Just seen one for sale on Ebay and was wondering ,

was this out before Chuck Jackson , was Chuck Jackson a manufactured release just for the scene , was it yet another manufactured northern record or was it a genuine release that was picked up through the normal channels

I remember both being very big at the Casino in about 1975 and they used to get played a lot in the Beachcomber in the mornings :g: :g:

Spooky and Sue was also a big East Coast hit at Cleethorpes Andy. I seem to recall that S and S was first but I really don't know the detail. It may well have been a spin for Ian Dewhirst - but I can't remember that either!

That's absolutely correct, people were begging for the Moments to be issued as a 45, but they never released it.

I didn't even know of this version - just looked and it does appear that this is the original version.

Same backing track. Best version - I think so anyway.

You could be right Pete. Always preferred Chuck Jackson to Spooky and Sue - probably because I have the CJ version on LP and used to play that. Now we have the moments take too!

Bit 70's esque for you isn't it mate?

As already stated the Spooky & sue was The East coast fave but think that this and Chuck were both1975 releases. However they are both eclipsed by the silky smooth Moments LP only original version

No I liked all that stuff at the time mate. And still do. Did you not hear that podcast I did the other week, old favourites from that period..

These records were all spun on the Northern Soul scene, mainly between 1975 and

77, and the interesting thing is that back then, I didn't separate these from

the 60's tunes, it was all Northern Soul. Somewhere along the way, lines became

drawn and suddenly we had Modern Soul and much later, Crossover, but these

uptempo 70's dancers will always have strong connections to some great days on

the Northern Soul scene. I was never a Blackpool Mecca attendee but every one

of these tracks was played at Wigan and most at Cleethorpes and probably places

like The Ritz too. Anyway, great memories and to my surprise, one of the most

enjoyable podcasts I've ever done!

I did see your podcast Pete - pretty sure I downloaded it.

I was minded at the time to post up that i'd nearly spat me cornflakes out when I saw the play list and that it was from you! Will Collins is probably the latest (time wise) discovery/play on the podcast - very soulful. A Sir Dickie spin I think?

Good 'cos I hate the Spooky & Sue version LOL. She's actually off key throughout the record. The Moments original for me every time - one of the truly great early Modern Soul anthems in my opinion......

it was a tragedy the Moments never released this on 45 as it could have a been a hit for them methinks. It was very popular at the Casino on the good old days
