Sitting in the Park 45 Sales List #2 - Female Soul Artists / Groups

Here are the leftover unsold items from my most recent sales list. There are still quality items left. If you would like to purchase something, please ONLY EMAIL sitpsales@gmail.com and I will hold items and get you a total with shipping to either the US or overseas.

In general I am going to keep the sales private to the email list and only publicly post leftover items after all transactions clear. If you would like to become a member of the sale email list, you can either email me at SITPSales@gmail.com or you can subscribe yourself at https://eepurl.com/lP-S9

I won't spam the list with irrelevant emails and you can unsubscribe yourself using a link at the bottom of any list message. I only try to sell records I actually like, and try highlight oddball / underrecognized cuts. I collect group soul from about 1960-1985, all styles, so I have a wide range of tastes. There probably would in general be an emphasis on sweet soul, but I will try to do differently themed lists.

In the future I am going to try to do shorter but more frequent lists, maybe every 2-3 weeks. It should be easier for people to deal with in terms of having to listen to a large number of unknown items. I also will be able to do more differently themed lists. SOUND CLIPS IN THIS LIST ARE FULL RECORDINGS OF THE ACTUAL RECORDS.

Grading: Grading scale: NM/VG++/VG+/VG/VG-/G+/G/G-/F/P.

I tried to grade more conservatively than the last list. A NM record should be almost perfect, maybe a couple light and tiny scuffs total. A VG++ record might have 2-3 scuffs on each side. A VG record should still have full gloss or almost full gloss with light scuffing or a few marks. A G record should still be decent, maybe scuffy with some loss of gloss. All records should play fine, even G and lower, unless specific problems are noted.

All grading is VISUAL, and I try to spend time noting the specific flaws in each record leading to the given grade. The condition of the label is not included in the grade -- I try to separately describe any flaws in the label (which can make a fairly clean label sound bad if you note lots of tiny things).

Returns: If you get a record and there is a problem, you can return it for a full refund.

Payment: Paypal preferred. My paypal address is boba@panix.com

HERE ARE THE ITEMS FOR SALE

The Thornton Sisters - Watch your step / Big city boy - Bobsan 1000 - $50

Vinyl is VG+, has some slight loss of gloss and some light scuffs. Yellow labels have very light dirt / wear. A-side also has two small very light circular stains on the label.

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/thornton%20sisters%20-%20watch%20your%20step.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/thornton%20sisters%20-%20big%20city%20boy.mp3

New Jersey group known for their legendary 45 on Cuppy (although I think that they deny that it's them) and an obscure earlier 45 on Roulette. Two really nice uptempo girl group cuts, should appeal to northern and girl group fans.

The Gees - It's all over / Love is a beautiful thing - Port 3011 - $40

VG-. Full gloss, moderate scuffing, some marks on each side. Labels are pretty clean but the blue print is fading somehow. It's all readable except a few small places (for example, the address at the bottom of the one side of the label is almost gone).

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/gees%20-%20it's%20all%20over.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/gees%20-%20love%20is%20a%20beautiful%20thing.mp3

A mixed male/female group. I rarely see this for sale and finally picked up an upgrade after years of looking -- this is my old copy. A-side is great midtempo northern with female lead and male backing, super catchy and fingersnappy. B-side is similar but definitely not as good and it has a male lead.

Jackie Ross - Keep your chin up / Love is easy to lose - Brunswick 55325 - $35

Vinyl in the VG- / G+ range, almost full gloss with moderate surface scuffs / scratches (nothing feelable). BB Hole in label. Labels have light edge and ring wear. There is name very lightly written in pen (not immediately apparent) on the "Love is easy to lose" side

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/jackie%20ross%20-%20keep%20your%20chin%20up.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/jackie%20ross%20-%20love%20is%20easy%20to%20lose.mp3

"Keep your chin up" is an all-time classic midtempo northern / girl group cut. Very Chicago sounding and totally excellent. I never played the flip before, it is also pretty nice, just not as catchy.

Denice Chandler - Mama, I wish I stayed at home / I'd believe him - Lock 600 DJ - $45

Vinyl is very clean, VG+ to VG++. White labels have slight dirt rings, the name "Clifton" is written lightly in pen on the upper left corner of the a-side.

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/denice%20chandler%20-%20mama%20i%20wish%20i'd%20stayed%20at%20home.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/denice%20chandler%20-%20i'd%20believe%20him.mp3

Hard to find -- two just okay solo midtempo Chicago sides by Denice Chandler. There's no backing group on either side. This is the first of her three Lock singles, probably the rarest, but the other ones are better. After her Lock records she became a member of Stevie Wonder's backing group Wonderlove and then became a star as Denice Williams.

Rosalind Madison and Orchestra - Don't deceive me / Turn back the hands of time - Revis 1007

VG, full gloss, very light scuffing and a few marks on each side. Black labels are nice, only light wear around the inner edge of the label.

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/rosalind%20madison%20-%20don't%20deceive%20me.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/rosalind%20madison%20-%20turn%20back%20the%20hands%20of%20time.mp3

A-side is a really good deep soul cut. Flip side is not the Tyrone Davis song, it's a midtempo southern soul cut with a beat ... doesn't do anything for me but that's not my genre.

Carol Anderson - You boy / Holding on - Mid-Town 271 - $25

VG-, almost full gloss, light-to-moderate marks / scuffs on each side. Labels have no writing but are slightly dirty with some dirt rings.

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/carol%20anderson%20-%20you%20boy%20-%20mid-town.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/carol%20anderson%20-%20holding%20on.mp3

Two really good detroit midtempo sides, heavy drums on both sides, probably would appeal to funk and other types of collectors that are not as fixated on the northern sound.

Bettye Scott and the Del-Vetts - Good feeling / Down, Down, Down - Teako 747 (Orange Labels) - $30

strong VG. Full gloss, just some light scuffing and a few very light marks on each side. The a-side has more marks than the b-side. Labels are nice, just are slightly ring-wear shaped dirty.

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/bettye%20scott%20and%20the%20del-vetts%20-%20good%20feeling.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/bettye%20scott%20and%20the%20del-vetts%20-%20down%20down%20down.mp3

Awesome groovy early 70s uptempo Chicago cut -- not in demand now but it definitely has the right sound and will be in demand eventually. This group was three sisters who lived in the Cabrini Green projects and who went to Cooley High. This was their only recording. Flip is good too, slightly funkier and more Jackson Five sounding -- there's potential in that side also. Teako is the first label this was released on before One Way.

Faith Hope and Charity - Baby don't take your love / Make love to me - Maxwell 808 - $15

Styrene is NM. Labels have some light wear at the black ring on the edge of the label design.

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/faith%20hope%20and%20charity%20-%20baby%20don't%20take%20your%20love.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/faith%20hope%20and%20charity%20-%20make%20love%20to%20me.mp3

Totally excellent but unappreciated early 70s uptempo northern. Really good and not really known. Flip is a nice, building 70s ballad.

Soul Emotions - It's time for love / Can you feel what I feel - Soul Emotions & Co 422 - $75

A nice VG. A-side is close to VG+, full gloss and a few marks and scuffs. Flip has some slight loss of gloss, and has some more marks. Labels are nice, very slightly dirt / stains. This is the version of the label that has the credits on it (there is another press where the label has pretty much no names on it).

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/soul%20emotions%20-%20it's%20time%20for%20love.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/soul%20emotions%20-%20can%20you%20feel%20what%20i%20feel.mp3

Kiddie soul from New Orleans. I've had some funk DJs ask me about this before so I put this on the list. Very Jackson Five sounding but would work in a 70s set. Flip is more midtempo and the singing is worse (really young kid singing lead) so that side is more of a novelty listen than a record for a DJ.

Rena Faye and the Teddy Bear Co - Thank you baby / Do it - Melron 5015 - $40

weak VG. Full gloss, moderate scuffing on each side. There is a small bump type thing at the edge of the vinyl at one spot. It does not reach the grooves and is only visible on one side. Labels have light to moderate dirt rings. No writing or anything else on them.

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/rena%20faye%20and%20the%20teddy%20bear%20co%20-%20thank%20you%20baby.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/rena%20faye%20and%20the%20teddy%20bear%20co%20-%20do%20it.mp3

Very hard to find Melron cut -- funk on both sides. The a-side sounds okay until about 50 seconds into it when it sort of changes into a country song for 15 seconds. The b-side is good instrumental organ funk though.

Jeanette Williams - Stuff / You gotta come through - Back Beat 601 - $20

Vinyl strong VG to VG+, very glossy with some light marks / scuffs. Very light dish warp. Labels have very light wear.

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/jeanette%20williams%20-%20stuff.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/jeanette%20williams%20-%20you%20gotta%20come%20through.mp3

"Stuff" is good funky soul that was a hit in Chicago. This record was produced by Andre Williams. "You gotta come through" is deep soul. I actually like it a lot, Jeanette has a very strong voice and I like it when the chorus / harmony comes in.

The Majorlettes - Too hot to hold / There ain't enough time - Mercury 73120 DJ - $50

Very clean styrene, VG++ to NM. White labels are nice and bright.

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/majorlettes%20-%20too%20hot%20to%20hold.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/majorlettes%20-%20there%20ain't%20enough%20time.mp3

I don't know anything about the Majorlettes except they obviously have something to do with Major Lance. The record was recorded in Georgia so I don't know if the group is from Chicago or GA (I have a similar issue with the Girls on Memphis actually...). Anyways, "Too hot to hold" is a totally excellent funky psychedelic version of a cut originally done by Lance. The flipside is a really nice midtempo 70s southern sounding thing written by Freddie Terrell. This record rarely turns up.

Barbara and Gwen - Right on (to the street corner) / Take me as I am (don't try to change me) - $40

Styrene is G+, scuffy but still has most gloss, not many actual marks. Plays without styrene burn. Labels have some light ring wear.

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/barbara%20and%20gwen%20-%20right%20on.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/barbara%20and%20gwen%20-%20right%20on.mp3

A-side is a classic Chicago funk cut. Barbara and Gwen Livesey were sisters, both later members of Barbara and the Uniques. Barbara was previously in the Duettes on M-Pac. B-side is okay funky soul.

Patti Jo - Ain't no love lost / Stay away from me - Scepter 12366 - $50

VG. Full gloss, light to moderate scuffs on each side. Colored labels have very light wear.

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/patti%20jo%20-%20ain't%20no%20love%20lost.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/patti%20jo%20-%20stay%20away%20from%20me.mp3

Rare groove / funk singer with two Curtis Mayfield produced singles that have somehow been forgotten by the collecting community. This has a nice groovy funk sound on both sides -- not as good as her Wand single but still good. A-side is darker / rare groove sounding while flip is sort of boring funky soul. Does anyone have any info as to who she was?

Samson and Delilah and the BOSS Six - Living in a world of trouble / Don't leave me here - King James 401 - $40

very strong VG to VG+, slight general wear resulting in a very slight loss of the gloss. Small feelable mark on the "Living" side, a few surface marks on the "Don't" side. Labels are clean.

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/samson%20and%20delilah%20and%20the%20boss%20six%20-%20living%20in%20a%20world%20of%20trouble.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/samson%20and%20delilah%20and%20the%20boxx%20six%20-%20don't%20leave%20me%20here.mp3

This is probably the best of the 900 or so different Samson and Delilah singles that were released. "Living in a world of trouble" is an excellent funk cut. "Don't leave me here" is a nice southern soul type of sound.

Hot Ice - Fire / All of this will slowly die - Turner Records 105 - offers of at least $100

NM vinyl, green labels are very nice, very light wear on a-side

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/hot%20ice%20-%20fire.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/hot%20ice%20-%20all%20of%20this%20will%20slowly%20die.mp3

Very rare record / group out of Philadelphia. I've listened a bunch of times and I can't tell if "Fire" is a really good modern soul cut or really terrible. It's a very catchy disco tune but has some annoying changes. I think I decided that it is a really good cut (love the harmony when they sing "Fire") but that you would have to fade out the last cheesy 45 seconds to enjoy it / DJ with it. "All of this will slowly die" is a good group ballad that would appeal to both sweet soul and deep soul collectors. This is actually the same group as Hot Ice on Morning Glory (the Detroit label) -- that record is much later and the group is a Philly group though.

Gwen McCrae - Lead me on / Like yesterday our love is gone - Columbia 4-45214 (red label stock copy) - $25

Styrene is VG, shiny with light scuffs. Labels have light wear in a few spots. Tiny BB hole in the label.

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/gwen%20mccrae%20-%20lead%20me%20on.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/gwen%20mccrae%20-%20like%20yesterday%20our%20love%20is%20gone.mp3

I'm pretty sure that this is Gwen's first solo single (she previously cut 3 records with her husband as "George and Gwen" on Alston). I tried to check if this was the case and found the wikipedia page about her. It's funny because it's just a bunch of made up info about labels and dates but presented very precisely and authoritatively. Anyways, "Lead me on" is a killer midtempo funky rare groove type of thing, the type of record that Gwen's voice was made for. Flip is an awesome slowly building ballad. Quality record.

Linda Toussaint and the Sterophones - Oh Darling / Don't say no (inst.) - Re-cord 1 - $70

VG++ to NM, very light warp. Blue labels are nice, except the top of the "Don't say no" side has a hard to notice tear (it's still blue, just a little lighter blue)

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/gwen%20mccrae%20-%20like%20yesterday%20our%20love%20is%20gone.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/linda%20toussaint%20-%20don't%20say%20no.mp3

Nice record from New Orleans. "Oh Darling" is nice deep soul. Don't say no is a pretty good groovy funk instrumental.

Toby Freeman and Destin II - Love knows / Very tender moments - Soundtech 3014/3015 - offers of at least $100

strong VG+ vinyl. Labels (cool purple and blue soundtech labels, not the plain light blue like on some other soundtech releases) have very light wear and there is a BB hole.

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/toby%20freeman%20and%20destin%20ii%20-%20love%20knows.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/toby%20freeman%20and%20destin%20ii%20-%20very%20tender%20moments.mp3

Very rare 45 on the Phoenix, AZ custom press Soundtech label. A-side is strange -- it's a track with girls backing but no vocal lead. It sounds like it would be a monster crossover / northern cut if there were a lead vocal. It still might be really good, but I don't know exactly what DJs want. Flip is a nice female sweet soul cut.

Jeannie Reynolds - Unwanted Company / The phone's been jumping all day - Casablanca 834 - $12

VG++, I can see a few small edge marks on the "phone" side. Labels are fine.

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/jeannie%20reynolds%20-%20unwanted%20company.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/jeannie%20reynolds%20-%20the%20phone's%20been%20jumping%20all%20day.mp3

Awesome 2-sider, her best record in my opinion. "Unwanted company" is an awesome slow, mellow, rare groove type cut; one of the two writers is Fred Bridges of the Brothers of Soul. "The phone's been jumping" is more uptempo with a stronger beat, has a sort of 70s Jackson Five bubblegum sound.

Betty LaVette - Thank you for loving me / You made a believer out of me - Epic 8-50143 (stock copy with promotional stamp) - $75

nice VG+ styrene. Labels have light wear and there is a light promotional stamp on the a-side.

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/bettye%20lavette%20-%20thank%20you%20for%20loving%20me.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/bettye%20lavette%20-%20you%20made%20a%20believer%20out%20of%20me.mp3

Two really nice mellow southern sounding modern soul cuts. Both sides have a similar tempo but the A-side is a little slower and more laid back. "You made a believer" is a classic modern soul cut.

Mary Wells - I found what I wanted / I see a future in you - Reprise 1031 - $20

Styrene is strong VG to VG+, light scuffs only. Labels are clean with small initials "R.H." written in pen on the b-side.

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/mary%20wells%20-%20i%20found%20what%20i%20wanted.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/mary%20wells%20-%20i%20see%20a%20future%20in%20you.mp3

Wells' first Reprise single from 1971. Her reprise singles are very hard to find as two-sided stock copies. A-side is a decent mid-to-uptempo southern soul type of sound. I like the b-side better, also a midtempo southern type of sound.

Gina Hill - Rich man's toy / Help me solve this problem - Jill 001 - $30

NM vinyl, perfect labels

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/gina%20hill%20-%20rich%20man's%20toy%20-%20jill.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/gina%20hill%20-%20help%20me%20solve%20this%20problem.mp3

A-side is nice sounding southern / deep soul. Since it's not really my genre I can't tell you how good it is, it just sounds okay to me... The flip is a totally excellent groovy midtempo cut with a beat.

Tender Touch - Can I see you tomorrow / You were never mine to begin with - Paramount 0252 - $30

Styrene is clean, VG++. Labels are pretty nice, "can I see you" has a light mark and very slight edge wear."You were never mine" side has some light staining and 4 x's in pen and a small edge wear spot in one place.

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/tender%20touch%20-%20can%20i%20see%20you%20tomorrow.mp3

https://www.sittinginthepark.com/sales/7-2012/tender%20touch%20-%20you%20were%20never%20mine%20to%20begin%20with.mp3

This is actually the Krystal Generation. "You were never mine" is the same recording that came out previously on the CMC label. That side is a nice midtempo 70s cut. "Can I see you tomorrow" is the really good side, though, a really excellent dark sounding 70s ballad.

yeah actually it wouldn't have still been on the leftover list but I was holding it for someone for a long time and he decided not to buy after everything was done. But it's a good record for someone to snag here.
