hullsoul Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 I sold it for £40 in the mid 90's...Smithy too cheap at times. Chalks It's sounding better all the time............I said Pete was a nice bloke, now he's a very, very nice bloke Cheers Martyn

hullsoul Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Was told once that The Intros was surprisingly a Russ W spin at the Casino this deffo needs more action Always thought it was a Stafford sound, well you learn something new everyday? Been hearing it a bit more recently. Cheers Martyn
Chalky Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 I've always assumed it was a Wigan spin, or that era. When I played it late 80's early 90's I never heard anyone else play it. Don't hear it too often even now.
Reg Scott Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Gary Brown - Spoiled Child (Brownie) Best Mark White Mark, if you can get another copy of this for 50 squid please shout me Been after a copy for a while.. Best, Greg.
Chalky Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Might be an idea Patto if we stuck to records that are actually worth £50 and under? Just a thought? There's a few over £50 and at least one three figure disc listed and I'm sure we have all got the odd expensive one we got cheap? 1

Patto Posted May 20, 2012 Author Posted May 20, 2012 Might be an idea Patto if we stuck to records that are actually worth £50 and under? Just a thought? There's a few over £50 and at least one three figure disc listed and I'm sure we have all got the odd expensive one we got cheap? The main principle i was after was the £50 or under, uptempo, and underplayed. However prices do fluctuate and lots of records that i have bought recently for £40-£50 are on some big dealers sites for £75 so i'm not going to split hairs about the odd record that could be worth more than the £50 as long as it doesn't get too ridiculous.I am pleased Martyn got a bargain for the intros and have no problem as he didn't realise the going rate for the disc. Also as i have stated before i am delighted the way the thread has gone so far. Some fantastic lists have been submitted with 90% complience to the principles. Its just great we are all talking records and putting our hearts and souls on display and spreading knowlege about brill records that exist outside the limited oldies plays. This to me is the essence of Northern Soul the need to be lifted by something you haven't heard before or have long forgotten about. So no problem from me Chalky just lovin it 3
Ljblanken Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Not sure if these are overplayed over there (I'm not British), but got all these for under 50 bucks... 1 Sandy Brockington - it was you (Bengee) 2 Dee Andrews - stop you're hurting my heart (Tangerine) 3 James Brown - 3 hearts in a tangle (King) 4 Leon Austin - 2 sided love (King) 5 Bunny and Cindy - sure didn't take long (Neptune) 6 William Bell - just as i thought (Stax) 7 Yvonne Carroll - little bit of soap (Challenge) 8 Otis Clay - she's about a mover (Cotillion) 9 Irene Craig - ABCs of love (Fat Fish) 10 Lorna Doone - dangerous town (RCA) 11 Leona Dunn - baby don't play around (Hallmark) 12 Extensions - i want to know (success) 13 Gloria Gaynor - she'll be sorry(Jocida) 14 Betty Harris and Lee Dorsey - love lots of loving (Sansu) 15 Honey Duo Twins - come back baby (Yambo) 1
Douglaschip Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Malibus "I Just cant Stand It" (Duke) ... appears in 3 of the above lists ... and often mentioned in recent times. Surely only a matter of time before this becomes in demand - really do think its a better record than their "Gee Baby I Love You". Just picked up a minty demo for 6.99 bargain!!! great tune by the way

Patto did say a limit of £50 or thereabouts, so a slight liberty with 2 sixty pounders. Here's my second set, same brief, aimed at the upper end of the tempo: Johnny & The Expressions - Boys And Girls Together (Josie WD) The Volumes - You Got It Baby (Inferno) Billy Hambric - Talk To Me Baby (Fury) - £5 gem! Jimmy Lewis - Let Me Know (Minit) Babara Mason - Don't Ever Want To Lose Your Love (Arctic) The Fabulous Dimensions - I Can't Take It Baby (Sapphire) - might be on the up price wise but paid £50 last year Jimmy Holiday - I've Been Done Wrong (Diplomacy WD) Lou Bond - You Shake Me Up (Brainstorm) Nora Lee - You Must Believe Me (Westwood) Vic & The Catalinas - Talking About My Girl (Barclay) Oscar Boyd - When Things Get A Little Better (Hermes) - what a record for a fiver!! Guest davidmcaleer Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Great read this! Good to see, for someone just starting out collecting, that you can still get plenty of decent records without forking out huge amounts for them all!
Guest davidmcaleer Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Thought I'd give this a shot as well, see what I can do with a barely started collection. I know they're not all that underplayed but a decent few tracks in my opinion, tried to get a nice bit of variety in there as much as I could. Don't let him take your love from me - Four Tops (Motown) Stick by me - Ted Taylor (Alarm) They're talking about me - Johnny Bragg (Elbejay) Um um um um um - Major Lance (Okeh) Comin' at you - The Reflections (Golden World) I had a fight with love - Johnnie Taylor (Stax) Livin' for the weekend - The O'Jays (Philly International) The Joker - The Milestones (Black Magic) Wear it on our face - The Dells (Cadet) Baby spread your love on me - Bobby Paris (Capitol) Barefootin' - Robert Parker (Nola) Love her with a feeling - Lowell Fulsom (Big Town) Soul sister, brown sugar - Sam and Dave (Atlantic) Best shot - Lee Mitchell (Full Speed Ahead) Let's wade in the water - Marlena Shaw (Cadet)

I paid double that about 4 months ago Watch the price of these records soar! ...but done in the spirit of things Must admit I had a small handful of that Fenton Robinson, so was happy to move them on between £40 and £20...in fact the final copy went not long after I listed it within this thread even though it has been on my sales pages (plug ) for a while. Am trying to source some more as others have also requested it...have had copies with varying shades of yellow labels, by the way. I agree with other posters, some great tunes listed thus far, that I bet a lot of us also own and cherish...but seldom get played out 1
