Chalky Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Perfectly reasonable question ? It was Andy and I don't have a problem with it. I is th playground stuff that followed. Best thing with Terry is ignore him.
Chalky Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 you were the one who made an assumption that this record was a second issue........not that it matters but it was real....just because johnny come latelys such as you have never owned such items you assume that no one else has....i,ve given away better tunes than you probably know Not everyone has your knowledge Terry and a forum like thiabout or those who seek to gain your knowledge asking questions and having a debate. Andy asked Rod a question, no need for what you said.
Clarkey Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 My copy is a boot I just wondered how many had been done. If the originals are going for daft money the boots will prob go up a little bit. I just found my 20th anniversary mowtown singles box aswell complete with badge will have a look and see what thats going for nowadays. Does anyone know?
Northern Soul Uk Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 So how many of these original press copies are known of? Guessing not too many if it's fetching those Bucks.
Dave Moore Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Thing is about records like this. They're around...........but they go into collections and stay there. Hence the value. I've never owned one but would love one. I've had the chance on numerous occasions but always thought the condition of the ones on offer was pants. It's mammoth. It's Northern soul all over. It's Detroit, it's by 'unknown' people, it's fookin' brilliant! If I had $4716 hanging around in my vinyl paypal account I'm yer man. unfortunately I have to settle for The Lovelites - Bumpy Road Ahead - Lovelite Issue for today's addition to the shelves. Denny - Bring it September please. Regards, Dave 1
Jim G Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 you are wrong ....because i bought it and i can tell you it wasnt anything near to that price did say i might be wrong!!
Geoff Whitfield Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Just a snippet of info from me on the Tomanogoes, I was in Detroit in the late 80's/ early 90's with my mate Gene Merideth and we were in Ron Murphys shop and Gino Washinton was in there (he told us he owned the Washpan label) he had an ad from a local detroit newspaper offering $100 for a copy of this record, i believe the ad was placed by Ady pierce. He told us he had a 100 of them at his house, we said could we buy some? he said we could, so we went round the same night. we bought 2 at a $100 each, he would not let us see the amount he had, he went into another room and brought the 2 out, i asked for another copy as one of the one's he brought out was pretty rough,he swapped my copy, we spent about an hour there chatting and he told us about his career, but i cannot remember much at all, i sold my copy in the late 90's for i think £350 to Ian Cunliffes' mate(apologies for forgetting you name) cheers Geoff 2

There must be thousands of boots in circulation, it's been done at least twice, one vinyl, one styrene. 1
Guest Brooky Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Ted Massey played this out at Nuneaton Co-Op last Saturday. It sounded fantastic and to see a floor 'going for it' to this tune was great after so many years. (I don't get out much so this was my first hearing for some considerable time at a venue. ) He played Eddie Parker to finish - likewise so rare. No logic to it but it makes a disproportionately positive difference when I know I'm dancing to a £6000 original! Right on Ted Massey!!!!

Chris L Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 overpriced or what,??? https://www.ebay.com/...7#ht_952wt_1044 Looks like my re-issue
Chris L Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 overpriced or what,??? https://www.ebay.com/...7#ht_952wt_1044 From what I see most records are heading downwards pricewise but the "rare few" are actually increasing............
Johnmcc Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 bought this along with ann perry on theoda....in 1982 for £40 the pair and l thought i,d spent a fortune.....good luck to the buyer great tune....and in many many years time.......these rare tunes will fetch such sums that will make ya eyes water....mark my words That would be the second issue though ? With respect, Terry made a valid and relevant post, mentioning date and price. A bit of thought would have surely rendered the reply unnecessary unless it was meant to provoke a terse reply. If so, well done! John
Guest Brooky Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 try explaining that to somebody who isn't involved with the soul scene. ========================================================================= Exactly Dylan................Ted Massey also played 'Double Cookin' (Original Villa I'm sure...although I didn't check!) and predictably filled the floor so is therefore a veritable Northern Soul DJ genius. If another guy plays same title but on Soul Galore he will instantly become a 'complete tit'................sometimes logic is in the eye of the beholder as well as beauty!!! That's why we love it and long live the Soul Police!!!!!.....we're all mad anyway!!! 1

Pete S Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 No logic to it but it makes a disproportionately positive difference when I know I'm dancing to a £6000 original! Why, does it sound different? 2
SOULCENTRAL Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Why, does it sound different? Hi Pete, In football we have goal line technology to prove a point. Did i not hear that somewhere at a northern do they had cameras above the decks to show weather original vinyl was being played. If this is done at many ovo soul events then the punters can make there mind up wether or not to dance to the originals or dance slower to the ones they are not sure about. :D Also whoever thought of doing this could patent the idea and probably make a fortune ( if they are not filthy rich already). ROY

I was told that Dave Evison was trying to put his hand over the camera to stop the audience seeing what he was playing. Now, why would he do that? Julian OVO 2
Quinvy Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 One for sale on this forum now. Get your wallets out guys.

Would you be able to tell if the look-a-like boots are intact a boot from a video camera. Can you tell just peering over the decks whilst it is spinning round? There is an original up for sale on here btw. 1
SOULCENTRAL Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Yes and when a pressing is played, two separate groups form, the ones who don't dance take the p*ss out of those dancing to the pressing, while those dancing just enjoy themselves dancing! Exactly Pete, I thought for the majority of people attending soul events it was all about the music!!!!!!!!!!. Although i would not want this thread to degenerate (again!) into an OVO versus Pressings versus CDs etc, etc. Still an absolutely fantastic classic SOUL tune regardless of what medium it is heard on and fair play to the person who bought the record, i hope they get many hours of pleasure from playing it. HI CHALKS, To be honest i am not that knowledgeable to be able to distinguish between a boot and the original in relation to most vinyl although some are easy to define. Can't understand why many ordinary punters would be that bothered and why the promoter in the camera scenario thought it would make the slightest difference :g: . As you say, who could actually tell ????. ROY
Pete S Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 No, we won't go there again but when someone will only dance to a record if it's an original I have to comment, sorry. No matter who it is saying it

No matter who it is saying it I for one can say that I sat down at a very recent soul do I attended when a dj played a boot! Love this tune btw and wish I could afford a copy Edited June 5, 2012 by Bearsy
Chalky Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Can we leave the boot vs. original out of this topic please unless talking about the Tomangoes. There are umpteen topics to talk about ovo vs. boots.
Chalky Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Think I'm wasting my time and effort at times. Off topic post removed. Stick to the Tomangoes please.
Jim G Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Who played out first? I have memories of Richard searling playing it at the Casino
Steve L Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Who played out first? I have memories of Richard searling playing it at the Casino And when, 73/4??
Chalky Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Where is Ian Dewhirst? Sure he said he had this before Wigan?
Steve G Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Tomangoes always rams the floor, although I think it's over played right now. Like Del Larks, Eddie Parker etc. Great northern oldies but give them a rest for a bit. As for boots Pete, not an oldies dancer really, but always get p*ssed off when I hear a boot being played (on a reasonable sound system it's easy to tell).
Ian Dewhirst Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Where is Ian Dewhirst? Sure he said he had this before Wigan? Not quite Chalky. I definitely got this in the early Wigan era. In fact, unless I'm mistaken, the deal actually took place there. I'm pretty sure Kev was the first one @ Wigan to have it as I'm sure he'll confirm....... Ian D 1
Julianb Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Played at the Mecca and someone on a different thread on here stated it was played at the Torch ( Keith Minshull confirmed this to me about 2 years ago). Remember it at the Mecca but not the Torch. Julian

Ian D Must be thinking of another record then Ian Sure I read it was about around 1970 or just after, certainly before Wigan. Sure someone like Steve Smith will know?

I'd love to take you up on some kind of scientific experiment with that Steve. Some boots are better quality than the originals LOL 1
Steve G Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Was this not one of John Anderson's discoveries? I thought it was which would support the Mecca theory since he was getting stuff from Detroit by the early / mid 70s.
Marc Forrest Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 CAN SOMEONE PLEASE GET THOSE 100 COPIES FROM GINO WASHINGTON ONTO THE MARKET ??!! LOL
Guest gordon russell Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Who played out first? I have memories of Richard searling playing it at the Casino well he seemed to play everything else first........probably march 3rd 1.15 in the morning straight after haiwaii 5-0
