Johnny Roadhouse was a Manchester legend, died April 2009 aged 88. A saxophonist with swing and dance bands.

The shop opened in 1955 on Oxford Road and is still run by his son . Generations of manchester bands were supplied

by the store from the early beat boom to the likes Oasis.

As for a soul connection, it is limited. There are a couple of mentions in Central 1179.

I used to pop in in the early 70s to look through second hand records . It probably would be the place to visit for any band performing at the

Wheel or in the city, who needed equipment, repairs etc.

It is a indication of the respect in which he was held that national newspapers like the Daily Telegraph and Independent published

obituaries.

Mind you, in my day, Sheffield & Manc were 2nd homes for Donny soulboys.
