times and I have also been playing this for a good few years (8-9 I think??) but until recently it never came up on any playlist. Also, when I asked some long standing dj's about it they didn't know about it at the time. It's not a manic stomper but a nice little mid tempo soul number which also became a Motte Oldie over the last few years ;) Sorry for the bad sound but it sounds fantastic played out !!! I hope you guys enjoy it !!! 1
Cunnie Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Probably a bit too Funky for most & just scraping in to this thread as was recorded in 1979 but not known by many & a bit of a bugger to get too. Transend - Don't Get None On Ya.

Dave Thorley Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 is this new or old ?, , and this quality tunage The Hudson People got played a lot back in the day around the country, originally on the Hit House 12" release, which is a better mix, so much so that Ensign picked it up and put out a 12" & 45. Was very popular at Stafford in the early 80's. Recently it has seen a third release as a re-edit on the Arision label, but not heard that.
Steve G Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 is this new or old ?, , and this quality tunage "At the Motel" an old Yarmouth "Soul Essence" spin from quite a few years ago.

Mal C Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 "At the Motel" an old Yarmouth "Soul Essence" spin from quite a few years ago. My golly that's a great track, took me an age to get an Eunice Collins, had no idea its actually been played out.. BIG record for Miss Goldie ex Sydney now residing in Melbourne, she used to hammer that on a radio show she did every Friday, that would have been 2004/5... Mal.C
Ernie Andrews Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 so if someone were to post the identities of the unidentified "unknowns" in this thread, what would the consequences be? Actually Bob - Just some ego trippper getting outed thats all People who cover -up should be done under the trade description act for misrepresentation.
Dave2 Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 I would say that these are some of the very best discoveries in recent times. Sean Willie B's in the DJ box permanantly. And if requiring a modern to northern shift - ever done the 'One More Hurt' double? (Candi, followed by Marj). And how about Barbara Perry - A Man Is a Mean Thing. (Uptempo RnB tight dancer with rock 'n' roll guitar/ dirty sax middle eight). God bless you Ady C!
John Reed Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 I would say that these are some of the very best discoveries in recent times. I also thought the Clarence Carter EP was something special too.
