First Ever Release On Motown Records Miracles Bad Girl G1

Recommended Posts

I've had one of these, unfortunately mine was in as bad shape as this.

But what a piece of history, the first (I think) record ever put out by Berry & Smokey cat number G1 (probably for Gordy I'd say) in 1959.

Manship has this down as about £400 in one of my guides, that'll be for a minter, not trashed like this & mine was.

Just wondering, what was the lawsuit about that the seller describes?

The lawsuit was probs coz Berry Gordy had leased "Bad Girl" to Chess for distribution, and they didn't like him pressing it up for local distribution in Detroit?

Ah right, that'd make sense.

Wonder if Leonard Chess was personally involved in that?

You cant keep a good man down for long though, I bet Berry never forgot about that.
