Roburt Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 (edited) It seems that a new broom has swept in on the 'soul side' of things at this years Vintage Festival (held this year near Kettering on 13/14/15th July). Cost cutting has just been instigated & it seems that the Nolan Porter & Stone Foundation booking for the event has been cancelled ..... not a good sign me thinks. Anyone know what other cost cutting / soul act cancelling has taken place. Edited June 27, 2012 by Roburt

Goldsoul Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 I certainly hope not, I am appearing on Friday the 13th with the Impressions and Sergio Mendes.
Wiggyflat Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 The new untouchables segment has been cancelled as well.
Rob Wigley Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 ¹ Possibly due to moving further from London ? I wouldn't have thought they saved Mega amounts axing Nolan and his band, but possibly an easy target !
Guest MissHongkongfuey Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Just heard that the whole festival is now cancelled. We were doing our Zombie Club event there but apparently it's being re-sheduled for August and will take place at a "festival within a festval"..... whatever that means! :(
Johnmcc Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 ¹ Possibly due to moving further from London ? I wouldn't have thought they saved Mega amounts axing Nolan and his band, but possibly an easy target ! Kettering's only about 10 miles further from London than Goodwood, a previous venue, and faster by train I bet. Just heard that the whole festival is now cancelled. We were doing our Zombie Club event there but apparently it's being re-sheduled for August and will take place at a "festival within a festval"..... whatever that means! :( I wonder if that's because the already established retro/vintage "The Way We Were" Festival is on that weekend (July 13 - 15th) just 2 miles away at Wicksteed Park Kettering, one hell of a clash! 1
Ian Dewhirst Posted June 29, 2012 Posted June 29, 2012 Yep, I don't envy being in any festival organisers shoes this summer. It's the perfect storm what with the terrible weather, the Olympics and the general economic malaise etc, etc..... However, luckily Wayne had a back-up plan so Vintage 2012 will now be relocating to the Wilderness Festival 10-12th August @ Cornbury Park, Oxfordshire:- https://www.wildernessfestival.com/ Vintage 2012 will fit in here beautifully and hopefully we'll all get a break with the weather by then. Wayne is in the process of re-organising everything and will make announcements in due course. Out of all the festivals Vintage is the one which is closest to our collective hearts so everybody's support will be much appreciated. You won't find a Soul Casino venue at any other festival this summer! Ian D 2

I think the Vintage corner of Wilderness will be a curiosity at that festival but pretty far from a perfect fit. Most of the stuff I really wanted to see has gone and although there is some interesting stuff at Wilderness, the likes of Spiritualized and Temper Trap will be a poor substitute for Sergio Mendes and Alice Russell. Refunds are the order of the day for a bunch of us, including the couple who are coming from Germany to get married and were going to start their honeymoon at Vintage.
Maark Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 ¹ Possibly due to moving further from London ? I wouldn't have thought they saved Mega amounts axing Nolan and his band, but possibly an easy target ! I think Vintage failed in London, hence moving back to a more 'festival' style footing like VAG. Boughton would have been fantastic venue but I fear we'll never know now. 1

Hi Maark heard it was Fab last year and had an eye on it to go.... shifts / work permitting..... but as Ian says there's an awful lot on in London this "Summer" (if it ever stops raining) and for myself it would really depend on the weather if I wanted to attend .. can't hack cold muddy fields.. or freezing cold apartments come to that either ! hope it all goes well on the re-arranged date. Chalky Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Who cares, not me support Ady at the 100 Club or Chris at Radcliffe. Nolan Porter appearing at both. 3

Godzilla Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I'm sure there are lots of people who care when events get cancelled. Exactly Mark - like me for instance. I was looking forward to seeing Nolan Porter but it wasn't the Nolan Porter show. There was a lot of other stuff I was keen to catch - not just music either. It's a real shame that the Hemingways appear to have over-reached themselves with the festival. 1
Chalky Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I'm sure there are lots of people who care when events get cancelled. I'm sure there is but they obviously didn't do the homework with this one did they. 2
Ady Croasdell Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Of course Vintage refugees will be more than welcome at the 100 Club gig this Saturday but be early as it'll be a packer and Nolan will be on stage at 11pm so people can catch their last tubes home or stay on and dance to the best of Northern from me Mick H and Roger Stewart. This had been a 6TS marketing department statement of intent, 2
