Julie Moore Posted August 31, 2012 Share Posted August 31, 2012 Oh & the Alldayer we went to in London years ago, that Kev Moore ran in Brixton (?) with pretty much the whole of the South Coast massive in convoy, hammering down the motorway together...tunes blastin & the banter flowing...Mr Abbott, Csordas, Molly, Jason & a host of others on fine form....the Detroit Pirates ah arrrggghhhh !!!....was part of what we now refer to as 'the lost weekend'....you really had to be there, but sticks in my mind as a wonderful mental day with a heap o soul & some fine friends who are all fantastic, but in serious need of help lol . Julie Moore Posted August 31, 2012 Share Posted August 31, 2012 One of the best all dayers for me was Blackpool Mecca reunion it was the day after our kids 40th in Blackpool 1998/1999? just turned up to it not knowing what to expect as did`nt really frequent it when it was massive .............but bloody hell ...........The Carstairs, Rose Batiste, Pat lewis & a young girl that Ian Levine introduced she sang like an angel .................absolutley the dogs danglies never forget that day as long as im breathing Link to comment Social source share More sharing options...

Guest manusf3a Posted September 3, 2012 Share Posted September 3, 2012 Wigan casino 1979 ( aged 15 ) Nothing as ever come close to that feeling of walking through the door into the main room ,to the sight and sound of all those fantastic dancers ,the heat and those two ultra violet lights above the floor ,that illuminated every thing white ! Unashamed and no apologies to all those who say "the casino was s**te after 76 " Oh err!! Sorry if i have offended anybody with my "One of the best experiences" but i did not realise it was only aimed at it being a musical experience, having said that without the chemicals i don't think any memorable experience i have had would be that memorable without it, i could be wrong for sure, i wouldn't know though as i have never done one without the other. Agree wholehearted the experience is the whole thing the context the whole shooting match.As far as drugs back then being mostly taboo I guess they were at the policemens ball or other such functions but certainly not at a ns all nighter.Like Terry says "wha hey,down yer neck and away!.I can understand folk now years on not coming clean about drug use for a whole myriad of reasons me,I prefer to be up front about things but have of course faced prejudice when being so in certain contexts. Ive also seen people stating that only around ten per cent of those attending all nighters during the seventies took drugs,look through some of the sites threads and youll find more than a few making that claim,well I must say they are talking out of their arsewholes.I wonder just how many of todays"I never indulged and hardly anyone else did would have gnawed their own arm off at the elbow for a handfull of green and clearsWhats that thing that people write when saying such things ah I know"Yeh you know who you are,!. MrsWoodsrules Posted September 4, 2012 Share Posted September 4, 2012 Main hall Wigan, 2.00am every single Satuday without fail, waiting for Richard's opener, it never failed to get the blood racing. Just the best. I went for 21 consecutive Saturdays without missing one at one stage, i had a private competition with my best mates going on, who would be the first to miss one, it was me in the end, as I had to go on holiday with my mum & dad, was gutted, couldn't wait to get back. Every single moment was special in that place, wouldn't swap any of those memories. And to cap it, my dad would have a big fry up ready for me Sunday mornings every single week, off to bed, up at 4ish, check my purchases out, then down to my local youth club Sunday evenings to show them off to my mates on the turntable. Jim G Posted September 5, 2012 Share Posted September 5, 2012 My one and only attendance at the Torch. The memory has never left me and still remember a ton of records that were played on that visit. Things like Dave Evison with his Eddie Parker bowling shirt also stick in my mind. I went others on coach from Aycliffe that included many who were ( and still are ) devout soul music fans we listned to many of the sounds recorded from that night on a portable Reel to Reel recorder that Les (McLean I think) took with him. That was my first "real" all nighter and without doubt my favourite. Many great soul nights were to follow, but that night at the Torch is still the one that can almost bring a tear to my eye.
