Col, and why not, big party night - play big party records - maybe once would have been enough though. Alan

Soulsmith Posted January 4, 2006 Author Posted January 4, 2006 (edited) Only played once, and by request from me LOL Tim Brown played it My source is obviously rubbish.........going to phone him right now! Edited January 4, 2006 by Soulsmith
Simsy Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Took me year's to find out R.Dean was singing "sitting in my easy chair, I feel your fingers running through my hair". As for it's mainstream-ness Col, I think it was pressed on Stardust a few years back. (So I heard)
Guest Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Only played once, and by request from me LOL Tim Brown played it Yes, I can only remember hearing it once
Eamesy Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Only played once, and by request from me LOL Tim Brown played it Janine & Dave, you obviously know how to enjoy yourselves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep on Soulin' Alan
Guest Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Janine & Dave, you obviously know how to enjoy yourselves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep on Soulin' Alan We asked for Black is Black at Fleetwood but the DJ claimed not to know it
Guest hammy Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 I got a text from a mate on NYE saying" I can't fucking believe this - they're playing Ghost in My House at Stoke, I'm off to slit my wrists", told him I didn't believe him and now I have to phone to apologise.... Was it The Fall's version ? Hammy
Simsy Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Yes, I can only remember hearing it once Oh but Karen, haven't you heard, it's massive everywhere
Soulsmith Posted January 4, 2006 Author Posted January 4, 2006 Changed his story now! Somebody wound up Tim telling him that the record had already been played once. Tim apologised, mate heard the apology. Not quite the same is it? Never let facts get in the way of a good story. Good to see the main culprits coming forward though - Dave & Janine.....take a bow. Col. If you need a copy, get down to Alan's shop, apparently he's still selling it as a new release
tone5446 Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 I reckon that over the Christmas/New Year period is a good time to play a few formerly popular, but now deeply uncool tunes - lighten up - you could always dance ironically if it makes you feel better. Happy Noo Year Tony

Tim apologised, mate heard the apology. Not quite the same is it? Never let facts get in the way of a good story. Good to see the main culprits coming forward though - Dave & Janine.....take a bow. we cant take all the glory...well ok we can take 99% cos Tim didnt really want to play it. But 1% must go to him - and why when the first time i went up to say hello was that the first record he showed me? Unless of course he thought i would do a runner with a record..good point and good thinking on his part i spose. what was more shocking is that it seemed like it was only me who was clapping to it. is it so underplayed now that people cant remeber where to clap? and FYI i hadnt heard this out for about 10 years! A good old time record that suited the occaision

Happy Noo Year Tony No problems there, I played Archie Bell - The Soul City Walk amongst others on NYE But RD Taylor......flogging a dead horse mate I think that Janine has a mischievous streak........ Col Dance ironically?........I've only just mastered the 'sardonic' shuffle

Dave Abbott Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 But RD Taylor......flogging a dead horse mate gotta disagree with that Col...havent heard it out for 10 years...not saying i want ot hear it again for a while but certainly not an overplayed oldie
Guest Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 Well I know I enjoyed dancing to it on NYE and so did all the other people who packed the floor to dance to it.......... top tune for a party. Of course I could always blame all this on Roger Stewart since it was him who bought me a bottle of Bolly for Christmas which I in turn drank before going to the do and was pretty wasted all night LOL

Guest Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 And the point behind this post is ? I Think The Point Is Was R Dean Taylor Played Once Or Twice At Stoke HB
SteveM Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 I Think The Point Is Was R Dean Taylor Played Once Or Twice At Stoke HB Yes, very good Mr Blocked, but you know what I mean
BrianB Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Hope we have the same inquest next time a white artist's record is played at a northern soul night........ Might then start to call it No Soul Source? Massive in its day, underplayed now.
Soulsmith Posted January 5, 2006 Author Posted January 5, 2006 And the point behind this post is ? If I have to explain it to you, then you'll never understand it
wendy Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 AS GOD IS MY WITNESS - yes - it was played TWICE - anyone that says otherwise is wrong
Reg Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 The one time I went to Stoke they played records like that and also more than once...they played Tell me it's just a rumour" 3 times...twice with the vocal, once without...This old heart of mine, and God knows how many times they played Ruby Andrews (but I don't think it's allowed to only play Just Lovin you once in a night)... So, although Richard badgers me week in week out to go to Stoke, I've resisted a further visit so far
wendy Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 TB played it - after at least 3 of us saw it in ih box :-) cant think of if played twice though. and i danced and clapped in all the right places - not many others clapped, tihnk i was a lone clapper... Mr Abbott, I spent much of the night clapping along to anything that sounded like a beat..I challenge you to a duel the person with the bloodiest hands at the end of the next nighter wins!
Gene-r Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 (edited) Hope we have the same inquest next time a white artist's record is played at a northern soul night........ Might then start to call it No Soul Source? OK, so wouldn't an inquest be in order for the following, in that case? Detroit Soul - All Of My Life Billy Storm - Please Don't Mention Her Name Seven Souls - I Still Love You (OK, just half an inquest then) Rufus Lumley - I'm Standing Rock Candy - Alone With No Love Lada Edmund Jr. - The Larue The Tempests - Someday .........given more thought, I could go on much longer!!! Guest Netspeaky Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 If you can't play club classics at a NYE do, then the world's coming to be a sad place, it's that one night of the year when every record should be an oldie, and this is from a guy who travels to hear something different on most other nights I go out. No I wasn't at Stoke, but if I had attended oldies would have been what I expected, so no disappointment. I stayed home, watched Jools Holland (Erma) and listen to R2.
Guest waynec Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 i think colins trying to announce hes finally joined the soul police. best not mention the time he cleared the floor with gayle adams then .

I agree, funny, nobody seems to say anything about what is played sunday night at cleethorpes and that is party night with a lot of so called 'club soul' Get a grip people, it was a laugh, fun, remember the thing we all started going out for in the first place ps Wendy, I can honestly only remember hearing it the once
wendy Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 the last hour at Stoke was practically all white soul! at least that's what it sounded. and the second last song of the night was I Dont Wanna Discuss It. Even Little Richard doesnt like that tune, it's awful and there was some Mitch Ryder as well..........
Dave Abbott Posted January 5, 2006 Posted January 5, 2006 Mr Abbott, I spent much of the night clapping along to anything that sounded like a beat..I challenge you to a duel the person with the bloodiest hands at the end of the next nighter wins! Not saying you didnt wendy, but in my area no-one got the clap with r.dean taylor...not talking about other records just this one. As for the duel LOL...no contest - you win
