Ringleader Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 I have a copy of Freda Payne - Band of gold - Invictus 533 ISSUE to sell and I wondered what it is worth? This is the version that was withdrawn. I can see DEMOs on Popsike but no ISSUES I know this has been discussed before but I can't find the article Thanks in advance Ian
Pete S Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 I don't think it's really worth much - maybe a tenner, despite RC listing it at £30 - had one about 6 months ago put it in a job lot of 70's UK's. It's finding someone who wants it that's the problem. I MAY BE WRONG!
Ringleader Posted May 31, 2012 Author Posted May 31, 2012 Thanks for that Pete.....I thought that as it wasn't on popsike it must be worth a lot less than the demo Ian
Denbo Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 it must be worth a lot less than the demo Which is odd, as you'd think it would be the other way round. I guess it depends on how many were sold before it was "withdrawn", which I'll admit, I didn't know about. Why was it withdrawn? When you say "version", is this reissue a slightly different version to the original release?
Ringleader Posted May 31, 2012 Author Posted May 31, 2012 I think popsike only shows records that sell for more than $20 and as there are sales showing for the demo and none for the issue i presumed the ones on ebay must have sold for less than $20....unless there have been none at all sold on ebay Its the same mono version as invictus 501 On another thread I think Paul Mooney said it was released at the end of EMI's contract with Invictus and shouldn't have been released
dthedrug Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Hi The UK Invictus Label is complicated to collect and FREDA PAYNE takes up the vast majority of releases, and BAND OF GOLD has 5 variations alone, on the INVICTUS LABEL, And at least 5 more on reissue labels, the gold copy on INFERNO looks great. your record use to sell for big money back in the 1970s, when it was revived by DAVE EVERSON? at the CASINO, Sadly it has lost it's demand, as most collectors have found it easy to get, the rarest is the original DEMO £50 - £100 orig issue £2.50, #533 reissue demo £10, #533 issue £5 my blank 1st issue DEMO £100+ if that help? DAVE

DAVE That blank demo is superb but nobody in their right mind would pay £50 for the original demo - would they? Invictus demos are common.

HI PETE OH YES THEY WOULD, it's seems strange to us, but most of the demos have gone up in price, the BARINO BROS has sold for £50 on a DEMO in the last month. I have a spare if you want it? rarest by far is INV 501 I have only seen 1 other than mine and that's in MICKS RECORD ROOM? I sold the acetate of it last year, that was from MICK, Not sure what the value of this? ask MS. NICE RECORD,
Guest allnightandy Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 I got an American issue with picture sleeve in a soul pack is that worth owt ?
Ringleader Posted May 31, 2012 Author Posted May 31, 2012 Thanks Dave but there are about 6 x INV 533 demos on popsike from about the past year which have sold for between £20 and £69 which is a bit more than the £10 you are suggesting Ian

HOWEVER, my price is te real price any other price is based on demand, if you put anouther £5 on my prices would that be right, remeber the proper value is what a dealer pays not what you pay? have you got the BARINO BROS DEMO? £30 TO YOU SIR, ON OFFER FOR THE NEXT 30 MINS/
Guest Paul Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 I'm not certain why INV 533 was withdrawn in September 1973 but it's most likely that EMI's three year license was due to expire at that time - or it could have already expired because their first Invictus singles had been issued here in August 1970. I have an issue and a promo of the withdrawn INV 533 but I don't know what they're worth. They can be hard to find and then sometimes you can stumble on a copy at a reasonable price. I think I've seen less issues than promos. I've known label collectors pay as much as £50 for some of the more hard to find UK EMI Invictus demos. After more than forty years some aren't so easy to find in mint condition. But prices are more about demand than rarity so the values don't usually reflect the true worth. Paul
