I don't know how he does it.

You Just Don't Know

Just occasionally, a record collecting moment makes your heart race, your palms perspire, leaving you breathless.

For me it's always when I encounter a Northern Soul trophy in unimaginable condition. Not only is this record in any condition a NS prize most will never own in their lifetime but this copy is MINT!

Astonishing truly flawless copy of Los Angeles undisputed Queen of independent soul RAREST 45!

Northern Soul foraging does not get any better than this!

Sorry, this item has already been won!

The winning bid was £ 2,614.00

But if anyone who was outbid wants a copy please get in touch with me. Thanks.

so not not a blatant sales ad then

i know it was a 2k record once but the last couple ive seen were only around the 1k mark..even john must be surprised at the outcome even tho its still a rare 45.......not the first copy ive seen to be put up since the auction finished either

Actually it is a blatant sales ad in the Look At Your Box section.

Not that it bothers me.

But if it were just about the price of the record, you wouldn't be asking for offers on another copy...

Maybe he was just tired - hence the yawn. It is a Friday and we've all had a long hard week.

Have a good weekend folks!

All the best,

Len :D

Too many examples to mention ..it happens and will continue to happen ..no point griping about it ..as was discussed previously ,its not Johns fault he has the midas touch ..thus meaning ,he isnt the one bidding and they aint set sale ..all start at a £1 with no reserve .

We just have to accept that a lot of people have too much money to bother shopping around for a cheaper copy and prefer to shop at a trusted high street shop

Never bothers me to be honest ...probably more amazed at how some top tunes like HENRY BROOKS -GREATEST DEBT TO MY MOTHER ,go for way less than i expected

P.s the way i read the original post did come across as a sale ??

Len he was yawning because of the "I don't know how he does it" comment.

Paul works for JM. Or if he doesn't work for him, he helps him out.

Arrr, I getcha - meaning the prices John's auction reach may have been mentioned before

Cheers,

Len.

P.s - I don't think it was a sly comment though, it was just a 'wow' comment. Is it really a crime letting people know you have a record for sale like this?

I paid approx £900 for my copy about three years ago. Though my copy is not flawless as Manships was described. There hasn't been many on ebay since I bought my copy, perhaps 3. Though the casual looker probably thinks there has been more because a couple of copies kept being listed a number of times at a buy it now price before being sold as an auction. Popsike has 2 listed. I personally think its a fantastic record and love the hammond backing. Anyway, I doubt that Manship would have been surprised at how much it went for as it sold below his own book price of £3000.

When you say "we" who do you mean? "We" all managed perfectly well before the price guides came out, in fact some of us with "knowledge" made a great living

I'd prefer it if they didn't exist but I like to read them as well. Or rather I did when I was actually interested...

Yes Dave I was happy with the price I paid and wouldnt have touched it at last Weds price. Though I thought Manships guide was based on prices he had achieved in the past, so had he or others sold one before for 3K?

Pete, if Mike or any of the mods think that I'm sure they will move the thread and give me a bollocking.

On the record. It takes at least 2 people to get to the end price of an auction. I just want to know who the other one was.

When the bidding is going on, it's possible to see the ID's I think

Posted

john sold one for 3k when it was a 3 or 4 known copy record i`m sure

So how many copies do people estimate are known? Manships Miliion Dollar Rare Soul book has it listed as "maybe less than ten".

Yes but they have silly made up names like Quinvy. :D

And he's banned me from using his site.

He spat the dummy out over some 45's he was auctioning for me. I have tried to bury the hatchet on several occasions but to no avail.

Quinvy you need to be VERY CLEAR on what your inferring in this thread, if you are suggesting the second bidder is a "shill" bid say so, and I will take the appropriate legal action not only against you but also against the moderators of this site who seem to consider libellous comment fair game.

The second bidder is a well respected and well known collector who is a member on here ...winner bidder was a Japanese collector. I really don't want to get involved in justifying anything about my business, but lets make it clear to the moderators and yourself that every bid made is logged to the very second with id and real bidders name which is shall gladly produce in court.

I feel sad that what should have been an oasis for discussing our hobby has become a stop off for spiteful, vindictive comment.

Having spat my dummy out, would that be referring to records I was auctioning for you, that with only days to the ending date you wanted what I consider highly unreasonable reserves, which had wasted our time because I believed those reserves coil not be met.

So I removed your auction items....is that spitting my dummy out?

Any criticism is ok by me, people disliking what I do fair, people disliking me is fair. But to question the integrity and honesty of my business I will take legal action without warning.

And the moderators may think about there position and responsibility on this fragrant use of insinuations also, not only against be all the people who have stopped using this site, because of the attitudes of certain individuals on it.

John Manship

suggest you go and wise up on the legal side as i dont take these sort of half baked legal threats lightly

if you got a problem with ANY post you need to inform the site

we do not in a postion to make calls on what is true or not true

go and read the terms of use

it is up to you to inform us if you find any comment or post out of order and as always we then look at it then

and if going to continuing making these half baked schoolboy legal threats then as said I seriously suggest that you do start looking up the legal side of defamation etc

as it does work both ways
