i think colins trying to announce hes finally joined the soul police.

best not mention the time he cleared the floor with gayle adams then :shhh:wink.gif .

Well you mention it almost every other post laugh.gif

And I stand by it:- brilliant, emotive, uplifting record. First time it was ever played at Bisley as far as I'm aware. Trouble is, I'm a man way ahead of my time & they just weren't ready for me :D

Good to see you back on here Wayne :D

the last hour at Stoke was practically all white soul! at least that's what it sounded. and the second last song of the night was I Dont Wanna Discuss It. Even Little Richard doesnt like that tune, it's awful

and there was some Mitch Ryder as well..........

:shhh:

Watched 3 ex -Wigan jocks treble decking a few years ago at Fleet. Managed to come up with Mitch Ryder, I was shocked. Case of too many DJs spoil the night!

Posted

OK, so wouldn't an inquest be in order for the following, in that case?

Detroit Soul - All Of My Life

Billy Storm - Please Don't Mention Her Name

Seven Souls - I Still Love You (OK, just half an inquest then)

Rufus Lumley - I'm Standing

Rock Candy - Alone With No Love

Lada Edmund Jr. - The Larue

The Tempests - Someday

.........given more thought, I could go on much longer!!! :shhh:

Nah, skip the inquest - takes too long.

Hang the DJ - discuss it later.

what was more shocking is that it seemed like it was only me who was clapping to it. is it so underplayed now that people cant remeber where to clap? and FYI i hadnt heard this out for about 10 years!

Yes Dave but did you clap chopping hands style or just in the usual way?

Changed his story now! Somebody wound up Tim telling him that the record had already been played once. Tim apologised, mate heard the apology. Not quite the same is it? Never let facts get in the way of a good story.

Good to see the main culprits coming forward though - Dave & Janine.....take a bow.

Col.

If you need a copy, get down to Alan's shop, apparently he's still selling it as a new release

========

It was definitely played twice wink.gif But as said already, it was a party :shhh:

Yep did get played twice first time was earlier on before Tim turned up. Remember as commented on it being played the first time.. so to hear it again it stood out

Would Tim have played it though, if he had known that it had been played once before. I don't think so, as he made a brief apology. Which is a nice thing to do.

If DJs (esp ones at Top 500 oldies events) wrote down what they played, then its gives the following DJ the option of whether to play it or not.

Couldn't they just tick them off in the book? :shhh: Not that I have anything against the top 500, would dance to most of them, but as someone told me the other day, "You'd dance to the theme of the 10 O'Clock news" shades.gif:D

I agree, funny, nobody seems to say anything about what is played sunday night at cleethorpes and that is party night with a lot of so called 'club soul'

Get a grip people, it was a laugh, fun, remember the thing we all started going out for in the first place biggrin.gif

ps Wendy, I can honestly only remember hearing it the once :D

I just love the last night at cleethorpes, after selling records all weekend, I just love getting pissed and dancing my head to the club classics, it's time to party. :shhh: Listen to lots of quality in the van in-between session so best of both worlds. shades.gif

Just think none of this would have happened if Janine & Dave had actually turned up on time.

Try setting off a bit earlier shades.gif

We had to wait till 9.30pm for a taxi to kings hall :shhh:

If dancing to the 10 O'Clock news ever became popular, it would only be a matter of time before somebody told you the 2.30pm from Grampian News was much better.

Noticed that ITV news channel on sky ceased broadcasting on 31.12.05, that will be collectable now.

Always makes me laugh when people complain about golden oldies like this.. yet always the floor is full of shuffling feet, clapping hands and the words can be heard by all those singing the whole song till the end :(

Posted

Im guilty off chopping hand clapping to this classic :-)

Yes the floor is full at oldies nights with dazed & confused people, unfortunately most of them are looking for the cloak-room.

I was saving this ultra rare stomper to annoy Kenny on another topic but now seems appropriate.

White demo, any offers? :(

That's the way to do it Janine!! Not sure if that was just a Medway or a mod thing......

Is this some kind of mod line dancing thing Andy?

Whatever happened to the individualists?

Just got off the phone to a mate who went to Stoke on New Years Eve

He stated that "Ghost In My House" was played by 2 different DJs on the night

Please tell that didn't happen......

Got spins at Wigan I think, which tells a story. Probably sandwiched in between Tony Blackburn and The Who. Never a northern record imo, more of an old mod sound.

Think that was all banned circa 1984

That explains it all Col.

Originally a Mecca sound pre Wigan days, but picked up at Wigan 3 years before Tony Blackburn and 7 years before the "Mod" revival. Originally released about 3 years after the original mod era.

Bona Fide, oldie perhaps suffered because it got in the pop charts a la Sweetest Feeling, Hey girl Don't Bother Me, Why Don't I run Away From You etc.

Well impressed with your Wigan sounds chronology Paul  Was trying to imply that white shite would be in the mix with some of the dubious tunes played there. As for the mods I was thinking more eighties than sixties. I remember it being played to death at Triad (club round here) alonside things like Traffic paper sun. I think that's what's probably jaundiced my view. Though I do still like the intro ...

Dont think anybody as mentioned the Bside, why awesome and some,"lets go somewere",if somebody`s mentioned it,sorry.... ranting_1.gif

Steve, this is not going to be any fun unless you go back to being argumentative.

"Everyone started getting interested in northern soul records then. Motown issued There's A Ghost In My House.

Who played it originally?

Yours truly I'm afraid. I got it out of my Motown collection. There were a couple of rare Motown records we played: the Dalton Boys I've Been Cheated, R Dean Taylor. We hadn't discovered the Frank Wilson record at that stage - I knew it existed but no-one could get hold of it - and the Isley Brothers' Tell Me It's Just A Rumour. In the Tony Jebb early period of the Highland Rooms, they had all been northern soul records. R Dean Taylor, really, is a nasty white pop record on Motown, I suppose I should be ashamed of it. Not really, it's a great record.

But it doesn't sound black."

Well I know I enjoyed dancing to it on NYE and so did all the other people who packed the floor to dance to it.......... top tune for a party. Of course I could always blame all this on Roger Stewart since it was him who bought me a bottle of Bolly for Christmas which I in turn drank before going to the do and was pretty wasted all night LOL

I've got 2 copies of the album, albeit I don't know why I should ever want two.

Like a lot of other stuff it gets slated whenever it's mentioned.

Personally, it brings back unsurpassed memories of those magical 70's.

Am I the only one that finds this thread very odd? If you can't play out and out party tunes on the biggest party night of the year when can you? Surely on those nights it's all about the cheese

Smacks of post Chrimbo Bah Humbug to me :P

yes i found it a bit odd too ................. my first reaction (without trying to insult anyone) was "get a life". if you can't play an big fat oldie like that on nye without criticism i think its a little sad. just my very humble opinion of course ... and i love to hear the well known stuff anyway.
