Ernie Andrews Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 Is this really fair? Ill probably get blocked now but I dont care its the principle of the thing & Ive sent him a message to say so- Id like others comments! People like myself put bids on records then all of a sudden in the last day or so the record is withdrawn and bids are cancelled - is it fair? I have an interest in one of the records as I dont have it and I collect Compass label and its uk releases. I didnt know how much to offer him on here and I told him just tell me what you want and if its ok fine if not thats life! as Im not sure of price on it as its not the most popular record but it would be nice to have it in the collection. So the Seller advertises on here first - I say I dont know what to offer as hes after offers Next he sends me a message saying this ! Offers invited - if I get a good offer, I'll pull it off the bay - if not, I'll wait till just before it finishes and if it's not looking like it's getting high enough - I'll just pull it anyways...want PROPER prices fro my records here Steve - some of this stuff is extremely rare as ya well know... Is this fair to bidders etc Not a problem if no-one has bid! but bloody frustrating if their are bidders and it gets withdrawn! P.S He hasnt put reserves on them and even advertises the fact as 99p start! Im interested in other views- Is this ok? because if it is maybe I should start doing it!
Kjw Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 Withdrawing items from auction after bids have been placed is totally out of order If the seller wants a certain price for something they should set a reserve
Pete S Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 Dunno - just make him an offer - what it is, Helena Ferguson? £25?
Ernie Andrews Posted May 27, 2012 Author Posted May 27, 2012 (edited) Yes Pete but you know me once I get something in my head I'M a pain in the arse- JUst think it was wrong - advertises on here first so I have a conversation with him trying to find out what he wants - Next thing I know its on Ebay with bids so I dont know what to offer and think its not fair to the people who have put bids on! - If he had turned down my offer(Which I hadnt come a decision on ) & which I wasnt sure of at least I would then ask what ball park figure on here to eliminate if it was too rich for me. Just frustrating on tw0 levels! Edited May 27, 2012 by Ernie Andrews

Just frustrating on tw0 levels! If you don't think it is fair on people who have put bids in already you should refrain form making an offer outside of the ebay auction. And if you still want it, bid on it yourself on ebay - personally I would put snipe in with what i would be happy to pay and hope for the best. If it then got pulled I think you would be justified in complaining but not if you go along with the 'alternative' auction outside of ebay. IMHO. Mike

Mike Mike I didnt even know they were on ebay- I was trying to negotiate on here- It was only when he sent me the message - He will pull it from ebay if the right offer was the first I knew it was on ebay.

I thought the first post the seller put up on here mentioned and included a link to ebay - you included a link to this posting in your original post ? Mike
Ernie Andrews Posted May 27, 2012 Author Posted May 27, 2012 (edited) I thought the first post the seller put up on here mentioned and included a link to ebay - you included a link to this posting in your original post ? Mike Yes mike I put a link in only after he had messaged me stating they were on ebay! I thought it was strage negotiating for a record on here only then to find out they were on ebay- might have been an oversight on my part - will have to check his original sales post! Just checked Mike - No nothing about ebay on his original sales post However Ive checked the times and he lisetd them on ebay before offering here as his Sales post in the ebay section is 50 minutes before the post in the ordinary sales section- Please check! Modernsoulsucks Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 I noticed the Ebay sales last night. I see the seller posted a link to those sales in Ebay/Website section at 12.05pm today, and followed up with a further post at 12.57pm in Sales asking for offers but without a link. In view of points raised I've added a link to the sales on Ebay to that 12.57 post to make it obvious that the sales are on here and Ebay. My general view is that as long as sales are honest and out in the open then it is up to the seller how he markets his 45s. Personally wouldn't have two sales going on of the same stuff at the same time using different outlets as it may result in some confusion. ROD [Forum Moderator]
Ernie Andrews Posted May 28, 2012 Author Posted May 28, 2012 Rod do you think his statement which is in my first post (IN Bold) is acceptable practice and he says he is a professional dealer!
Modernsoulsucks Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 As a punter Steve no I wouldn't want to get involved in such an auction and IMO a set sale would have been the way to go. Ebay often throws up such goings-on. It's not always the seller who withdraws items for auction off his own bat. Plenty of buyers offering money to end auctions early. Think you just have to accept that some people operate differently and as long as no fraud or dishonesty just move on to something else. ROd 1
