Posted June 3, 201212 yr Just got a message from a guy in the U.S.A. saying a record I sent him was "shattered" when he received it. I have NEVER had a record broken in the post, I use standard "envelope" mailers with two stiffener boards. I have asked him to returm it. Where do I stand, if it was indeed damaged in the post. Kegsy I have had plenty of records broken, often specifically mailed in those "envelope" mailers with the non-existent rigidity of the specific filler pads people use. I wouldn't use one of those to mail a mile away from me, much less overseas. Whenever I get a broken record though I'll send a photo of it. Unfortunately for you, paypal will side with the buyer if the buyer opens up a claim. You probably have to write it off as a loss now. If I were the seller I would ask for a photo and then refund the person's money, as at least in that case the buyer has the perception of you as a helpful seller. Either way they're getting their money back.
June 4, 201212 yr Better to insure the package isn't it ?, don't think its much, depending on the items value of course.
June 4, 201212 yr How does this stand with the Post Office recorded are insured,i always send mine this way due to some saying they havent recieved them..,but dont post overseas.Are they insured for breakages or just lost.If it were me i,d want the record back.
June 4, 201212 yr You won 't be able to claim for a broken package via Royal Mail unless sent tracked insured delivery. They will also require documentary evidence before even considering honouring your losses. Just factor it in to your sales as you get one every so often these days unfortunately mishandled. Would deffo ask buyer for photo evidence just in case though
June 4, 201212 yr Touch wood, but in my time in posting after selling on ebay, I havn't had one yet arrived broken. I just send them armoured, normally with 4 pieces of card in the package. But if it did ever happen, I would ask the buyer to email me a photo of the broken record, and just bite the bullet :-(

I buy a lot of records though. My postal carrier is very professional and she isn't the person who broke them. The best way to avoid broken packages is to pack well, not to purchase a specific service.
