Was that released on King Records, as well? I have only seen it on Federal 12506. I know that a LOT of Federal and DeLuxe recordings were re-released on King in later years. But I've not seen one of this record, nor have I seen it on any discography of the label.

I've got the record, but, unfortunately, I don't have access to my 45s within the next several weeks. I hope someone else can scan the sides for you.

Thanks Rob, don't worry I'll need it in the next day or so, it's not crucial. Would you have the second Mary Johnson on Foxy 'Going Home' or either of the Ideals on Paso? And while I'm on Richard Stamz labels howabout Robert and the Rocking Robins on Foxy too?

Cheers

Hi Simon,

Mr Rounce my JA label expert next door says it could be orig or a boot of an orig or a boot done in Jamaica. We'd love to see a scan to ascertain what it is; very interesting thanks. I'm not sure which you mean on Foxy, which artist?

Cheers

I have the Mary Johnson on Foxy, and I have one of The Ideals records on Paso Records. I also have a lot of other Richard Stamz productions on other labels, including on ABC, and several miniscule, one-shot Chicago labels. But, as I stated above, it will be about 4 weeks until I can get to them.

That'd be great Rob, we're doing a project on him and the one-offs sound very interesting. I'll let you know what we've got and what we need.

Mary Johnson had 45s on Queen, Federal, and Foxy. The Ideals on Paso are the same group as on Cortland, the original 5 member group. Obviously Harold Burrage had records on Foxy and Paso. All Chicago groups.

One other group Stamz produced was Ze Majestics, they had two 45s. One on Fox (a really nice doowop called "Bobbi Ann", although that was the b-side) and an R&B cut that originally came out on the Sign label and that was picked up by ABC. Ze Majestics are pretty much exactly the same group that became the Trends (there was also a female member who I think was also on at least one of the Smash side but she left the group).

I have all these records btw.

I drove Stamz around the south side one time. It was crazy since he had been in Chicago since there had been the stockyards there. At every place he pointed out what used to be there. The he started to tell some story about partying with some guy and he couldn't remember his name, he was like "the guy who could run really fast." I said "Jesse Owens?" and he said yes. I can't believe I got told a story from someone about partying with Jesse Owens.

Bob that's fantastic and a first hand experience of the guy too. We'd be super interested in any of the items you mentioned. I'll collate what we've got, what we need and send it to you and Robb.

Any chance of sending that You Have My Blessings scan today?

Big Thanks

Ady

my scanner is broken and puts blue lines on everything. do you want a scan with blue lines? I can also take a photo (my photography skills are possibly worse though).

If it's not inconvenient try a photo, just the label, if it doesn't look too good don't send it, I've got another one that can get here though a bit late now.

Thanks

Ady

Also, if you care, I have two photos of Sonny Thompson that I scanned from Bob Stallworth. Someone had rescued what looked like Sonny's personal collection of promo stuff and papers from a dumpster and given them to Bob. There are a bunch of king / federal artists but no Mary Johnson for some reason.

Yes please to any of those, we're always working on King stuff so there'll be plenty of opportunities to use them. I'll send you a list of the artists on the next ballads CD. Thanks for the photo, it's good but the scan from Joe is more usable for the booklet. Ady

Simon,

We didn't understand the last part of your posting where you wrote;

"also you mentioned the foxy lable do you need that thing called your love makes me lonely ?"

Could you elaborate please. What's this Foxy record you're referring to called 'Your Love Makes Me Lonely'?

Hi Simon,

Thanks for getting back so quickly.

It's Ady that's asking for the scans but I'm not sure if he wants this one.

He might do though, pending the results of this enquiry.

I'm the one who's asking about that record on Foxy, as I have no record of that title in my Foxy label discography. Having said that, I only started compiling it a week or two ago.

Who's it by?

Denbo.

are you sure you're not thinking of the chandlers on col-soul? it's yellow and the foxy label is also yellow...

That's why I'm asking Bob, I'm sure Simon is confused. Hardly surprising, considering his records are flung far and wide. But I hope he's right, would be interesting to add a new one to my Foxy label discography.

Whilst we're on the subject, you don't happen to have a Foxy label discography of your own do you? I'd love to fill a few gaps in mine.
