JOE TORQUAY Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Moses Smith Keep On Striving C/w Come On, Let Me Love You It's not that I can't be bothered, but I do feel records of this supreme quality do all the talking for themselves. Click the sound-file, then try and live your life without owning it... ...if you can! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 316.00 Delreys Incorporated Destination Unknown When the legendary Cleethorpes Winter Gardens held their very last event only a few of years back all the original DJ's turned out to pay homage to one of the greatest Northern Soul venues ever, and the promoters by Mary Chapman and Hubby this groundbreaking holiday destination will go down in history as having not one but two All-niters running simultaneously. Who could forget the 1975 Winter-Walk of death from THE PEIR heading south down the North Sea shore for 1/2 a mile to THE WINTER GARDENS. What has erect frozen nipples, blue nose & fingers got to do with Delreys Incorporated? Well, some 30 years or more later at the Re-Union this was the most requested 45 of that day. It was, after all a CLEETHORPES MONSTER... This is the extremely difficult to net - ORIGINAL - in fine clean condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 433.00 Limelighters Don't Leave Me Baby C/w You Don't Love Me No More You are about to hear one extremely special 45. Not only is this vocal-group Northern Soul at it's very finest and most elusive! It sits at the very pinnacle of it' genre, this stamped promo copy is one of only a handful known. For me personally the most exciting 45 we have listed this year so far - but I'm a sucker for vocal-group NS and I adore just hold the serious rarities, especially if they sound this good! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 998.00 Billy Prophet What Can I Do C/w Sad Sam The Big Apple combination of Sidney Barnes, J. l. Jackson & Henry Murray masterminded countless, truly wonderful Soul recordings that went on to sit on the Northern Soul's "Top Table". Before you today is one of the very finest of this trio's these servings. A superbly clean WHITE PROMO copy of a Wigan Casino & Cleethorpes Pier anthem - sporting the so often missing (by a blank side) "SAD SAM". A serious rarity, offering not one but two killer examples of real-deal-proper-Northern-Soul. To old-school NS scholars this listing is a thing of beauty and a last testament to the creativity of that New York threesome. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 483.00
JOE TORQUAY Posted May 30, 2012 Author Posted May 30, 2012 American Poets She Blew A Good Thing Some records are just so well-constructed you never tire of hearing them. I heard this played at The Irish Club, Nottingham all-niter recently; it sounded every note as "fresh" as it did back in 1970 when I first heard it at the legendary "Brit" club. It's classic and a timeless one, so when we discover a copy in blinding flawless condition I feel like it's 1970 and I living my teen-soul-years all over again when I scoured the junk shops, market stalls for a copy of this and most everything the "Brit" spun back in the day. It is 42 years on now, I must admit I've never ever found a copy "junking" nor am i ever likely to. In this condition - impossible! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 95.00 Henry Brooks Mini Skirts C/w Greatest Debt To My Mother Again not sure which side to lead with, but we strongly advise you listen to the full soundfile as Henry Brooks completely changes styles from one side to the other. Topside is RARE New York FUNK screamer in the true tradition of James Brown, Henry shakes it down on a cascade of skillfully plucked Wah-Wah &bass guitars. The man's harsh guttural vocal marries perfectly to this wicked dance production. Flip it over for a total U-Turn as Henry is joined by an uncredited cooing vocal group who somewhat soothe the lead voice as it rides a gentle but highly effective rhythm track the result is Northern Soul Crossover at it's unparalleled BEST! Both sides are right-on-the-money! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 184.00 Impressions Gypsy Woman One of the greatest soul-groups of the last century with their first BritishHMV release from 1961. Curtis Mayfield's genius seeps from every note, as this 45 paths the way for them to become first the MODS darling-group and then Northern Soul icons. Click the sound-file and allow Jerry Butler, Curtis Mayfield, Sam Gooden, Richard Brooks and Arthur Brooks to paint a picture of a dusky-maiden dancing around a campfire. So very classic and so, so tough to acquire in this near perfect condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 43.00 Stormy I Won't Stop To Cry C/w The Devastator I did have to pause for thought, deciding which side to list first. Both are equally enthralling pieces of classy 60s vocal-group Chicago Northern Soul. A double-serving, in the style of NS that eventually ends up rather expensive, as this 45 has never been "around", in fact it has been forever annoyingly elusive - upon clicking the sound-file we think you'll agree a fatter price tag is long overdue. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 363.00

The winning bid was £ 41.00 Edd Henry Your Replacement Is Here C/w Crooked Woman The lure of Detroit Soul is all too strong for most of us. Ed McCoy's iconic label did not make the task of vinyl-abstinence any easier; what with the likes of Bob & Fred, The Grand Prix and of course this double-delight from Ed Henry sporting the simple but seductive design. Click the sound-file to be treated to two equally fine street-generated NSdancers. Topside side provides everything required, full girl-chorus, blaring horns, huge drum rolls, growling vocal all whisked into a stomping back beat.AWESOME. Flip it over and you think it's gonna be a blues-ballad, but Ed Henry fools you by unexpectedly ramping up the rap intro into another racy foot-to-the-floor slab of Northern Soul. Two intimidating sides - one RARE disc. Sorry, this item has already been won! Hey this is a KILLER TUNE, & my type of tune - we can all remember when The Jades - Lucky Fellow - sat in the same price bracket not so long back. Exposure, Exposure, Exposure is the only element missing to prevent this being a MONSTER! The flipside will delight FUNK fans - TWO great sides that need get out more. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 329.00
JOE TORQUAY Posted May 30, 2012 Author Posted May 30, 2012 Johnny Mack I Want To Live Every Day For Your Love C/w Let Them Talk Johnny McArthur with a ridiculously rare Miami slab of Northern Soul backed with tortured Deep Soul experience. Top side is a potent brass activated mid-pace dancer reminiscent of so many Memphis recordings, but many forget that Miami also had a less obvious but burgeoning 60s Soul contingent who crafted some of the very rarest NS 45 known. Flip it over to have your mood completely turned upside down as Johnny McArthur grinds your emotions down with a truly anguished version of the Billy Young standard. Like 'em rare? We can assure you this copy, is our very first in memory. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 59.00 Hockadays Hold On Baby C/w Fairy Tales When Bert Berns & Phil Medley team up the only result is something rather special. This New York vocal-group Northern Soul dancer is just perfect to take over the NS mantle left by the over-exposure Marv Johnson - Come On and Stop - which was perhaps the biggest crowd-pleaser of recent times. This rarity drips with all the same qualities including an irresistible trumpet break! Take a listen in the correct hands this too will be a MONSTER - being a 1000 times the end-potential is rather obvious. PS. Can anyone tell me, is this band the shrapnel from the Parakeets with Charles Hockaday on 2nd. tenor? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 104.00 Betty Harris Soul Perfection incredibly rare 1969 British press, in our experience the least witnessed album in the series. Offering up fully 16 of her very finest New Orleans SANSU recordings and ironiocally NOT issued in the USA until 1980. The soundfile is just a taster of what this awesome album holds - it is as the title suggests this is SOULPERFECTION! We would normally only offer pristine lp's for auction - but this item is a stand-out album, so here's the exact condition. FRONT COVER is unblemished with only an occasional faint laminate vein to indicate handling. BACK COVER has a discreet name and date in biro. Label has a discreet signature also. VINYL a-side has only a few light surface marjks NOT affecting play. b-side vinyl has a light scuff on track 2. "Lonely Hearts" The whole gorgeous thing plays clean and true, the cover is stunning, the music is SOUL PERFECTION! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 62.00

Raresoul45s Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 No one wants it Julian. I offered one for offers last year not one offer, and no interest, its rarity holds it back. Cheers Darren
Chalky Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 No one wants it Julian. I offered one for offers last year not one offer, and no interest, its rarity holds it back. Cheers Darren That is because the scene is full of DJ's with no imagination who dare not take a chance on a record, they have to play a guaranteed floor packer every other DJ is playing in case they lose a booking. It is a f*cking great dancer, better than some of the dross that is masquerading as Northern Soul. What more does a DJ want in a record? If Butch played it and it went massive they would pay five times this for it!!!! 3
Chalky Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Same with the Delrays Inc, not too long ago they could pick that up for £150....now a few Dj's behind it and it is again a big record they will pay through the nose. There is no way on this earth Delrays is worth half what the Limelights is worth. 2
Dylan Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 No one wants it Julian. I offered one for offers last year not one offer, and no interest, its rarity holds it back. Cheers Darren its even been on a Tim Brown millionaires CD so its not as if most people won't know how good it is as well ? would the fact its been on a big selling CD put some people off spending this sort of cash ?

Hope it doesn't clear the dancefloor ( but then again the last time I was behind the wheels of steel, I cleared the floor with William Powell!!!) The SWONS 1
