Tomangoes Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Picking up on an events thread, what are the worst records ever played, and who put the dirty deed on that turntable for the first time. Own up you DJ's, who got Tim Tam's 'wait a minute' breaking first. Did they all come from Wigan?? Ed
Markw Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Tim Tam & The Turn Ons? A piece of sh*te but a venerable classic compared to the likes of Bobby Day "pretty girl next door" and numerous others of that ilk. Oh no, here we go again!!
Tomangoes Posted September 8, 2004 Author Posted September 8, 2004 Yes there are a few 'moments of madness' but which DJ's had it first. Those blighters are quick to broadcast who played the 'cheatin kind' discoveries, but go AWOL on the 'S***E ones.
Tomangoes Posted September 8, 2004 Author Posted September 8, 2004 How can you dance to Tim Tam? Top of the pops stily. The DJ must have heard it first, let them confess. Ed
Simon T Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Picking up on an events thread, what are the worst records ever played, and who put the dirty deed on that turntable for the first time. Own up you DJ's, who got Tim Tam's 'wait a minute' breaking first. Did they all come from Wigan?? Ed 'Wait A Minute' sold 30,000 copies in its first week of release according to this site www.keener13.com/timtam.asp Perhaps they all emigrated to Wigan?
Guest Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Going out on a limb here but you want sh*te? Barbara Mills - Queen Of Fools. Oh my God what a pile of crap. Don't know who discovered this and don't really care to be honest but it's terrible. What's it worth? Who cares? If I won the lottery I'd buy up every copy I could find and snap them. Do you think I've understated my dislike of this record or should I make my case firmer?
Little-stevie Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Queen of fools is real soul when you hear that tune ''9 times out of ten''Muriel Day...beat that....i posted it below on the topic of tunes that make you smile every time you hear them..
Guest Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Smile because you like what you hear or smile because you're delighted you don't have it? How about The Newbeats - Bread & Butter?
Tomangoes Posted September 8, 2004 Author Posted September 8, 2004 Well this topic could develop to what was the worst record that had the best sales but it could be even worse it it turns out Murial Day sold more than 30,000 in its first week. Tony Blackburn will be re-releasing 'anything' if he reads this. Ed
Geoff Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 As I never went to Wigan I only heard Nine times out of ten comparatively recently when a friend sent me an RA of it. Couldn't believe it. Indifferent Eurovision stuff. how could it be played at a northern night. We all may have laughed about the Gap Band at the Plinston dance competition, but at least I'd call that a soul record, probably get shot for saying that but you know what I mean. And people moan about Modern soul records. I suppose not going to Wigan I shouldn't comment but it does surprise me that stuff like that was played. What year would that have been?
TheBigO Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 We all may have laughed about the Gap Band at the Plinston dance competition, but at least I'd call that a soul record, probably get shot for saying that but you know what I mean. You mean people WERE laughing for real?!? Mind you, this has given me a few ideas for next years comp :-)
Little-stevie Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 large white country singer from texas i think...I would love to know who broke(not over the head) this tune???? I bought it on Leeds market aged 16..found it in a old box last year and sold it in a job lot on ebay...
Guest micksmith Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 QUEEN OF FOOLS-ALL TIME CLASSIC. TTIM TAM-A MUST FOR EVERY DETROIT COLLECTOR.
TheBigO Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Mick's right, Queen of Fools an all time classic and much sought after in the old days on UK label, Tim Tam stomping Detroit whilst not everyones cup of tea in these 'enlightend' times on the scene, no one can deny they were played and welcomed in the past. Now if we're talking doddgy toons, omitting those recent Levine spins, there is always the Cartoon Candy carnival, Brotherhood of Man to start....
Guest Trevski Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Honestly guys, not ALL the crap was played at Wigan! What about Staffords "Peanut duck" and my 'favourite' piece of recently played S***E, Gerri Grainger "Just tell him Jane said hello"!!
stomper45 Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 interesting their is a link in some of the replies here, Larry Henley lead singer of the Newbeats is Barbara Mills brother, both recorded on Hickory, Nashville TX. Isnt QOF the most booted record with various copies made, learnt mine was a boot from JM guide. cant believe B&B was played out? woz it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest biggray1 Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Gary bleeding Lewis and his Playboys! crap the wors played at wigan and everwhere else!
davidwapples Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 that gerri granger just tell him jane said hello is rubbish , just sold one in a collection of 13 sounds origs and boots on ebay for 25 quid.cant believe someone played this out i nominate futures party time man as a rescent play that i hate but my ultimate hate is that cartoon candy carnival instrumental thing i bought it cos its so bad for 2 quid
MarkWhiteley Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 No no. The Futures is a lovely record! One of my all time faves in fact, and not a recent play at all... NOTE: If you're gonna buy one, keep away from eBay seller, scoot555o_1 - the b**tards'll send you a UK boot (after using a pic of an original in ad), then send hate mail when you ask what happened... B**tards...
Mattbolton Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Bok to Bach?! Fathers Angels?! I bet they spent a whole year in the confessional box after cutting that poppy slice of Dog Sh*t.
Jason S Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 No no. B**tards... Like this fucker, you mean, Billy? https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=4033556329 My eyesight may be failing me, but f***, even I can see that A. It's not the original and B. The seller has made no mention of this slightly potent fact. Ok, so the seller should do their research, but sorry, what a wanker!
Craig W Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Holly St. James - Thats not love - Pure pop pap , and unbearable when everyone claps on the quiet bit . Guaranteed dancefloor filler. This is not northern soul!
Guest LeoLyxxx Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Futures "party time man" Fluffy Falana "my little cottage" yes everybody is of course free to criticize ;-) Harvey "any way you wanta" any song with the line "sookie sookie" should be forbidden IMVHO best Leo
tone5446 Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 For some odd reason I hate Kiss my love goodbye - Bettye Swann. I will have to own up and confess that I did play some right crap during those far off days at Yate, but as I was blocked at the time I couldn't help myself (honest)
Tony Smith Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 but as I was blocked at the time I couldn't help myself (honest) Amazing how great things can sound like that!.....
Guest Andy BB Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Seven Day Fool - Etta James When I hang up my loafers and inevitably go downstairs they can save a fortune on their heating bill by not bothering with the fire and brimstone and just grafting some headphones onto me playing this for eternity. Argghh! Disagree on Barbara Mills though, taken for what it is it's a great record.
TheBigO Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 bobby vee - cross my heart - liberty Oi, NO! My dad went to school with Bobby Vee
Haydn Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 When the Casino was flooded from every direction with styles of sounds, I am sure some people may have turned their nose up at them, but only the ones that were "in the know". I know many a guy whose spirit was dampened upon reaching the Casino to find all sorts of "pap" played but this only fueled their desire to find the good sounds. With every bad (as in bad, not baaad!) sound there are another ten to be found that will prove their worth. Thus the adventure in finding something that has been missed or not even found. Ho hum, where's my copy of Gene Toones!!!!!! Not H
Dayo Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Going out on a limb here but you want sh*te? Barbara Mills - Queen Of Fools. Oh my God what a pile of crap. Totally agree! Remember seeing this advertised in B&S along with Cracked up over you and Sounds of Lane (another pile of shit) - basically couldn't wait to hear this "legendary sound". What a disappointment. Almost as big a downer as hearing "One wonderful moment" for the first time; although that one has grown on me, for no accountable reason.
Guest Trevski Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 that gerri granger just tell him jane said hello is rubbish , just sold one in a collection of 13 sounds origs and boots on ebay for 25 quid.cant believe someone played this out It's true, and unfortunatly, it was the much respected Carl Willingham! Played it at York last week, altho' I must add, that it was the only crap record in an otherwise immaculate set. But hey, how can you play that alongside the Passions and "teardrops" ??
Dave Abbott Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 BLANCHE CARTER - HALOS ARE FOR ANGELS PILE OF POOH
Guest Ferrett Posted September 12, 2004 Posted September 12, 2004 May be somewhat controversial but personal hates for me are:- Village of Tears - Benzine Believe it or Not - Nabay Fascinating Girl - George Lemons Say something nice to me - Bobby Kline Just a boys dream - Phonetics When I'm on good form, there's not many records that will stop me dancing but these are five that defiantely will. Still, it gives the wife chance to force feed me with water before I disappear back on to the dancefloor for another two hours of profuse sweating!! I suppose I should be thankful for the break!! Yes, I know they've got a combined value running into several thousands of pounds but it don't make them good records!!! IMO!! :-)))))

mischief Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 Smile because you like what you hear or smile because you're delighted you don't have it? How about The Newbeats - Bread & Butter? Laughing out so loud............... I have a picture cover of that somewhere.......reissued when Little thief used it on a tv advert... only kept it as the cover makes me laugh more than the record (honest)......... A picture of a couple of slices of bread and butter, with that really cheap bright yellow butter put on with a pallet knife really yellow and thick.. and on the other side a waitress in a little thief restaurant... She must have been so proud of herself..
