Guest ShaneH Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 this is something that i have noticed for many years. you very rarely see a big name DJ on the dancefloor. would the music being played be more dancefloor friendly if the DJ's were dancers too? i am only being light-hearted here so i dont expect any logical answers Shane
Guest vinylvixen Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Shane - I dance behind the decks and in front of them.............but then, I'm not a big name dj and you're just prodding the wasp's nest with a sharp stick You already know the answer.....Jothis is something that i have noticed for many years. you very rarely see a big name DJ on the dancefloor. would the music being played be more dancefloor friendly if the DJ's were dancers too? i am only being light-hearted here so i dont expect any logical answers Shane

Guest Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 (edited) Does Butch have a dodgy knee? I know Mick H has a bad foot from dropping his wallet last year Come on DJ's - lets see you dance Shane Mick H dances Kenny Burrell is always dancing, which I think is lovely to see, nice to watch a 'top' DJ enjoying someone elses set Andy Dyson doesn't dance but thats only because he doesn't have the time, he is way too busy setting off stink bombs Edited January 6, 2006 by KarenC

Guest Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 well you can prove your claims next week at ponds forge Shane Does Butch have a dodgy knee? I know Mick H has a bad foot from dropping his wallet last year Come on DJ's - lets see you dance Shane Have had this discussion with Butch... Apparantly he stopped dancing once Pete Winciara (don't know how to spell it) stopped Djing. Have witnessed him dancing at Cleethorpes back in 97 when him and his buddies had some of my rocket fuel!!! Mick Smith dances to the Utopians. Sam leaps around behind the decks - in a crazy jack-in-the-box type manner.... And actually Shane I don't recall seeing you dance... You seem to wander around alot though? Are you gonna be in Hudds tomorrow? Perhaps you can demonstrate your dancing skills then. K x
Val (Chunky) Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Shane if you have ever seen the DJ dancing competion at Cleethorpes Weekenders you'll perhaps know why.

Guest Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Think you mean Jim Wensiora he had the best collection in the UK mid 80's had a lot of exclusives Thats it Teddy! For a failing memory like mine I think I did quite well... ha ha ha.
Soulsmith Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Said before, bt maybe worth mentioning again. "A dancers ability varies in inverse proportion to the size of his record collection"
Guest Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 I would also like to see more dj`s dancing. No one is born a dj so presumably they were all punters once, but on the other hand maybe they have always been obsessive chin stroking geeks
Guest Netspeaky Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 I'm Both, will always dance if it's a good record, couldn't give a toss if I'm the only one dancing either. if fact it's better no one to get in my way.
soulsalmon Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Keb,Rob,Guy,Rodger,Colin Law and Tony Clayton all used to give it big licks on the dance floor. Theydidnt call him the stomping vicar for nowt

Reg Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Is that why they call Mark the 'Leg Injury' Mark Bicknell? ......that's quite funny actually
Guest Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 i was once called the octopus on the dancefloor seems they all thought i had 8 left feet never go near the floor now unless being chased by mischief with the soul baton

Dave Rimmer Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 As a previous winner of the DJ Dancing competition at Cleethorpes (and you can examine the cup, my name is inscribed there) you'll understand why I don't dance more often. In fact I have been known to dance on the Sunday night at Cleethorpes, admittedly in one direction because I was drunk and couldn't work out how to go back the other way if you know what I mean.

Iancsloft Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 I love dancin many a time i,ve left a venue with me feet blistered, couple years ago in Barnoldswick I danced straight through Tim Brown & Gingers spot while wearing pair of Doc Martins sandles christ I could harldly walk next day my feet where mashed, not a good combination Doc Martins --16 Bottles of Bud and two dj,s with plenty good tunes

Dave you know it was a toss up between you and that Nice chap Mr C and anyway Ady has no chance of winning his own competition at Cleethorpes especially when they let me loose in the middle bending the rules,or even making them up as I go had a few moans about that and always swayed by the crowd And you know you are only swayed one way by the smell of the bar(or nearest pint) will have to change the comp this year to something more sane like ?reccomendations please all will be thoroughly discussed before next Cleethorpes. Doug
Jumpinjoan Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Oh just a quick edit...Joan of course-she's the best really....will let Paul be the best male Awhh ... thanks kid ..... don't know about the DJ bit though ...... just a dancer ...... Mandy Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 if they never get a set anywhere, then technically they don't dj so technically they aren't dj's personally wouldn't employ a dj who turns up for his set and buggers off after it! they should at least show a little commitment to the event IMO I've seen a couple of "big DJs" turn up at the last minute .. DJ ... collect their fee.. then bugger off ... so it is done .. one of these was a "BIG NAMED DJ" who turned up 2 mins before his spot at Rangers with 6 guests ( who all got in free) and then all left 2 mins after his spot .. which incidentally was shite
