Have A Listen To These Clips & Let Me Know

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I have clips from 8 songs below & have been told different things by several different but plausibly reliable sources.

Have a listen & answer the following:

Would you say that these are all the same singer?

If you were told these were two different singers & the first clip is singer A, how would you identify the other 7 clips in terms of As & Bs?

I've been listening the last day or so & don't know what to think anymore, listen to the phrasing, pitching, vibrato, accents etc.

I don't want to say anything more to influence your choices but if you could give me your thoughts it could be helpful.

(of course if you already know the records please don't spoil others analysis)

Thanks

it's a weird situation, I have an artist saying these are all the same singer but this seems to fly in the face of what the records sound like & what other collectors/researchers have said. i don't know whether to believe the artist or my (& seemingly everyone elses) ears.

It sure doesn't sound like the one singer, though it's hard taking into account the different keys and era's that change the style they are sung in and of cause the age of the voice.

Are any of them besidesthe 1st, on Odex?

only the flip of that 45 which is the 4th clip that copies the Aretha Franklin backing.

They are all either Vicki Williams or Vikki Styles and are the collected works of both artists (or maybe just the one artist  ) minus the elusive Vicki Styles 45 on Lynn's. You can hear them all below.

The more I listen, the more I think they are the same person. :g:

Interesting stuff Kris.

Sounds like different artists to me - although I've never had the best ear. A definitive answer would be goood.

maybe vicki styles was a member of the sparks?

I always thought vicki williams was from Chicago, as Morgan Park is middle class Black neighbhorhood on the southwest side of Chicago, right next to Beverly.
