Reg Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 I ordered a record for my other half from Gemm and it's arrived...with a big crack I've had records come before that aren't the condition they've said but not completely knackered as this is. It was obviously cracked when it was sent or has broken on the way...what's your experience with this kind of thing? I've emailed the seller but I'm not holding my breath. (It isn't an expensive one...just a tenner or so).

Did you purchase direct from the seller or through Gemm???, if it was through Gemm they have a protection scheme whereby they take your money & pass it on to the seller. To check go into your order & they will have a shield (yellow color) if it has this you contact Gemm & they will chase it up for you, if not your at the mercy of the seller, they have feedback so might be worth a mention in any further messages with the seller. Also worth telling Gemm about it, as you said its not too expensive but it should`t matter .......... you still paid for a service. Good luck & i hope this helps . Garv.

It was through Gemm where they don't pass the card details on. I'll see if this chap gets back to me in the next couple of days then , if not, I'll do what you've said. , I'm hoping that he'll be okay as he's got 10 out of 10 on the feedback thingy but you never know. Cheers Garv
Guest Netspeaky Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 As a seller, I always post out well packed and if Uk always recorded or special delivery so that seller is protected. As a purchaser depending on record value I take a chance or get it insured. So I guess what I'm saying is that as the record was under a tennner you took a chance, I'm afraid if it was packed as you would normally expect you have been unlucky, if not packed as you would expect then I think the seller has a certain responsibility.
Codfromderby Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 this may not or may indeed help, ive bought loads of stuff of gemm and most of it has arrived safe and well, however some 45,s have arrived very poorly packed, as in styrene records that cost loads of money posted in an unpacked paper envelopes from ~~~~~ ~~~~~~~ in new york( a well known dealer) that arrived intact!!, to 45,s that have arrived from the u.s that cost next to nothing packed so well that the sas could not get into the package that have arrived broken into pieces.

Cheers Garv Here's my thoughts. If dealer has a 10 out of 10 rating, he isn't going to send out a cracked record. Take it up with the people who broke it, the post office, they must be good it. Col.

Why would you take the chance buying off someone who didn't pack properly? My advice you can always ask the seller to pack well, I certainly do especially on expensive 45's. I always ask for the mailer to be placed in a larger box with padding, never had a problem with this request, after all I've spent good money, I expect the seller to provide a service that keeps me happy. I don't mind paying extra P&P if this required, it makes sense to me, plus insurance if I think it's required. Yes I suppose the postman could always jump on the package, but I think this is highly unlikely.
Reg Posted December 28, 2005 Author Posted December 28, 2005 I emailed the seller to say it was cracked...the packing was the normal kind, a couple of pieces of cardboard. Anyway, he's refunded the money so he obviously deserves his 10/10 rating. It wasn't an expensive record but I'm happy and I'll buy from him again for sure....

Yes I suppose the postman could always jump on the package, but I think this is highly unlikely. i must explain, i have bought loads of stuff through gemm, when i mentioned i have had some expensive records that has arrived poorly packed, i have not in fact payed expensive prices for those records, i was trying to re-inforce the magic of buying stuff from the u.s for a few dollars, that may be either fantastic musically when they arrive un-heard (thats how we all discover new records, and it still happens) or if your in to that type of thing buying 45,s cheap and selling them on, (see my thread on the bobby hutton 45), the dealer i reffered to is just one example of who in my and a few mates experience advertises some top notch stuff (often unknown, or semi known for cheap prices 25$), and if your lucky enough to get it, arrives in not bad but dirty condition and extremely poorly packed, i would have loved to have payed extra for my 45,s to arrive in top notch fully protected condition, but the 45,s dont, and this in my sad mind somehow adds to the magic of buying stuff blind from the usa, or wherever
