The Worst Floor Filler?

Don't stop me...I'm on a roll.

In my humblest of opinion there are 2 records that over the last couple of years have gained reputations under different banners.

Firstly in the RARE category, LOVE SLAVE-THE ANTELLECS and in the HYPED cat. SISTER JAMES-NINO TEMPO.

Neither one ever pulls many onto the floor and both are tricky to dance to. Any others?

I see the Antellects get some stick on here but whenever I hear this played I see a full floor usually  Aadmittedly it's not the best record ever played on the scene but it's far form the worst...IMHO. Now Stister James I'm in complete agreement with you Kev, complete and utter shite...again IMO :shhh: I'd also put Eddie Bishop Call Me up there with it too.

Agreed :shhh: Good dancer imo - a little uptempo.

Thought Eddie Bishop was just a great oldie. Don't hear it played out much these days though. Dunno about the north, but gonna put that right next year, eh Chalks :D:D

Hear EB at practically every venue that plays oldies. Heard two or three times this weekend. You won't hear it at Lifeline though Ian :shhh:

Every copy (IMHO :D ) should be taken, along with Dean Barlow, up two flights, go along to the third window from the right, open it and throw the lot out the f***** :shhh::thumbsup:

Lifeline/Soultown and Togetherness agreeing beautifullybiggrin.gif

Ivy Jo - I can feel the pain. A brilliant piece of Detroit magic and everybody says they love it but you could play a game of 5 a side in the space left on the floor whenever it's played.

Regards

Warren Boogaloo

I AGREE. AWESOME,BRILLIANT DETROIT. BUT SHOULD ONLY BE PLAYED IN THE PRIVACY OF YOUR OWN HOME. SHOULD BE SAVOURED. (or at a venue with no dance floor, don`t laugh-I`ve done a spot at a venue with no dance floor.)

I love Antallects, but then I always seem to prefer the quirkier northern tracks though, which are always the ones that divide opinion. IT seemed to go down well at Lifeline.

Eddie Bishop gets my vote too. Shite Kenny G version of an already cheesy track, just what the doctor ordered  .

While I'm here, this new thread format's a bit crap, it's a right hassle to read all the posts now

Antellects is a great track IMO. As for the worst floorfiller, it would have to be Richard Berry. Always gets people dancing but I cringe when I hear it! Bow bu bu bow, bubba bow babowbabow AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH! Shoot me....now.

I like it...if you make the Morecambe rally (I assume from your avatar...) you'll be sick of it by the end of the weekend

If they were played back to back, I think I'd stay out on the floor though.

Ps, I've even got a suitcase full of kisses too! :shhh:

 from day's gone bye "The Flasher - Mistrua" - "Papa Oh Mow Mow - Sharonettes" & "Cochise - Paul Humphrey"

JB

[ well The Flasher was OK ....Where did the name Mistrua come from Kev ???? ]

The Sharonettes was the biggest tune to bounce the Casino dance floor, but no one will own up to the fact for good REASON. No disagreeing I have tapes from 73 through to the Close, and the hand clapping stomping drowns out the track every time it was played, like no other, believe me.

chalky,

have you not noticed that all RARE great records: the "don't own's" & "will never own" always give them stick... once they got the record, it's the very best record in the world.... Sister James with the Antellects in the same paragraph...words fail me

Chalky I collect RARE records but I have to disagree I don't like Antellects, and RARE don't make it a good record either, although if it's RARE and good all the better.

Who said rare makes it a good record? I hear many records played cause of the rarity rather than the quality. I push the cheaper underplayed as much as anyone.

Neither did I say the Antellects is good,. I said it's far from the worst record on the scene and cannot understand why it gets so much stick when you consider some of the dross played.

If one came along cheap I take it you wouldn't be interested

I would take it to move on, it's not my cup of tea, but I sure could do a good trade on it. I wasn't actually having a go at you over if it's rare it's good, it was just a throw away comment to make a point about rare records.

from days gone bye "elusive" babe ruth, from last week "hip teens" frank popp

both excellent records but deffo not "northern" or "soul" but pop alongside style council etc

another one , in the 80,s a mate asked me for a copy of roy hamilton crackin up as it appeared to be a big revived tune, i offered to swap for any big record at the time i didnt know, and he gave me a "micky mouse concerto" ( i think), thinking it was a wind up i waited for him to own up, only to go out and see loads of people on the floor to it, not heard the record for years but it was bad

Vanguards which one?

Good Times is superb...overplayed maybe but pure class, great vocals.

never been really overly keen on it myself, got a couple of there other ones quite like them, dont think they would ever be ones for the 'dance floor' though.

The Sharonettes was the biggest tune to bounce the Casino dance floor, and the hand clapping .

I find that hard to belive for " Papa Oh Mow Mow " especially if you listen to it now, But I was there from 73, So I know it to be true.... But the Instrumental of The Sharonettes version of "Going To A Go Go" now that was Good, & Still sounds good....Don't forget @ Wigan they Clapped to anything, Maybe it was to make an average tune sound better.... I remember when Billy Butler was on live @ Wigan there was Hand Clapping through most of his performance, I must admit most of it was Slow Handclapping, because he was below average....
