Davidbrls Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gmxggs77-oM I wonder if anybody can give me come pieces of info about this record. For the record, this song is said to exist only on a 33rpm, isn't it? this is just what I've heard about this..I was wondering if it'd ever been issued on 45 too. I hope so..
Agentsmith Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 lp only and its les mccann ( oops!) same guy responsible for river deep, mountain high on mercury... strange little girl - fine crossover tune!
Mike Lofthouse Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 .I was wondering if it'd ever been issued on 45 too. I hope so.. Don't worry, it sounds perfectly OK on 33 (LP) and as a bonus, has some other tunes too! It is not a bad thing to be LP only. 1
Agentsmith Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 wooosh!...well done swifty gettin that clip up and i didnt realise the other tune was on it as well....WE ARE THE MODS!!! 1
Guest JIM BARRY Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 played this at our local do in manchester many moons ago, and dave godin came over to the decks to see what it was......what a tune.
Guest aintgotit Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Was it covered up Jim,remember it being played quite a bit at niters ten or so years ago. it being played at someones house after a bank holiday alldayer at the cricketers in Hindley.Thought he,d pulled it out of a singles box.
Guest JIM BARRY Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 not to my knowledge, the time is right roughly 10 years ago....it had just been discovered when i managed to get the album, carl willingham was playing it also at the same time as me, which tells me it was not covered up.
Guest vinceoneill Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Hi, I have a copy on a white labelled 45 RPM with " Little Girl" - Corey Glover on the otherside
Davidbrls Posted June 3, 2012 Author Posted June 3, 2012 I asked it because a couple of doubts about the 45 existence came up after seeing a 45 copy (some kind of bootleg me thinks; just the fact that this particular issue had no proper label says it all) being sold on ebay...https://www.popsike.com/Les-McCANN-Little-Girl-7-NORTHERN-SOUL-Mod-Jazz-HEAR/360080558957.html here's the link...it's some knid of bootleg/private issue, innit?
Davidbrls Posted June 3, 2012 Author Posted June 3, 2012 some kind* too quick typing makes me sound dyslexic me thinks hahah

Guest vinceoneill Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Evening Jim, I thought it was a boot & originally bought the record for Corey Glover, which is a cd only track. As I'm a vinyl head, I played the other side & what a track.

As I'm a vinyl head, I played the other side & what a track. i have corey glover as a facebook friend, he is still gigging and putting records out....little girl was first played at allbrighton circa 2000..and went on to be massive..apparantly corey appeared in the film platoon.
sepia Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 (edited) knew it was lp only. for a minute though i thought it was on 45. i have an old sales tape, maybe from 15 years ago.was from a david/dave (somebody).it was all 45s sales & on the list was sad little girl but he had mercury as the label.it passed me by @ the time.a few years later i got the lp(taste changes). i forgot about the tape till a few years ago & checked it & still said sad little girl/mercury,lol. if did put lp on tape by mistake,id a thought hed put les plays the hits as titlle & why put sad little girl/mercury.maybe just got mixed up a bit. got me going for a while thinking it was on a 45. i just put it down to a total mistake???. Kris Holmes Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 ha ha at McGann. It's actually a really good LP, the original version of "Compared To What", a nice version of "Sunny" which is on Mercury 45 that I play out from time to time. Worth the $10-$15 it will cost you.

Kris Holmes Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 lp value whilst we're at it please? LP will cost you all of $10, the Sunny/River Deep 45 is a $5 record.
Chas Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 York main man Ronnie Pedley had that album first and was probably first to air it at a venue, maybe a little longer than 10 years back.It quickly went massive and the clamour to find the album began, just as it did with Jimmy Cobb...but thats another story.

Chris Anderton Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Just put a Les McCann LP on my site tonight if anyone is interested. www.midastouchsoul.co.uk Both big Albrighton tunes back in the day, I always feel that both tracks did not reach their full potential because they were not on a 45....I mean Cory Glover is as good as Soul Bros Inc "Pyramid" aint it! I could`nt tell you who played them both first at Albrighton. We pretty much shared the tunes there, no politics.....just good records (or Cds!)!!! Chris 1
Mick Sway Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Try "Les Skate" , often overlooked from the LP. Driving piano instrumental in the vein of "call me". 15 - 20 years ago the LP was much sought after, then E-bay came along.
