Patto Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) Always think that the greatest Northern Soul tracks are the ones with Brill intros that call you to dancefloor action.Off the top of my head Four Perfections--I'm Not Strong Enough Dee Dee Sharp---What Kind of Lady Younghearts--A Little Togetherness Precisions---If This Is Love Jades---I'm Where Its At and who can forget the Horn intro to Nobody But Me--Human Beinz Edited July 17, 2012 by Patto
Diddy Morgan Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) hah takes me back that intro of the nomads , loved it and always went up to ask richard to play it as if it wasnt gonna hit the deck anyway !! . at that time djs used to play the new ones to the crowd twice in a set which didnt bother anyone at all !! Edited July 17, 2012 by diddy morgan

Patto Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 So many great ones the intros are often the difference between a good Northern Soul Record and one that gains legendary status.Another two i love are both by Edward Hamilton & the Arabians, the explosive drums intro to I'M GONNA LOVE LOVE YOU,and the great lead into BABY DON'T YOU WEEP
Benji Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Carl Henderson "that girl" on Renfro has a great intro if i remember correctly. Unfortunately it's just the intro that is great.
Winnie :-) Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Darrell Banks - Our Love Is In The Pocket (best intro ever imo) Duke Browner - Crying Over You Salvadors Brice Coefield - Aint That Right Duke Browner for me as well plus tightrope - Inez and Charlie Foxx You've been gone to long - Ann Sexton at the top of the stairs - Collins and Collins Umpteen others ;)

Chas Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Herb Ward"strange change"three notes in and the hairs are up. 1
Grayman45 Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Majestics - I Love Her So Much It Hurts I always liked Harold Melvin's Get Out, but always makes for a few awkward moments on the dance floor.
Harry Crosby Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Ive said it before, and i`ll say it again, this one drags you from your chair, or stops you in mid conversation, whereaver you hear it. 2
Chalky Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 mello souls Mello Souls, just about one of the best intro to a Northern Soul dancer ever IMO. Proper aggro or ampethesoul or whatever you wanna call it. In the days when I could that intro always had me running to the dance floor. 1
grant Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 junior mccants - try me for a new love also quite like the intro on The Present H Shapiro - Stop....
Guest Byrney Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Both you and Grant bet me to it. The guitar intro was and still is for me as good as an alarm to hit the floor. Then the record just explodes Proper Aggro Northern Soul mate. Mello Souls, just about one of the best intro to a Northern Soul dancer ever IMO. Proper aggro or ampethesoul or whatever you wanna call it. In the days when I could that intro always had me running to the dance floor.
Garethx Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Speaking of the Mello Souls and bearing in mind the current vogue for 'funky-soul' or 'soully-funk' how about this long-standing deep funk oldie:
MrsWoodsrules Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 From the old days, Constuction, Hey, Little Way Out Girl. Stuff I'm listening to these days, for a great intro, Brook Brothers, Looking For A Woman, the start is just so cool IMO. Aid.
MrsWoodsrules Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 Don't know if already been mentioned but Ernest Mosely, Stubbern Heart, great opening notes. For an opening to a slow one I like Tony Clarke, Wrong Man & for just a classic Northern tune the Shane Martin I need you takes some beating. Aid
Guest micksoul Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 (edited) Mary Love/Lay this burden down Willie Tee/Walking up a one way street The Carstairs/ It really hurts me girl... three off the top of my head that i love Edited July 18, 2012 by micksoul
