Dave West Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 I'm looking for a really good 200 box. The ones I already have are the aluminium ones with shitty locks etc. Seen the Swan Flight ones with facility for padlock. Are these any good, do you know any better. Cheers Dave

Cheers Dave Swan flight are good yes. I would advise that whatever make you decide on (Blacka are another good maker) be sure that the handle position is right. Far too many boxes when held by the handle have the records stacked upon one another. I suspect you current 200 count box is an example of this. 1

Chalky Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 I had a 200 box made to measure by swanflight. I wanted a single row 200 count but they didn't do one, only 100 count but when I spoke to them they were more than helpful and more than happy to make a 200 one for me.
Dave West Posted May 31, 2012 Author Posted May 31, 2012 Anyone tell me how the Blacka one locks. Is it internal lock or padlock style. Had a few probs with internal locks before. Dave

The 100 count ones hold the records upright (on their edge if you like) as they should but the handle goes across the lid rather than along its length which would be much more ergonomic. I moved the one on my small sales box the 'right' way.

Dave West Posted May 31, 2012 Author Posted May 31, 2012 sorry but I'm a bit of a thicko, is it padlock locked or not Dave
Bigsoulman Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 sorry but I'm a bit of a thicko, is it padlock locked or not Dave Yes it has, I have one and sturdy just isn't the word BUT they are pretty heavy to lug about long distances in my opinion. Lenny
Benji Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Black Adda cases are pretty good too. And much lighter than any alloy flight cases. I use a 200 count 2 row box for more than 15 years now w/out any problems. Records sit upright, easy to carry and can be padlock locked.
Soulman Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 The best you'll get are handmade by Howard Castle of Castle Hardcases. Made to measure, flighted or not, your choice of lock. Lined and cornered for minmal damage... and not dear. He's in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire (38 Upper George Street) Tel: 01924 412316 Best Steve
Swifty Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 I know this is probably a stupid question but what does 'Flighted' mean ? Cheers Swifty
soulsalmon Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Can highly recommend the blakka boxes, bomb proof, plus made to your spec,i have d-rings added to mine so i can attach a shoulder strap for ease of carrying (partially disabled )
Soulman Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 I know this is probably a stupid question but what does 'Flighted' mean ? Cheers Swifty Flighted means that strips of angled metal (aluminium normally) are secured to all the joints on the carcass. All faces are covered in an aluminium sheet and on all the corners have protectors added. Steve

Chalky Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 If I get a new 45 box it will be one of those Magma type ones on a trolley, getting too old to carry one around, me arms were dropping off by the time I got to the venue in Skeggy from the hotel other month 2
Ian Seaman Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 are you going to Brid Dave ??, there is a guy selling them there that take a good sized padlock, i bought one 3 years ago and it,s good, made of thick wood and covered , in various colours too. I have about 14 record boxes, all different makes and styles and to be honest most of them are crap, most expensive one i got is a 5 star british made stucco flight case that won't take locks !! cost me £90 from HTFR !! Best one i have is an old blue plastic one that cost £11 and holds 130, has a great lock and is light ! see you there mate Ian.
