Pomonkey Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Have noticed a fair few on this label cropping up on sales lists over recent times, did wonder if someone had found a batch? One have seen most is LC Steels version of Losing Boy
Dylan Posted June 26, 2012 Author Posted June 26, 2012 Have noticed a fair few on this label cropping up on sales lists over recent times, did wonder if someone had found a batch? One have seen most is LC Steels version of Losing Boy yes there does seem to be quite a bit cropping up for sale now. Thats partly why I started this thread to see what people have been picking up.

Dylan Posted June 26, 2012 Author Posted June 26, 2012 There are two issues of the George H. Franklin 45 with different flipsides. Any additions to the below? FACES 3-10 - (1974) - L.C. Guest JohanT Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 FACES 2013 - (1976) - Speck and the G.H. Outlaw Gang - I Wonder About Myself / Hell Girl
Guest Dave Turner Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 (edited) I'm fairly sure it plays the same song just a different title. Dylan, correct mate. Threw me when I first heard the the supposed "Someone Will Take Over" John Ridley has a page on Franklin which has the titles of (missing above) Faces 2018 in the discog https://www.sirshambl...nklin/index.php Edited June 26, 2012 by Dave Turner
Sebastian Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 (edited) Thanks for the info everyone, I have amended the discography above. Edited June 26, 2012 by Sebastian
boba Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 FACES 2013 - (1976) - Speck and the G.H. Outlaw Gang - I Wonder About Myself / Hell Girl in my experience, this has been the most common title on the label that I've seen
Dave Thorley Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 (edited) I met the label owner a couple of years ago. The guy worked for Stan at Stan's Record Distribution in Shriveport, as well as running this label. One reason the 45's have stayed scarce is that when Stan went bankrupt, everything in the warehouse was sized including his stock of the label. To his best knowledge these were distroyed/dumped. He had a few of each at his home, which he sold to me. Although Bob says he's seen Speck And The G.H. Outlaw Gang most, it was the smallest pressing run at only 500, so infact the rarest.. The first two releases were also small pressing runs at no more than a 1000, the others saw runs of over 1000. Here is to my best knowledge the label listing. The Label also had a great gospel sister label called Memorial, which had 45 & LP releases FACES 3-10 - (1974) - L.C. Steels - Losin' Boy / Pretty Black Woman FACES 3-11 - (1974) - Ray Quarles - It's Gonna Be All Over / Ain't Love Good When It Rains FACES 2012 - Al Hill - Big marie/Try to be a man FACES 2013 - (1976) - Speck And The G.H. I Want You Baby Cord X-314/Cord X-315 - (1978) - Sam Benson - Disco do you believe in disco/Stay with me (Until the morning comes) PS although I did get a few of each from him, but just to quell those that want to, like to spread rumours. No I didn't get hundreds of each. I feel having spoken to the label owner and hearing his story, that this will always remain a label that is hard to find. Lastly for such a small label it's a killer, with hardly a bad release. Edited June 27, 2012 by Dave Thorley
boba Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 PS although I did get a few of each from him, but just to quell those that want to, like to spread rumours. it seems like no matter what evidence you present to the contrary, people will still talk and say someone has quantity on a 45. even if you have 2 trashed copies that you've sold, somehow you have a box.

I think at times we can get spoilt if a certain title is around in a reasonable quantity from same seller for a while. They need to get into collections and sell again as single pieces for price to get back to normal and demand to increase again.

Well the few I have, have all but gone, so maybe a long time B4 some are seen again. As many have said this is a fantastic little label with hardly a bad release. Little was know about it right up until a couple of years ago, John on his site has done a great job giving a little background on some of the artists, but many are still little know. I have more recently spoken to the label owner about looking out masters to see if there are any unreleased things

I have to agree with Dave on this one. I guess it may be a different situation if digging in the US, but judging on how many copies that has been around own ebay the last years of some of the other titles compared to one copy of Speck (at least according to popsike) it does seem to have been a limited press for sure!

Thanks.

Sebastian Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 Here's one missing from the discography. Same label, different look: https://collectorsfre...id=120873371156 GREAT STUFF! I have added it to the discography above. It also throws up the question if cat# 3-2 through to 3-9 exists?
Weingarden Posted July 7, 2012 Posted July 7, 2012 I'd had an acetate of this for years and never knew what it was and assumed it never came out. Was quite surprised to find it existed. I'd guessed right at the title ("The Bullet") but had been calling the artist the M.I.A.'s. Drum break on my acetate is much louder and better!
Dave Thorley Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 (edited) Given the last few posts, here is the revised listing with a big question mark over 3-2 to 3-9. I'll ring to try and find out.
