Pete S Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 (edited) Don't know if you remember when I originally did this in 2008, it was pretty well received as I added old radio jingles and countdowns etc, anyway I thought they were all lost but I found them earlier on a site called Podbean, anyway I thought I may as well upload them to mixcloud over the next few days, it's not meant to be serious so no point analysing it, it's just to listen to... https://www.mixcloud....time-100-to-81/ IT GETS LONELY SITTING HERE AT HOME GAZING OUT OF THE WINDOW SO TO KILL SOME TIME I DECIDED TO GET ALL MY OLD FAVOURITE RECORDS OUT AND SEE IF I COULD PUT THEM IN SOME ORDER OF FAVOURITISM. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A VERY DIFFICULT TASK AS THERE ARE SO MANY ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT NORTHERN SOUL RECORDS TO CHOOSE FROM - BUT I'VE HAD A GO AND COME UP WITH A TOP 100. ANYWAY, I THOUGHT I COULD TURN THESE INTO A 4 OR 5 EPISODE SERIES OF PODCASTS AND IT MIGHT BE FUN FOR PEOPLE TO LISTEN IN AND MAYBE GUESS WHAT'S COMING NEXT, WHAT'S IN THE TOP 10, AND HOW SHIT MY TASTE IN MUSIC IS. SO I DID IT, AND THE FIRST 20 TRACKS ARE NOW AVAILABLE TO LISTEN TO AS A PODCAST. REMEMBER, IT'S JUST A BIT OF FUN, THEY ARE JUST MY FAVOURITE RECORDS, IT'S NOT MEANT TO BE SOME KIND OF OFFICIAL CHART! I ALSO ADDED A FEW 60'S RADIO JINGLES AND COUNTDOWN NUMBERS TOWARDS THE END. PLEASE, ENJOY! NUMBERS 100 TO 81 (p.s. I only used records I had on vinyl at the time, no cd tracks etc so loads were missed out) 100 RAY CHARLES - I DON'T NEED NO DOCTOR (ABC) 99 RITA & THE TIARAS - GONE WITH THE WIND IS MY LOVE (DORE) 98 STEMMONS EXPRESS - WOMAN LOVE THIEF (KARMA) 97 LESLIE UGGAMS - DON'T YOU EVEN CARE (ATLANTIC) 96 SOUL BROTHERS INC. - PYRAMID (GOLDEN EYE) 95 REPARATA & THE DELRONS - PANIC (MALA) 94 SAXIE RUSSELL - PSYCHEDELIC SOUL (THOMAS) 93 MARION STEWART - I MUST BE LOSING YOU (R RECORDS) 92 TOBI LEGEND - TIME WILL PASS YOU BY (MALA) 91 RUFUS LUMLEY - STRONGER THAN ME (RCA) 90 JOE JAMA - MY LIFE (OPTIMUM) 89 POOKIE HUDSON - THIS GETS TO ME (JAMIE) 88 THE HIGH KEYS - LIVING A LIE (VERVE) 87 THE EMBERS - WATCH OUT GIRL (MGM) 86 CHECKERBOARD SQUARES - DOUBLE COOKIN' (VILLA) 85 THE DYNAMICS - I NEED YOUR LOVE (RCA) 84 COURT DAVIS - TRY TO THINK WHAT YOU'RE DOING (EAST COAST) 83 LILLIE BRYANT - MEET ME HALFWAY (TAY-STER) 82 EMANUEL LASKEY - I'M A PEACE LOVING MAN (THELMA) 81 EDDIE DAY & THE FOUR BARS - GUESS WHO LOVES YOU (SHRINE) Edited July 27, 2012 by Pete S
Guest GARV Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 I have all 4 of these on my iPod...................... still listen to em when in the van. Did`t you mail them out originally? , anyway, proper Sunday evening top forty style countdown.

Did`t you mail them out originally? , anyway, proper Sunday evening top forty style countdown. I might have mailed them to people if they asked me but I never sold / distributed / produced them on cd's Garv, it was just on that podcast site. Don't know if you remember but it inspired Rich Chorley to poll everyone about their top 5 sounds and he was working on producing the definitive top 100 until he fell seriously ill. Shame it never got completed.
Mal C Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Blimey that number 84, has drive me to dispare, the one time it came up for sale recently, I did not have the money... GOD DAMM its a good one..reminds me of the famous Ted Massey tapes from the Old Vic, dark rainy nights in Wolverhampton lit with yellow street lamps and the entrance at the back of the car park... Pep's Mrs on the door... kinda what Northern soul is... Mal.C

Mal.C My best memory of that one (Court Davis) was buying it off a UK pop dealers auction list where he had it described as a "Gene Pitney soundalike", strange record to find in the UK.
Benji Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Pete, is the old Podbean site still accessible? Would like to put them on my iPod.
Pete S Posted July 24, 2012 Author Posted July 24, 2012 Pete, is the old Podbean site still accessible? Would like to put them on my iPod. It is, and the download links are all still working. I've been thinking, I was looking through my old records this morning and I would think that almost every chart place would change and at least 20 records would come in to replace ones I'm fed up with. I'd still have to stick to the rule of only including records I have on vinyl though, be it original or reissue. See if this link works Benji https://planetrecords.podbean.com/
Benji Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Thanks Pete, will give it a try tonight. I was a subscriber of your Podbean casts but don't recall downloading your oldies count down ones....

Yeah I used to love doing those mix compilations but I kept getting complaints from people either wanting reggae or soul, not usually both, and only a few brave souls wanting the punk and beat stuff...though when I did podcast machine, I put some crackers up on there - all now sadly lost

Guest GARV Posted July 27, 2012 Posted July 27, 2012 Not related to this but do you remember those bluebeat /ska/Reggae pods you did a few years ago. I was working with a young guy from Miami, his father is West Indian & his mother is from Maristus .......anyway, he was in the van one day & asked if he could connect the Ipod & listen to some tunes, no problem..... after 5 mins of, my bitch , my whoe & putting a cap in someone`s ass i`d had enough. Do you have any proper music on this feckin thing?, because if we are to work together you can forget this shite. So we took a detour to my place & he downloaded a load of stuff & your pods. He sent them to the states & related this story to me the following week His brother downloaded them & made a cd out of the Ska/reggae stuff & gave it to his dad , apparently he moved the big speakers onto the front yard & took a 12 pack from the fridge, dressed in shorts , string vest & sandals, he rolled a BIG fat number & started to boogie on the front lawn. All they could hear was " shiiiiiiiit maaaaan.......... i love thiiiiiiis shiiiiit Your pods made an old Jamaican very happy.
