Northern Soul Uk Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 (edited) I have read that 'The Larks - Grooving at the gogo' was recorded for the 'Harthon' record label, but released on the 'Tower' label. Was there any actually released on 'Harthon'? Reason I ask is I have just bought a cheapie on 'Harthon', will it be a bootleg? Not bothered if it is like, but just wondered. Thanks. The Yank Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 (edited) It looks like a boot- Harthon release #'s were in the 100's. This might be a 70's release like the Body Motions "Puttin' You On" / "False Alarm" which has release # of 103074 . Edited June 26, 2012 by the yank 1
Harry Crosby Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 (edited) I would swear that's a boot- Harthon release #'s were in the 100's. This might be a 70's release like the Body Motions "Puttin' You On" / "False Alarm" which has release # of 103074 . Legit 70`s release, not a boot Edited June 26, 2012 by HARRY CROSBY 1
Guest Paul Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 Hello, As far as I know it was a legitimate 1974 reissue, via Weldon McDougal. The instrumental flip side was previously unissued until then. Paul

Sebastian Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 This might be a 70's release like the Body Motions "Puttin' You On" / "False Alarm" which has release # of 103074 . Yes, both the Larks and Body Motions 45s are from 1974. The cat#'s are the dates of when the 45 was pressed or mastered and should be read like this: HARTHON 102474 - Larks - Groovin At The Gogo HARTHON 103074 - Body Motions - Puttin' You On 102474 = 10/24/74 = 24th of October 1974 103074 = 10/30/74 = 30th of October 1974
Northern Soul Uk Posted June 26, 2012 Author Posted June 26, 2012 Excellent news! Well I paid £4 for it, so at least it's not a boot and pleased it's a legit release. Thank you

Paul That's right. All those with the plain label design and red-orange or orange colouring were legit '70s re-issues by Weldon. Some of them had never been issued before. The originals of the ones that had been issued, have the Harthon logo on the label.
Chris L Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Excellent news! Well I paid £4 for it, so at least it's not a boot and pleased it's a legit release. Thank you Try and get the other one on Tower - Another Chance b/w Rain. The former a dreamy mid tempo delight the B side wonderful ballad all done by that Philly genius Tommy Bell, you should be able pick one up for a tenner in today's market. They did a couple on Tower too, well worth having one "It's unbelievable" is a re-recording of their earlier release on Sheryl. Good luck 1

Northern Soul Uk Posted July 2, 2012 Author Posted July 2, 2012 Got it through today and it looks like it's never been played, really nice and well chuffed for £4. I will look into the other releases on 'Tower' too, thank you all for the advice.

Keithg Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 I also have a copy of The Larks - Groovin' at the Go Go on Harthon, pleased to find this forum and to find that it is a legitimate release from 1974 and not a 'boot' Mine has 102474-D And Virtue Studios etched in the runout ....anyone confirm mine to be legitimate too ? photos attached..
Guest Carl Dixon Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Don't forget the squeaky kick drum on 'Groovin at the go go'. The pedal squeaked and on a 45 not so noticeable :-)
